Chapter 71: Class Announcement Ceremony

(Chapter 71 – Class Announcement Ceremony)

"Now," he said, his voice cold and firm, "we begin the evaluation... and the assignment of your classes."

---

The golden hum of the hall faded into a sharp, expectant silence, so sharp that even a needle drop could have sounded like a thunderclap.

Vice Principal Evans Tamar, his black boots clicking softly on the polished platform, stepped forward with cold authority.

Standing at the center-edge of the elevated platform, his mere presence commanded attention even without a word. His sharp gaze lingered briefly on Morca, Jack, and Laura, before sweeping across the sea of new recruits, locking their breath in their chests.

’Is he doing it on purpose?’ one of the four instructors standing to the right couldn’t help but twist his lip. He was dressed in a gray-black and white cloak bearing the insignia of the EDA genetic symbol surrounded by seven small colored circles.

The other three wore similar cloaks but with variations: one in navy-blue, another in red-black – the only woman among them – and the last one in solid black.

They were not just ordinary instructors – they were the Head Instructors in charge of the four main divisions of EDA:

Elementary, Elite, Exceptional, and Unique Class.

The gray-black cloaked instructor was in charge of the Exceptional Class.

The lady in black sighed lightly, whispering internally, ’Let’s see how the Voidtech Guard Chief handles this circus.’

After all, everyone knew the reputation of the second Vice Principal – a man of immense power who bowed to no one but the Headmaster, and struck without hesitation when given the stage.

An unpredictable man: the Warhammer Judge of the Voidtech Guard.

At last, Evans spoke, his voice cutting across the heavy silence like a blade.

"Attention."

The hall froze. Silence.

"You have endured chaos. You have survived your first taste of Eden’s reality. But survival alone does not guarantee advancement."

He paused, letting the tension steep.

"Today, we rank your achievements. Today, we divide your paths."

A crystalline screen materialized above the platform, projecting a golden holographic list. The names remained blurred, awaiting the official announcement.

Vice Principal Evans raised a hand – and the screen shimmered.

The first names burned into view.

---

Top Three: Unique Class Honors

1st Place: Jack Voidspace

Leadership Merit: Outstanding

Combat Resilience: Superior

Tactical Influence: Noted

Special Evaluation: Displayed perfect leadership during crisis; quick-witted, emotionally controlled, stabilized ancient family geniuses and lower tier prodigies during the monster outbreak. Perfect storm-bringer.

2nd Place: Neo Laura

Combat Prowess: Extreme

Personal Bias: Noted

Final Standing: Excellent

Special Evaluation: Extremely powerful; primarily protected Morca after his collapse. Minimal larger battle contribution. Personal bias acknowledged.

3rd Place: Morca Sherman

Battlefield Contribution: Exceptional

Critical Endurance Failure: Noted

Final Standing: Superior

Special Evaluation: Supreme battlefield contribution – slaying a 3-Star monster, indirectly rallying others by example. However, collapsed early; survival rating in large-scale crises: vulnerable.

---

A ripple spread across the hall.

Some students widened their eyes; others exchanged shocked whispers.

’Morca clearly slayed the 3-Star monster! Why third?’

’Not fair!’

’There must be some mistake!’

Jack Voidspace, standing at the platform edge, remained still – almost as if he had expected nothing less, his blindfold hiding any flicker of emotion.

Neo Laura tilted her half-masked face slightly, her black-and-red hair catching the light – her expression unreadable.

’These guys... always hidden even when in the spotlight,’ she thought, shaking her head before glancing toward Morca.

But Morca simply closed his eyes briefly and reopened them without a change of expression.

’So, she was the one who protected me when I was down... the scent back then was hers.’ He fixed his mismatched gaze back to the screen, a faint gleam of determination surfacing in his crimson eye.

Laura studied him quietly. ’His calmness despite ranking third... worthy to be... a bound.’ She smiled faintly beneath her mask and returned her focus.

