The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 184: Ch : Toward the End- Part 4
"Someone, hurry and check the left side. What are the readings there? Anything we can use?"
"No! These readings are not normal. What should we do about them? Can we even use them? Just what is going on?"
Panic gripped the whole department as people ran around. It was so bad that they did not even notice when I and the other three alphas entered.
Someone almost collided with me as they hurried to get out, and that was when people realized that they had company.
Everyone in the department froze as one as they looked our way. I did not want to be in their way, so I kept my distance.
"Please continue what you were doing. Do not feel bothered by me or anyone else."
I told them, but the department experts just frowned before they gestured for us to come in.
"It’s good that you are all here as well. There was something we wanted to run by you just to make sure things were fine. Here, what do you see when you look at the data?"
The head researcher gave us small files to look at. These files were nothing special to look at, but still, I could not help but think that something was wrong with them.
Unlike me, the other three seemed much more used to looking at these files, and Rhiner was the one who spoke up first.
"These files... this data... why is it so violent? The energy readings are off the chart here. Are things really this bad?"
He asked as he looked down at the data, and the researcher sighed as she looked at him.
"Well, from what we can find, the energy readings all around the world have been on a steady increase since a few days ago. At this point, it won’t be wrong to say that our world is turning into a dungeon as well."
She told us all, and even I gasped at her words.
That was the worst-case scenario— for us to turn into a dungeon as well. But somehow, I was not as shocked as everyone else was.
Maybe because I had already heard someone talking about dungeons and how dungeons were just other worlds, I could understand why this was happening.
But not why, or the reason behind this.
"Our world is turning into a dungeon? Are you kidding us? Why and how... no, that’s not important. How do we stop this from happening?"
Lynn asked in an almost panicked voice.
A dungeon was a dangerous place. A normal person wouldn’t survive a dungeon, no matter what. And since Lynn knew that, he felt worried about ordinary people and what would happen to them if this world did turn into a dungeon.
I shared many of his worries, so I stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Lynn calmed down at my touch, but he did not back down completely.
He kept looking at the researcher for an explanation.
The researcher also looked startled by Rhiner’s actions, and her mouth opened and closed as she tried to think what she needed to say to not trigger the alpha even more. But in the end, she did not find anything.
"Look, I am just telling you the readings and the research I found. What you make out of it is not my concern. I don’t know how to stop all this any more than you do."
She told us all, and Rhiner held Lynn back before he did something he would regret later.
"Thank you for all your hard work. I am sure the situation is just as tense for you as it is for all of us. Still, the fact that you are willing to help us out is something for sure."
The man told the researcher, and her look softened for a second as she looked at the alpha.
"Don’t worry. I and the others will do our best for our world as well. But just be ready to accept what happens. There are things that are not even in our control."
Another researcher told us, and we had no choice but to exit.
I had a feeling that the only one who would be able to explain what was going on was either Theo or another High Priest. So I was going to go and find them.
I had not even taken a few steps when I felt a hand on my wrist. Someone turned me around, and I met Lynn’s eyes.
The alpha looked angry, but he took some breaths to calm himself down.
"Where do you think you are going? You need to sit down before you collapse once more. We are all as worried as you are, but you collapsing is the last thing we need."
Lynn sounded confident when he told me this. It was as if he knew that I could and would collapse if I left now.
And as much as I wanted to argue with him, I had a feeling that he was right. Fatigue was gripping me hard, and I could feel the edges of my consciousness starting to fade.
"Fine, I will go to sleep for now. But do not take any action without me. I want to be informed and be kept in the loop, no matter what you decide."
I told the alpha trio before I dragged my tired body back to sleep. As I walked past the people, I suddenly felt lonely.
Theo was not here and Kuro... was gone. Emma and Ben had their own family to focus on, and everyone else was a stranger.
The world was cruel indeed. It was taking away everything it could, and the only way I could keep my sanity was to pretend none of it existed and none of it was real.
’I should take a small nap. Just a small one. And then I will get up and start dungeon hunting once more. I will make sure the world does not turn into a dungeon at all costs.’
Unfortunately, the countdown for the end had already started.
