The Vampire King's Pet-Chapter 360: A Beast’s Plan
Yes, his shadows held her in place, but again, most of her body was liquid—which meant that it was far more malleable. Something he might not be able to fully stop if the monster was stronger than he already gave it credit for.
"Liora," Aira whispered. "...It’s me. You recognize me, don’t you?" she asked, walking closer to where Liora stood.
One of Liora’s eyes focused excitedly on Aira, something Aira immediately took as recognition.
She knows me.
"Please! If you—" she was still speaking when she gasped as she heard Liora speak, her voice too raw to sound like her usual self.
"Ai... Aira."
"Yes!" Aira gasped in glee, her eyes widening as she stepped closer. "...Yes! Yes, it’s me!"
A low crackle followed as Liora spoke again.
"...Aira! Aira!"
She called out repeatedly, and each time she did, Aira took more steps forward, a smile stretching across her face that she could barely keep away.
She glanced back at Zyren with visible relief, grinning from ear to ear. Zyren, however, simply stared at her with no emotion whatsoever in his red eyes. Not once did he lower his guard, his gaze tracing every part of the bloody monster.
"Aira, sister!" Liora called again.
Aira turned around to look at Zyren, her voice bright with hope.
"See? She recognizes—"
The words were still on her lips when the pool of blood where Liora’s hands should have been suddenly moved, morphing into a long spear.
It extended unnaturally fast—long enough to go straight through Aira.
It all happened too quickly. So quickly that if Zyren had so much as blinked or fluttered his lashes, he would have missed it.
He raised his hand instantly, coating Aira in his shadows, which formed a shield against her skin just as the bloody spear slammed into her body, throwing her backward.
It was a fall Zyren didn’t try to stop or cushion.
Still, he appeared beside her immediately, asking if she was fine. He wasn’t surprised to see her more stunned than wounded as she pushed herself off the ground, clearly unharmed except for a small scratch on her palm where she had scraped herself against a bit of blood.
"I’m... I’m fine," Aira managed to say in a strangled tone.
This time, Zyren felt the urge to do what he had often seen humans do—take a deep breath in and let it all out at once.
He cared about Aira more than he had previously thought. But he had also come to realize that caring about someone didn’t only mean caring about their physical well-being. Part of it was supporting stupid decisions and ideas—even when they were completely nonsensical—if it kept them in a better mental state.
Moreover, she was right.
He didn’t care about people dying. He truly didn’t. To him, people would always procreate, which meant that dying was just as important as being born.
Silently, he pulled her closer to himself as Aira buried her face in his chest. He lifted his head and spoke to the guards.
"Slice off her hands and legs and try to contain her in different boxes," he ordered. It was the only thing he could think of. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Barely had the words left his mouth when Liora, who had been mostly quiet, suddenly cried out loudly.
"Aira!! Sister!!! Don’t!!!" she screamed, her tone still largely inhuman.
"Don’t let him hurt me!" she begged.
From the bottom of his chest, Zyren was done.
He was fully aware that the Liora Aira knew had been dead for a long time.
Zyren turned instantly, placing his hands gently on Aira’s head as he spoke softly to her, urging her to return to the castle so they could speak there instead of continuing this in public—where panic was already beginning to set in.
New screams erupted from all corners as the guards raised their swords, ready to defend themselves.
Zygon Beasts began to appear one after the other, already transformed, leaping from rooftops and growling loudly to announce their presence.
What annoyed Zyren most was their numbers.
Clearly, the Zygons had chosen that exact moment to spread in large numbers throughout the vampire realm. Unlike the werewolf realm—where most of them had been killed—he had yet to eradicate them here.
One of them, much larger than normal, jumped down. Big, black, and ugly, with large wings at its back. Two others trailed behind it.
What annoyed Zyren even more was when they moved straight toward Liora.
A frown flickered across his features as the Zygon opened its mouth to speak, pointing at Aira.
"If you give her to us, then we’ll let you—"
He didn’t finish.
Zyren unleashed his shadow abilities in their entirety—far beyond anything he had shown in the werewolf kingdom.
He was pissed off. Annoyed that they continued to underestimate him simply because he refused to crush them completely.
All the Zygon beasts froze—including those on rooftops and those at a distance.
But barely had he done so when he noticed vampires and humans dashing toward him, morphing in the very next second.
It quickly became obvious that the Zygons were throwing everything they had into the attack—one clearly targeted at Aira.
Zyren froze their movements again as more and more figures rushed in from all sides.
At that moment, he could already understand the Zygon leaders’ thought process. Their actions were too deliberate to be random. They had seen how many people he could hold in the werewolf realm and were trying to replicate it.
His frown deepened as he struggled to see the point.
Even if he couldn’t use his shadows, he could still move freely. There was no way they could get to Aira or kill him.
They were strong individually.
But he was stronger than all of them.
His gaze darkened even as Aira’s eyes widened in shock struggling to understand what was going on as she looked around and realized that they were beyond surrounded and yet even more people were still approaching them and gradually turning into shape shifting beasts.
