The Unvanquished: Child of Nihility-Chapter 55: Mr. Green Poison Gu?
"Ah... two Saint Rank experts, huh? I guess I have no reason to hold back anymore." He paused. "I can’t let the ancient families lose face to those two–especially that girl... She feels both familiar and yet unfamiliar..."
---
With that thought, his aura changed. The space around him trembled as a silver light cloaked his gauntlets and the silver tri-blades began to glow.
In a flash, he disappeared–then reappeared beneath the 2-Star+ Bone Devourer Skeleton. Another flash, and he was behind it, his gauntlet tri-blade driving through its spine from the back of its neck zipping down to its tail in one clean motion.
Graahkkk!
The monster screamed as crimson mist burst from its wounds. The mist began healing the damage injury–but Jack wasn’t done. With a swift silver slash, one of the monster’s arms was severed, spraying dark blood across the desert floor. Then its head was cleaved clean off as well.
Thud!
The monster’s lifeless body crashed down as Jack stood atop it, his expression blank. His white blindfold fluttered in the air, and sparks flickered across his silver gauntlets tri-blades.
---
Elsewhere, Gina Erickson–who was previously flung aside by the dark horn mountain goat like a ragdoll–grinned. A rare, sinister curl touched the corner of her beautiful lips, adding a trace of danger to her flawless face.
"I’m tired of being tossed around like a doll... time to let loose."
Her entire being transformed. Her usual orange hair flared into bright red, her glowing violet eyes deepened, and her aura intensified. With her twin short spears in hand, she now looked like a true battle goddess.
Without hesitation, she moved, her red hair trailing like fire behind her. Zaphi and Ashley, her teammates, stepped aside as if they instinctively knew what was coming.
ROAR!
The Dark Horn Mountain Goat roared and lunged. It didn’t retreat.
Human and monster collided, unleashing a violent surge of black and red energy.
---
Meanwhile, Mulan Night, who was teamed with Leo Mordric, underwent a transformation of her own. The fire element surrounding her surged uncontrollably as she finally released her suppressed cultivation.
Yes–Mulan wasn’t an awakened supernatural expert. She was a cultivator.
The academy didn’t only recruit awakened talents; it also welcomed cultivators, and Mulan–she had the best talent in cultivation among the trial candidates. Mana swirled around her as her cultivation rose from Bronze Dew Stage to Silver Rain Stage.
What shocked many was that she wasn’t from any of the seven ancient families–she came from a humble background...
The 2-Star+ Bone Devourer Skeleton focused on her, but seeing the fierce flames surrounding her, it instinctively backed off. As fire was its nemesis.
Seeing the chance, Leo moved.
---
Denis, who was locked in battle with the Red Scales Poison Lizard alongside Tyler, saw everything unfold and felt the pressure mount.
"What am I missing? I’m at the peak of the awakened rank... Why does it feel just out of reach?"
Thoughts clashed in his mind. "Even that trash... even he did it. What’s wrong with me?"
He was so lost in thought that the monster seized the chance to knock him flying.
---
With Jack, Gina, and Mulan revealing their true strength, the battle reached a new level. Monsters fell. Weaker trial candidates were slaughtered by monsters. Some lucky ones barely escaped the battlefield.
Now, five trial candidates had revealed power on the level of Saint Rank which was rere in all of the academy trial history.
---
Suddenly, the crimson mist covering the trial ground cleared. Three figures emerged from the forest, each wearing navy blue pants with white designs and a white t-shirt under a navy blue trench coat. On the back of each coat was a genetic emblem surrounded by seven different color small circles. Their shoulders bore three silver stars.
They were the 003-Star Threat Fighters–the academy’s elite reinforcements, dispatched due to the severity of the trial’s threat.
There was no urgency in the air, only a heavy silence.
The trial candidates weren’t screaming or panicking as they anticipated. Instead, their expressions bore the fatigue of survival, of having glimpsed the edge and stepped back from it.
Lying unconscious beneath a dead tree was Morca, his body still and breathing faint. Standing beside him was a girl in a black dress, her face hidden behind a black, silver-lined mask. A wide-brimmed black hat shadowed her features, casting a mysterious aura around her. Who else if not–Noe Laura...