Inside, Morca accepted his rank without bitterness.

But another thought surfaced:’She wasn’t ranked first either... despite being that strong.’

His eyes shifted toward Jack Voidspace – the boy who still stood unmoving – and their gazes locked briefly.

For a fleeting moment, it felt as if the hall, the students, the very world around them – vanished – leaving only the three of them.

’Dormant strength... that blindfold isn’t just a decoration. If my dream was any clue...’

Morca’s thoughts sharpened. ’Power you have but can’t control is wasted power. I’ll cleave through it if needed.’

At the same time, Jack Voidspace mused silently: ’Back at Sherman Family Residence, they called him a one-eyed librarian fool. But now...’ His hidden eyes moved from Morca to Laura. ’These two... they’ll either ruin Eden or elevate it.’

The spark between them was brief – but heavy.

A small, meaningful smile appeared on Morca’s lips.

’Third place, huh... Good enough. For now.’

---

Far from the celebratory noise, in a luxurious secluded room atop the Southern Facilities Tower –

Principal Stuart di Milla sat confidently on a grand chair, facing a white-haired man garbed in muted gray robes lined with flowing black runes: Emmett Lee – though currently disguised as a minor instructor.

The soft breeze stirred Stuart’s trench coat as he rose and approached the window, arms folded behind his back.

The world around them was deathly still, as if even the air waited for their words.

Finally, Stuart asked – voice low and weighty: "Why," he said without looking back, "did you recommend Morca Sherman rank lower than expected?"

Emmett Lee smiled faintly, as if he had anticipated the question. His voice was soft but sharp beneath the surface.

"If a blade shines too brightly at first draw," he said, "it invites every eye – friend and foe alike. Let him sharpen unseen a little longer. A little humility will forge better steel."

Stuart remained silent, his gaze heavy over the bustling academy far below.

"And if the blade cuts too deep before it’s ready?" he murmured.

Emmett’s smile grew wider – but a hidden chill lurked in his tone.

"Then, Mr. Principal," he said, "we won’t blame the blade. We’ll blame the hand that swung it too soon."

Above them, in the distance, the Monument Tower pulsed faintly.

Almost as if agreeing.

Stuart turned his head slightly. "What about Jack ranking first? Any regrets?"

Emmett paused briefly before replying, his scholar-like posture unshaken.

"I would have preferred that girl lead – with her and Morca combined, they’d be unstoppable. But from the academy’s view, she’s too unpredictable, too mysterious. They’re playing safe..." He sighed. "As for Jack? He deserves it. But he hides too much... They’re all anomalies, Mr. Principal. Especially Jack Voidspace."

A shared silence fell between them.

---

Back in the welcoming hall–

The holographic screen shifted again.

Vice Principal Evans announced firmly:

Murmurs of awe rippled among the students.

The screen shifted again.

"You will report to your assigned class facilities tomorrow morning," Evans declared. "Evaluations will be given tonight."

He swept his gaze over the recruits.

"Remember – promotions are earned. Not given. Fail, and Eden will erase you from history without regret."

The heavy pressure returned.

Many swallowed nervously. Others clenched fists tighter.

Morca remained calm, already understanding: ’This is only the beginning.’

Evans then gestured toward the four instructors standing behind him.

"These are your respective Class Head Instructors."

---

As the ceremony reached its end, Morca stood among the departing crowd.

The lights brightened.

The ceremony was over.

---

Southern Courtyard – Late Evening

Morca wandered alone toward the quieter regions of the Southern Field Gardens. The stars shimmered overhead, distant and cold.

He sat beneath a silverwood tree, letting the evening breeze brush against his ink-black hair.

Suddenly – a soft systematic chime echoed in his mind.

He lifted his gaze toward the starlit sky.

In that distant firmament, unknown to the rest of the academy –

threads of destiny were already trembling.

And far beyond Eden...

the Abyss... and the Heavens... had begun to turn their eyes upon him.
