Chapter 216: Chapter 216: I’m Not a Good Person

Maya Monroe heard the noise and turned her head, pausing for a few seconds.

"Kiki Monroe?"

Kiki Monroe smiled lightly and sat down calmly next to Maya Monroe.

"I never thought you’d like such an out-of-the-way place. How many people will notice you sitting here?"

Kiki Monroe’s tone wasn’t just simply sarcastic; there was also a hint of subtle confusion.

Kiki Monroe was originally sitting in a front position, and everyone knows that the closer to the front, the more noticeable. But upon seeing Maya Monroe give up her front seat for one in the back, she was a bit puzzled.

Maya Monroe always had many tricks up her sleeve, and perhaps this spot had some unknown advantage. After thinking it over, she decided to follow Maya Monroe and gave up her front-row seat.

"Yet here you are, following along?"

Maya Monroe’s tone was calm, but Kiki Monroe’s face flushed slightly.

"Hmph, I’m just here to see what tricks you’re up to!"

Kiki Monroe hugged her arms, leaned closer to Maya Monroe, and muttered harshly, "This award ceremony is probably a waste of time for you, Maya Monroe."

Maya Monroe didn’t bother to look at her; Kiki Monroe was notably annoying.

After waiting a few seconds without a response from Maya Monroe, Kiki Monroe spoke again without embarrassment, "Because with your third-rate acting skills, there’s no way you can win any award."

"Maya Monroe, the Best Actress award this time is definitely in my pocket, and you... will only serve as my backdrop."

Nina Vance had been holding Maya Monroe’s arm closely, so everything Kiki Monroe said reached her ears as well.

Maya Monroe looked bored and didn’t reply, but Nina Vance couldn’t help herself: "You’re not afraid of biting your own tongue with those big words, are you? You don’t even measure your own weight but boast around here. Winning an award requires acting skills, not just talking!"

Kiki Monroe paused, glanced at Nina Vance, and said, "I’m just speaking the truth."

"I see you’re getting along well with Maya Monroe, but I advise you to stay away from her. She’s heartless and just using you; she won’t really become your friend!"

"You sure are a busybody." Maya Monroe turned her head, eyes filled with obvious impatience, "Be quiet, or get out."

"You’re telling me to get out? Hmph..." Kiki Monroe snorted coldly, "Who do you think you are, telling me to leave?"

Maya Monroe curled the corner of her mouth into a smile, but it was not friendly; in fact, it was the opposite, more like a threat.

"Do you want to test it?"

Her voice slowed, adding a bit more pressure.

Kiki Monroe’s lips moved slightly, then she turned her head awkwardly.

Without the noise, Maya Monroe took out a few candies from her bag and put one in her mouth.

It was a filled candy, and just a gentle bite released a burst of fruity flavor in her mouth.

As if remembering something, Maya Monroe turned her head and opened her palm.

Her jade-like fingers were delicate and slender, with a few pieces of candy wrapped in colorful wrappers in her palm.

"Want one?"

Nina Vance was pleasantly surprised: "You’re willing to share with me?"

Maya Monroe nodded slightly: "Yes."

Nina Vance casually took one, feeling quite excited inside.

From the last "Great Survival Challenge," Nina Vance learned quite a bit about Maya Monroe and remembered that Maya was very protective of her food.

Now that Maya Monroe was willing to share candy with her, did this mean she considered her a friend... or at least had a pretty good impression of her?

Nina Vance clutched the candy in her hand and said softly, "Maya Monroe, you’re so nice to me. From the last time we spent time together, I could tell you’re a really good person!"

"A good person?" Maya Monroe’s cheek puffed up slightly as she raised her eyebrow, "Just because I gave you candy?"

"Of course! I even watched your variety shows, and even though you don’t like to show off, you really are a very good person in my eyes!"

"I’m not a good person..." Maya Monroe paused, "Not exactly a good person..."

Maya Monroe had already chewed three candies but noticed Nina Vance hadn’t unwrapped hers yet.

"Don’t you like it?"

"I don’t want to eat it just yet; I want to keep it for now." Nina Vance noticed several cameras sweeping by and quickly tugged on Maya Monroe’s sleeve.

"Maya Monroe, there are quite a few cameras around here; let’s not eat candy right now, just in case others make a fuss over it."

She looked nervous, squeezing Maya Monroe’s sleeve.

Maya Monroe didn’t seem to care, "It’s okay; our position is pretty good. It’s not that easy to get photographed."

"But what if... what if... they catch us?"

Maya Monroe waved her hand, "It’s fine; if they take pictures, they do. It’s no big deal."

Nina Vance was surprised for a moment, then her eyes brightened, "Maya Monroe, you’re really free from external constraints. I’ve never met anyone as carefree as you..."

Seeing that Nina Vance was about to compliment her again, Maya Monroe raised her right hand.

"Enough with the compliments. I’m just an ordinary person, nothing special."

Maya Monroe couldn’t understand why Nina Vance had such a high opinion of her.

Nina Vance said nothing more, her eyes still twinkling with amusement.

They chatted for a while longer before two hosts took the stage, and the noisy auditorium suddenly quieted down.

"Hello everyone, welcome to the live ceremony of the 32nd Huazhong Awards. I’m host Evan Davis."

"I’m host Ben Carter."

The male and female hosts introduced themselves.

Maya Monroe clapped along with the people around her, sucking on her candy.

Ben Carter glanced at the audience and grinned, "I see a lot of familiar faces."

Evan Davis also smiled and said, "Yes, I see Mason Warner. Mason, it’s been a while."

His gaze stopped at a spot in the audience, and the person there, hair already grey, wearing reading glasses, smiled slightly.

The hosts then casually chatted with a few actors, seemingly aimless, but in reality, all were recently talked-about figures.

"I see Miles Wallace. Miles, give us a wave! And the other members of FREE sitting beside you, welcome!"

Miles Wallace and the others waved their hands.

Maya Monroe kept her head down, playing on her phone with earbuds in her ears, her fingers sliding over the screen.

Suddenly, Nina Vance anxiously nudged her arm.

Maya Monroe took out the earbuds and looked at her sideways, "What’s up?"

"Maya Monroe, quickly wave, quickly wave!"

In her puzzlement, the host on stage spoke again:

"Where’s Maya Monroe? Maya Monroe, where are you?"

"Oh, I see her." Ben Carter chuckled, "Just now, you had your head down, so I didn’t notice."

"Maya Monroe, give a wave to let the audience see you!"

Maya Monroe lifted her head and waved.

Luckily, the host quickly moved on to someone else, allowing Maya Monroe a bit of peace.

Kiki Monroe, sitting beside her, gritted her teeth, letting out a sigh of relief at the thought of the upcoming awards. Soon, everyone would know who truly had the talent.