A short distance away, other trial candidates gathered–some seated and slumped against dead trees, others sprawled across the dusty ground. Many were too exhausted or wounded to move, while a few remained on their feet, barely holding on.
Yes, you guessed it.
The battle had ended just moments before the reinforcements arrived. With the appearance of three Saint Experts, the tide had turned instantly.
The three D03-class fighters stood silently, scanning the battlefield in disbelief.
"How is this possible?" one of them whispered, noting the remains of a 3-star monster and the broken bodies of eight 2-star+ monster scattered across the terrain.
"How did they do it?"
Even a team of seven Saint experts would struggle to bring down a 3-star monster, let alone do so while fending off eight 2-star+ threats at the same time. And yet, these trial candidates had done exactly that.
How amused the three new comer feel.
"This year’s trial candidates are monsters..." the leading figure, a woman among the observers, muttered.
With that, the first academy trial came to an end.
---
Far away, in Section Four, inside a quiet white office room nestled in the heart of the Sherman Estate, a lone figure sat in solemn thought. Seated in his study chair was the First Elder of the Sherman family. His eyes were closed, his expression unreadable–but the weight of what had just occurred was already making its way to him.
Knock knock.
A soft knock echoed, pulling the First Elder from his thoughts. He cleared his throat with a quiet ahem before lazily saying, "Come in."
The door creaked open as a man in a black suit stepped inside, standing nervously before the First Elder.
"What’s the situation with the academy trial?" the elder asked, eyes still closed.
He was responsible for gathering all information related to this year’s trial. Someone had already been planted within the academy to send a letter the moment the trial concluded, and the man before him was one of the many informants of the Sherman family stationed in Section Four, tasked with delivering messages the moment they arrived at the residence.
The man bowed respectfully before speaking.
"Reporting to the master: the survival trial ended approximately five hours ago. According to the report, five of our elites were admitted as exceptional recruits, two as unique recruits, and one has yet to undergo the second trial–the Physique Test–due to fainting during the survival trial. The details remain unclear, but he is... currently being tended to by Mr. Green Poison Gu..."
At that point, he paused. The First Elder’s eyes snapped open in surprise.
"What did you say?" he asked sharply.
"One has yet–"
"Not that part. The last part," the First Elder interrupted, clearly wanting confirmation.
"Ah... one of our elites is being taken care of by Mr. Green Poison Gu?" he repeated, uncertain.
"Mr. Green Poison Gu is involved this time?"
Who’s the kid that caught his attention?" the elder muttered, half-doubting the report.
But he knew the message couldn’t be false–any information entering the Sherman residence had to carry their secret creed.
"His identity is sealed, but the sender couldn’t uncover who he is," the man replied.
’Who among them attracted Mr. Green Poison Gu’s attention?’ The question echoed in the elder’s mind. ’Is it Denis? Or that Tyler girl?’ He didn’t even consider the possibility of anyone else–it had to be one of them. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
They were the most outstanding among the Sherman family elites. Even his own son, Thur, lagged behind in terms of potential.
Still, the question remained unanswered. He didn’t bother asking about the unique recruits either. The academy had forbidden any information regarding their special recruits, and for certain reason.
Who is Mr. Green Poison Gu?
Well, simply put, he was a man deeply versed in alchemy–even before the apocalypse crisis began.
A respected legend, said to have vanished for years, never showing himself in public again.
Rumors speak of him awakening a supernatural poison talent–one that allowed him to grow stronger with every toxin he consumed. But they also say he lost all his cultivation after encountering a poison too potent to digest.
It’s said he later uncovered a secret that helped him recover, setting him on the path of a supernatural expert. With his poison arts, he could supposedly wipe out an entire section without leaving a trace.
Of course, these are all just rumors... or so they say.
The First Elder, however, knew better. He knew these tales might no...
Ahem. He cleared his throat softly before–He shifted his gaze back to the man in black, who continued, now hesitantly.
"It was also mentioned in the letter that Young Master Thu–Thur... he..."
He stammered, as if the words were too heavy to speak.
The slight smile on the elder’s lips disappeared at the mention of his son’s name. A foreboding feeling settled over him.
"What happened to Thur? Speak–now," he demanded.
