Chapter 92: Operation firewall

Argh! The screams of a young male soldier echoed through the halls as a zombie latched onto him. Furiously sinking its teeth into his neck.

Get off! He shouted blasting the creatures head clean off with his handgun. But the damage was already don with blood gushing from the deep bitemark.

h-help me. he begged to his pier, also a male soldier in front.

a-am sorry. the latter replied pointing his assault rifle, his fingers locating the trigger button.

Grahh! Just before he was about to fire a zombie emerged out of nowhere grabbing him in a tight grip ready to chomp down. Based on instinct his will to survive kicked in pushing himself to the fall, falling back first. Using the momentum to push his body upwards, from the zombie.

Bang bang! Not hesitating he fired two shots, hitting the creature point blank in its skull. Gazing at his comrade he witnessed him undergoing changes drastically. Falling into the effects of the zombie bit mutating his genes into that of the undead.

I must find a way out of her. The young man thought taking to is heels. Running as fast as he could away from the location. Taking a right turn he met a dead end, littered with blood giving off a pungent smell which wreaked of filth.

Dammit. He cursed fighting the urge not to throw up. Continuing in his run he made his way down the steps, luckily there wasn’t any zombies lingering on it.

Reaching the down floor in the segment he caught a glimpse of a zombie standing too close to the steps. Taking aim he was about firing but stopped hearing more subtle groans.

t-there’s more of them? His face went pale realizing his path to escape was blocked by some of mindless flesh eaters.

I only have 10 shots left. His energy bullets were almost exhausted, having wasted most in clearing way in the upper floors. Thinking on what to do his mind raced not having much options.

I’ll have to take my chances and hope for the best. His plan was simple, outrun the zombies. Sure, they were carnivores that feasted on human skin but most were slow and not quick to react. An average human was practically faster than these creatures. And if planned right could slip past these zombies.

Sure, it was a suicide attempt and had many flaws. But given this current situation a plan was better than none!

Taking a deep breath, he steadied himself for the run of a lifetime.

Bang! Eliminating the zombie closest to the steps he ran like crazy in the spacious reception avoiding the zombies that stood around. Shooting out energy bullets to the ones that got too close.

Am doing it, just some few meters and I’ll be free. His heart raced seeing the exit of this section. Luckily it wasn’t surrounded by zombies or blocked by any carnage. Providing an all through clean getaway.

Bang!

[energy bullet gauge: 4] 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

The digital gauge emitted a low green light displaying his remaining bullets. Not stopping he sprinted faster the instinct to survive surpassing the haunting fear of becoming snacks for these monsters.

Grahh!

Two zombies, male and female conjoined hybrid dashed towards him. Their speed slightly faster than his with a deadly killer intent flickering in their eyes.

Swiping its bloodied hand it aimed for his head but he dodged by shifting back just in time. Shooting an energy bullet toward the hybrid zombie chest.

It blocked? His pupils shrunk seeing the zombie deflect the attack with its other arm. leaping towards him like a dog midair.

Shit. He grunted struggling to keep the gun in their mouth, its sheer force equivalent to 10 bodybuilders. Pinning him to the floor like a ragdoll. Their arms pressing against his shoulders, digging into his skin with their rotten nails. Making him scream in pain.

i-i can’t die, not now. Tears streamed down his cheeks seeing his life flash before his eyes. An overwhelming sense of grief and pain drowning him.

He’d been so close to fulfill his plan but now everything was about to be flushed down the drain.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Just when he thought it was over multiple bang sounds cut through the air breaking the silence. Followed by several green colored energy bullets raining down to the hybrid zombie. Blowing both its skull wide open, killing the others in the process.

Are you alright? A female elite crow asked helping him up to his feet.

Yes, thank you. He calmly said, looking around his face contorted into a frown.

Where are the others?

What others? She frowned not knowing what he meant.

Your squad. You’re obviously part of the elite crows so you must have a squad. Staring at him she didn’t utter a word, simply walking towards the staircase.

You’re not planning on going back there, right? He awkwardly chuckled but received no response from the young lady with short dark hair.

Orders are to wait here for other survivors. She indifferently spoke taking him aback.

You’re joking right? The exits literally there let’s go you crazy bitch. He urged to no avail.

Orders are to wait. She spoke with her neutral expression.

Screw you am out of here. Walking towards the door an object cut through the air piercing both his skin followed by two gunshot sounds.

w-what the hell you shot me!

Orders are to wait; insubordination won’t be tolerated. Hearing her his expression darkened, realizing the direness of his situation.

She’s serious. He could read her eyes, and knew she was serious about staying.

......

In the upper parts of a section in enders power plant, a battle sprawled on. Against two figures one the dominant in this brawl.

Swinging the metal pipe, the man with green veins running all over his body tried to strike the creature at its head. He was faster than the normal human eyes could keep up with, like the characters in anime. But his opponent was faster tilting its head the side avoiding it.

Landing a clenched fist to the mans skin sending him flying back some meters colliding with a wall.

Phough! Phough! Max coughed up fresh blood. His body was battered beyond recognition, along with the fatal injuries sustained. Yet somehow, he was alive.

Am losing my senses. He chuckled glancing at the green lines enveloping his body. He could feel he was turning into a zombie, but not like he’d anticipated. Usually when a person was bitten or scratched by a zombie, turning was inevitable. If severe conditions weren’t applied.

The process depended entirely on the severeness of the afflicted wound by the creature. Bite was considered the fastest especially in the weak spots that were closer to the brain.

Initiating the mutation process which led to incredible pain, shedding of skin, hair, loss of senses, and imminent death. Only to be reborn as a mindless flesh-eating monster.

But for some reason his mutation process wasn’t like anything he’d theorized. No pain, no loss of senses whatsoever, almost like an easy transition.

Maybe I have to die first. He chuckled fantasizing about his own death.

Hey you! Tell me, how does it feel like to die? He shouted pointing at the incoming zombie. Stopping the zombie tilted its head a bit to the side in a confused motion.

He-he-he. It slowly giggled in the most eerie way possible, sending shivers down max spine.

Creepy. Sighing max gritted his teeth pushing his beaten-up body from the wall. Several bones cracked simultaneously with each step he took. A stinging pain reverberating in his whole system escalating fast.

Am healing but its slow. He could feel it the cells in his body working like surgeons replacing dead layers of flesh sealing back. It was amazing yet daunting he was no longer human.

My heartbeat’s faint, it won’t be long till I die. Having little time left he decided to make the most out of it. Stomping his foot he shot out for one last clash the steel pipe tightly clutched in his hand.

Seeing this a weird grin formed on the creature’s face enjoying this. Not moving it also ran forth, clashing with max at the center. The steel pipe finding its mark to its head, while the creatures fist found its target at max heart.

Phough! He coughed up a mouthful of greenish blood. His heart exploded to bits, with the zombie’s hand still in him.

So, this is how I die. How intriguing... A soft smile escaped his lips, his eyes slowly closing shut. Images from his memories flashed before his eyes like blinding lights.

Let’s go to hell. He grinned pressing a small red button on an oval device with his last breath.

Beep! Beep!

Multiple beep sounds echoed in the building along with several explosions going off. Rattling the entire enders power plant like a huge earthquake. Blasting parts of the building into bits, destroying whatever was left in them.

Smoke trailed the air so high in the sky, forming a huge mushroom. Flames with otherworldly heat blazed from the disintegrating building. Caused by the detonators planted, and energy orbs housed in discrete portions in the buildings.
