The Tyrannical Wolf King's Contract Bride-Chapter 110: Encountering the Black Storm
Lila’s POV
Jasper pulled me down, rolling into a depression behind a sand dune. He shielded me tightly with his own body. "Hold on to me! No matter what happens, don’t let go!"
BOOM—!
A deafening roar echoed, as if the sky were falling and the earth splitting apart. The wall of black sand completely devoured our camp. In that instant, I felt a massive impact slam into Jasper’s back. He let out a muffled groan but continued to shield me without wavering.
"Jasper!" I cried out.
"I’m fine..." His voice was a little weak, but still firm. "Don’t be afraid. This is just the beginning."
I clutched his shirt. Amidst the swirling darkness and fury, he was my only anchor. I didn’t know how long the storm would last or what had happened to the guards, but I could feel us being pushed by this force toward an unknown abyss.
I don’t know how much time passed—maybe minutes, maybe hours—but the wind finally started to die down. I peeked my head out from Jasper’s arms and saw that our surroundings were a complete wreck.
The sandstorm finally subsided, and the world fell into a deathly silence.
Jasper and I stood at the top of a dune, looking down at the wasteland that had been completely reshaped by the storm. The once-luxurious camp had vanished without a trace, leaving only a few broken metal frames half-buried in the sand like the bleached bones of a giant beast. The afterglow of the sunset stained the sky a tragic blood-red, reflecting across the boundless Desert Sea, creating a scene that was both magnificent and desolate.
"Riven and the guards..." I looked worriedly into the distance, where there were only rolling dunes and no sign of anyone.
"They’re professionally trained; they should be able to protect themselves." Jasper brushed the sand from his military jacket. Though his tone was calm, I could see the hard line of his jaw. "Right now, we need to worry about ourselves."
He turned around, his golden eyes shining with a resolute light in the twilight. "Lila, trust me. I will get you out of here."
I nodded. The anxiety in my heart had mostly vanished the moment he appeared. As long as he was here, I could feel at ease, even in the most desperate of situations.
"Let’s gather whatever’s useful." Jasper took my hand and led me down the dune. We rummaged through the overturned supply crates and found a few surviving items: a military first-aid kit, a compass (though its needle was spinning wildly, clearly disrupted by the storm’s magnetic field), two unopened bottles of mineral water, and a high-calorie compressed biscuit.
I stuffed these items into a waterproof canvas backpack Jasper had found. Its lightness was unsettling. In this vast desert, two bottles of water and a single biscuit clearly wouldn’t last long.
"This way." Jasper took my hand and pointed east without the slightest hesitation.
"How do you know which way to go?" I asked curiously, stumbling after him on the soft sand. We were surrounded by identical dunes with no landmarks. I couldn’t even tell north from south, east from west.
"A wolf’s instinct." He glanced back at me, a confident arc forming on his lips. "Besides, I can smell moisture in the air."
I was a little surprised. I had only known him as the Wolf King, a being of immense combat power and presence. I never expected him to be so skilled at wilderness survival. He walked ahead of me, his steps steady and strong, each one landing on the firmest part of the sand’s crest. He would glance back at me from time to time, reaching out a hand to pull me along.
"Tired?" He noticed I was a little out of breath and slowed his pace.
"Not tired." I shook my head, watching his long shadow stretch out in the sunset. A strange feeling bloomed in my heart. In this moment, he had shed the composed elegance of his high-status role in human society and returned to his true Werewolf form—an ancient hunter, brimming with a wild, magnetic charm. Sweat dampened the stray locks of hair on his forehead. His taut back muscles were faintly visible beneath his tight-fitting T-shirt, every line defined with explosive power.
’I have to admit, my Wolf King is incredibly charming.’
After walking for about an hour, the sun sank completely below the horizon. Night fell upon the desert in an instant, and the temperature dropped sharply. I couldn’t help but shiver, and Jasper immediately took off his jacket and draped it over me.
"I can manage. You should wear it," I said, trying to refuse.
"I’m a man. I have a higher body temperature." He buttoned it up for me without taking no for an answer. The jacket, carrying his body heat and the faint scent of tobacco, instantly enveloped me, chasing away the chill.
Just then, a cold gust of wind swept by, kicking up grains of sand that stung my face. Jasper immediately pulled me into his arms, turning his back to the wind.
"Looks like it’s going to be a cold night," he said with a frown.
I peeked out from his embrace, gazing at the pitch-black, silent Desert Sea around us. Though there was starlight, the darkness still felt oppressive. To dispel the gloom, and also to give him a little surprise, I closed my eyes and gently raised my hands.
"Lila?" Jasper looked at me, a little confused.
"Don’t move," I said softly, as the power of the Moon Priestess flowed slowly through me. ’Since I can sense the phases of the moon and heal life, I can surely resonate with the faint light of the heavens.’
The next second, a miracle happened.
The dark grains of sand around us suddenly began to emit a faint, soft, silvery-white glow. It was as if countless fireflies had been awakened. The lights flowed with our steps and danced with the evening breeze. We seemed to be walking on a flowing river of stars, shattering specks of silver light with every footstep.
"My God..." Jasper breathed in amazement. He looked at me, his eyes reflecting the vast silvery light, full of shock and love. "Lila, you’re truly incredible."
I smiled at him and waved my hands gently. The points of light swirled around us as if they were alive, transforming the dark desert into a fantastical fairytale world.
"This way, it doesn’t feel so cold, and it’s not so scary either," I said.
"I suddenly feel that, even without all the luxurious amenities," Jasper’s gaze was so tender it felt like it could pull me in, "having this special experience with you is more than worth it."
He reached out and gently caressed my cheek, his voice low and magnetic. "Tell me, does this count as our honeymoon? The conditions are a bit rough, but this is the most real version of us, isn’t it?"
Warmth spread through my heart. I stood on my tiptoes and placed a light kiss on the corner of his lips. "It counts. As long as I’m with you, anywhere is our honeymoon."
We embraced in this sea of silver light, listening to each other’s heartbeats, temporarily forgetting the danger behind us and the uncertainty ahead.
But romance was romance, and reality remained. I withdrew my power, and the surrounding light gradually faded, leaving only a sky full of stars.
"Jasper, we need to find a place to spend the night," I said, leaning against his chest. "Even with the moonlight, the desert night is too cold. I’m afraid my power won’t last for long."
Jasper nodded, his gaze sharpening. He looked up at the starry sky, then scanned the terrain around us. "Follow me."
