The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 123: Ch : Surely it’s not the Same?- Part 1
I dragged Theo all the way back to the restroom for the employees before I let go of his hand.
Theo blinked as he realized that he was no longer serving customers, and his eyes took some time to zone back on my face.
"Kyle-? When did you get back? And... what am I doing here? Was I not serving customers? Sorry, my mind is a mess right now."
Theo told me as he grabbed his head to get rid of the incoming headache he was having.
I did feel bad for him, but I also needed to know what was going on here. Why was Theo acting like he was in a daze?
"Never mind me, Theo. What happened to you? It looked as if you were having a hard time concentrating. Are you alright?"
I asked, and Theo looked taken aback.
"I was... zoned out? Huh-! When did that happen? The last thing I remember is... not much. Maybe you are right."
Theo told me as he slowly came back to himself and walked past me.
"Sorry for the trouble I caused. I will be more careful with the customers’ orders in the future. Now, we should head back out, right?"
Theo told me, and I wanted to tell him that there was no need for him to act so responsibly. He could take a small rest to gather himself.
But the alpha left the restroom before I could call for it.
My instincts told me that something was wrong with Theo. There was something he was struggling with, but he refused to tell me.
Unfortunately, I could not ask him about that because he was already back to work by the time I exited the restroom.
This time, he made a lot fewer mistakes, and his face had a smile as well.
"Kyle, it’s nice to have you back. Theo was really struggling when you were not here, but now that you are, he’s back to himself. That child is really dependent on you. I’m worried for him at this rate."
Emma told me with a sigh as she came to check up on me and Theo.
Her eyes were filled with pity as she looked at Theo, and I felt like I should say something to her.
But I had nothing to say to her because I liked the fact that Theo was dependent on me. I wanted him to be even more dependent on me.
At the same time, I felt like I needed to trust Theo and see what more he has to offer. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
My conflicting feelings made it tough for me to understand my own self.
"Don’t worry too much about things, Kyle. What’s going to happen will happen anyway. What you can do is steel your heart. But it’s not guaranteed to help either."
The beta female told me. She sounded confident, almost as if she could see the future. I felt like she was speaking from experience here.
"After I lost my son, I never thought I would be able to pick myself up again. I told him again and again not to be a hunter and just take over the family business. But he refused to follow me and ended up chewing more than he could bite."
The female continued, not caring anymore that she was telling me something she did not need to.
I felt sorry for her loss, and I recalled how she and Ben had given me her son’s room because he had ’left them’.
Seeing how the room was freshly maintained, their son might not have been gone for too long.
"Did you see his body? Was it... badly damaged? What kind of dungeon did he run off to?"
I asked Emma, now feeling curious.
Seeing how Emma did not seem to be angry or grief-struck at the thought of talking about her son, I decided to push a little bit more.
"He went into a dungeon he called Hell’s Fire. Since he was a fire user and had high fire resistance, he likely thought he would be able to take it. We never heard from him again. It’s been a little more than a year."
The female told me, and I felt curious.
"So... there was no body found?"
I asked Emma, and she shook her head.
"That dungeon was never cleared. The association keeps an eye out on the dungeon, but since it’s near an inactive volcano and is not showing any signs of opening, they are happy to leave it alone. We should not worry about it either."
The female told me, and she seemed to be having a hard time speaking. Her eyes felt a little wet, and I decided to back off.
There was no need for me to feed her sorrow any more than I already had. So I stopped talking about her son.
And Theo gave me the perfect timing to make an excuse and head toward him.
"Well, it looks like Theo needs my help. I will go and help him out now. It doesn’t seem like he would be able to keep this up for long."
I told Emma as I headed out. She did not seem like she was in a mood to talk about her son anymore anyway.
"Hmm, you go and help him out. I just... need to be alone for a few minutes."
Emma told me, and I quickly left her alone.
But in my mind, I could not help but think about what she told me.
’An uncleared fire dungeon on an inactive volcano? Something does come to mind. But there is no way it’s the same dungeon from ten years ago. It would have exploded by now.’
Usually, dungeons had a time frame of one to two years before they exploded and sent monsters out. The longer a dungeon took to explode, the stronger the monsters that came out.
That was why most dungeons needed to be cleared during that time.
I was tasked with cleaning the fire dungeon before the S-class dungeon showed up and became our priority.
But surely that dungeon had not been open for ten years? It would become much more than a natural disaster at this rate.
’There is no way that’s happening. I am surely mistaken. Someone else must have gotten to that dungeon, and this one is a coincidence.’
