The Ugly Duckling Of The Tiger Tribe-Chapter 196: So, shall we say it was the work of fate?
"You... Who did you say you were?"
Noah sat up, knowing it was finally his time to shine.
"I’m Noah." He said and nothing more. My left brow tilted up and my lips twisted. Was that it?
"Where’s the grand introduction?" I asked.
Damar and Fenric were by my side, arms folded and looking straight at the wolf as though this was an interview.
"What else would you like to know, little tiger?" He asked and I heard Fenric growl under his breath. I looked at him.
"What’s wrong?" I asked but he threw his face aside, refusing to respond.
"He’s probably jealous I gave you a cute nickname and he didn’t." He cackled and this made Fenric frown even more.
Though Noah knew the situation he was in, he was way too laid back, as if confident that no matter what he did or said, he’d be forgiven.
Where is that confidence coming from?
I watched him, analyzing his habits, the way he smirked, and then his body. Ahem. That last part wasn’t needed but my eyes lingered for their own reason.
In any case, I’ve analyzed the kind of person he is and I have a lot of questions.
"Noah, you’re a black wolf," I said and he nodded. "Then tell me, how is it that you haven’t ever marked a female before?"
That question made Noah yawn.
"None were worth it." He said and my face went solemn. This led me to the next question brooding in my mind.
"Did you decide that before or after you mated with them?" I asked, and he paused, looking at me, surprised.
The other two were shocked, looking at me like I didn’t know what I was saying.
Noah’s lips crinkled up, a laugh coming from nowhere.
"You... You’re really interesting. How did you guess it so well?"
They gasped.
"What?!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Answer the question," I said, keeping a straight face.
"Well, I decided that before they all threw themselves on me. I have a duty to produce heirs, but I don’t have a duty to take anyone as my mate so I kept my mark to myself."
"I see." I nodded. "Then, why did you give me, someone you just met, someone desperate... That precious mark of yours?"
For some reason, as I asked that question, my heart ached.
"I don’t know," he drew closer, crawling on all fours until his face was very close to mine. "You tell me. Why do you think I gave you my mark?"
Damar and Fenric looked like they were about to explode with rage and questions, but they kept it to themselves for fear that I would get mad.
They did not like the expression on my face.
"I don’t know either," I said, closing my eyes and then opening them, my lashes fluttering softly. "I know I didn’t use any charms, though, but your attraction towards me was definitely not normal. So, shall we say it was the work of fate?"
"Fate?"
"Yes. You are one of the males destined to be by my side. If we think of it like this, we don’t have to crack our heads foo much thinking of a reason for your unusual action."
Noah rubbed his chin and sat back on his butt.
"You even brought a convenient solution. As I thought, you’re really interesting." He said and my lips curled, though not in a practical smile.
It wasn’t all a guess, you know.
The reason why I was able to know Noah was a beast who probably already had a few pups of his own, despite not having a mate was because I made a similar character in my novel.
Though I didn’t put much details to his backstory. He was just someone who all females wanted to get with, going as far as going to him during their Estrus just to get his heir, thinking he would accept them once they had his heirs but none of it worked.
He liked being a free male and of course, liked fucking too... A typical playboy who didn’t want to take on any responsibility until he was enamored by the female lead and left his single life in the ashes.
He is very similar to Noah, only I did not make that character a tanned hottie with long black hair, but he did belong to the black wolf tribe.
And compared to that guy who just wanted to dine and dash, it seems like Noah has a few restraints. He keeps talking about responsibilities and the position he’s in, as if he has an important position in his tribe.
Is he a Chief’s son? Or maybe an Elder’s son.
The level of civilization his tribe has attained will be the determinant of how important the role of chief and elders is in his tribe, so until then.
"Next question," I said. "You talked like you knew a lot about a female’s conception stage. Should I interpret it that it’s because you’ve gotten a couple of them pregnant?"
"Pregnant?" He tilted his head.
"It’s another word for conception," I said, realizing they probably didn’t use that word. "And it’s more convenient."
"Hm, pregnant." He said. "Then, you’re pregnant," he snapped his fingers, grinning proudly and I nodded. He has a fast brain, so he didn’t ask questions.
The other two beside me liked the word as well.
"Ari is pregnant," Damar said.
"We’ll treat you more gently now that we know you’re pregnant," Fenric said, under his eyes flushed pink. The thought still got him super excited.
They all took turns saying the word just to get used to it and I nodded, clearing my throat.
"Well, it is true I’ve gotten a few ’pregnant’ but that’s not how I knew. There’s something called education," he said and I flinched, my eyes widening.
"What?"
Noah looked proud as he continued,
"Small tribes like yours might not know what it means but it’s—"
"Education," I repeated, interrupting him. "You guys have education?" I leaped forward towards him, my knees crushing the soil and he instinctively moved his head back.
My sudden outburst took him aback, and honestly, he was curious.
"Yes, but do you know what that is?" He asked and I nodded frantically. "Really? Then what is it? I’d like to know what you think it is."
I flinched. Shoot! I got too excited.
I immediately reclined, darting my eyes aside.
"Well, I don’t know how to explain it but I... I heard it in passing, so I’m not very sure."
"Hmm," he observed my expression, and I hid my face in Fenric’s arm. "Alright then, I’ll tell you what it is."
Phew. Thankfully, he let it go.
