Chapter 126: Ch 126: Surely it’s not the Same?- Part 4

The silence around us felt stifling. I had not realized just how distant we both had gotten from each other.

But one look at Theo told me that he was not nervous because of our distance, but because my room filled with my scent.

The logical thing to do here was to send the alpha back because it was not right to invite an unmated alpha into my room as an unmated omega.

But my instincts and my will seemed to disappear when it came to Theo, and I acted like a brainless omega.

And the same happened this time as well.

As soon as I looked into Theo’s eyes, I knew that I had lost this round.

"Please come in. You are here in my room after a long time, right? You can make yourself comfortable in here."

I told Theo, and he looked startled.

"H-Huh-? Oh yeah-! It has been a long time since I came here. Your... pheromones are all over this room."

Theo told me, and I felt a giggle escape my throat.

"Of course. Isn’t that a given because this is my room? I bet your room smells like you as well."

I told Theo, and he paused. His eyes widened, and he stuttered to get words out.

"M-My room? Ah yes, it does smell like me... I think. I mean, I never noticed that before, so I cannot tell. A-anyway, what can I help you with? No wait-! I was the one who asked to come in."

Theo sounded nervous as he walked toward my bed before his knees collided with the frame, and he fell face-first into the soft bed.

He buried his face into the pillow so that I wouldn’t have to see his embarrassed face.

I only laughed at this behavior, but Theo looked beyond embarrassed.

"P-Please stop laughing. This is not funny. Ugh, I feel so embarrassed."

Theo spoke out loud, but none of this was meant to be heard by me. I pretended I did not hear most of it as I sat beside him.

The room was filled with silence that I broke after a while.

"It has been some time since we were together like this, right? I just feel like life has gotten pretty... hectic lately. It’s one thing after another."

I told the alpha, and Theo nodded.

"Yeah. By the way, Kyle, do you really have to go back to being a hunter? Can’t you stay with me as you are? I promise I will do everything in my power to make you happy."

Theo asked... almost begged, with his wide eyes looking at me.

Looking at him made me feel bad, and I almost agreed to anything he asked of me. But then I caught myself and thought about all that had happened.

"I... cannot promise that. I know that I don’t owe the world anything and I can retire, but I don’t want to. Something in me wants to look more into the topic of dungeons and such."

I told Theo, and his look told me that he did not understand what I meant.

But he was not going to judge me either. He was just that kind of person, and I respected him for it.

After looking at Theo for a while, I found that I could no longer look at him. So I turned my back to him as I decided to tell him more bad news.

"Theo, I will be heading to another dungeon soon. It’s near an inactive volcano, and I might be gone for a week soon. Just make sure to take care of yourself and this store for me in the meantime."

I told Theo, and I felt him pause as he reached toward me.

"Y-You are going again? But why?"

Theo asked in a small voice. He sounded betrayed, and I felt bad about telling him more bad news.

But I also did not want to leave without telling him anything.

"Don’t think that I am leaving forever or anything. I will still come back after a week at the most."

I told Theo as I turned to take a look back. But Theo seemed to have gone quiet as he gave me a blank look.

Then, he finally spoke up, but his voice sounded blank.

"You are going to come back? Are you sure about that? How can you be so sure? I... will you even listen to me this time if I tell you not to go?"

Theo asked me, and I felt my words die down in my throat.

Theo sounded serious when he asked me this, but I felt like I had no reply left to give him. The alpha just scoffed as he tightened his arms around me.

"Well, it doesn’t matter what I say anyway. You are still going to do what you want. In that case, I will also do what I want."

The alpha told me, and I felt goosebumps appear all over my body. Something about the way Theo spoke made me shiver.

"Hey, Theo—"

"Don’t think about it too much. I now know the real enemy I have, but that’s not something you need to be worried about. You should just close your eyes and go to sleep."

The alpha holding on to me told me, but a part of me knew that I could not let things end this way. But before I could speak more, I felt sleep taking over my senses.

"Ugh, Theo... this is not... over..."

I told him, but Theo just chuckled as he kept patting my head.

"Just go to sleep now. And thank you for showing me the errors of my ways."

The alpha told me, but I was already half asleep by now to be able to tell whether what I heard was the truth or whether he was just speaking for the sake of speaking.

Whatever the case was, I was able to relax myself and forget about all the mess.

And the next morning, when I woke up, Theo was not in my bed or my room.
