Chapter 166 -4: Followers of the Great Mysterium Sect

Green’s guess was not wrong—people clump by nature, and things gather by kind. Although Komer did not subjectively intend to turn Ugru into a disorderly town, the reality was that the influx of a large number of immigrants from three lands, along with various scattered migrations of different races, made walking the streets of Ugru feel more like being in a town outside the realms of Mortals.

From Half-Beastmen to Elves, from Barbarians to Dwarves, it seemed every race could find its representative in the streets of Ugru, even the rarely seen Shark people could occasionally be seen, mysterious in their comings and goings, but the exotic treasures they brought from the sea caused quite a stir in Ugru.

With the entry of various races, people of different statuses also set foot on this land through various channels, and at this moment, Green’s companion Knight was fully focused on surveilling two unwelcome visitors.

The situation in Ugru had become much murkier over this period of time, at least in the eyes of Jep and Green, the two Thunderhorse Knights. The public order on the surface remained quite good, with the Lord’s Guard patrolling the area daily, effectively deterring any would-be troublemakers.

Seeing a Half-Beastman warrior clad in armor, helmet on head, wielding a Great Sword and a Long Spear and marching in precise steps down the Street, both new Immigrants and Indigenous People alike felt a change in Ugru compared to the past.

Ever since the arrival of Lord’s two friends at the Castle, individuals with strange attire and a strong aura of magic power began steadily entering Caucasus. In just a few days, Jep and Green had indirectly encountered several Magic Practitioners, who were at least on the level of Mages. Although these individuals tried hard to suppress the outflow of their magic breath, they could not escape the discerning eyes of the two Thunderhorse Knights.

Shrouded in a long black robe that entirely enveloped the body, with only the upper half of their faces exposed, and an ancient cord tied around the waist in a peculiar knot from which hung a pinkish-purple round metal coin—the attire could seem somewhat strange, but Mages have always been a bit different from ordinary people, so it wasn’t something to make a fuss over. However, the round metal coin was a rather clear identifier.

Without needing a close examination, Jep could tell that this was a follower of the Great Mysterium Sect, an active religious group in some extraordinary countries in the southern part of the Continent.

Having previously encountered followers of the Great Mysterium Sect in the territories of the Rosenborg Kingdom in the south, Jep had, to put it politely, crossed paths with them. In actuality, he had personally slain three devoted disciples of the sect.

According to the Church of Light’s deductions, the Great Mysterium Sect was likely a remnant of the former Dark Holy Church or originated from it. It was unclear why, after the Dark Holy Church had been destroyed for hundreds of years, this sect began to emerge in the south of the Blue Continent. Although these Dark Magic Practitioners could not yet compare to the Mages and Knights of the Church of Light, their demonstrated power had already shocked the Church. Fortunately, such phenomena were still rare in the northern part of the Continent.

Although he had previously encountered followers of the Great Mysterium Sect, the two guests dressed as Cultivators made Jep feel a chill run down his spine.

This sensation was peculiar, especially for Jep, who had mastered the Divine Magic of the Sky Eye to a significant degree, it was an uncommon feeling. A sinister aura seemed to seep into the depths of his heart, bringing with it a chill that made him extremely uncomfortable.

Almost instantly, Jep could determine that the two individuals before him were highly proficient Magic Practitioners, and their practices were certainly diametrically opposed to the Light Divine Technique he cultivated—they were practising Dark-based Divine Magic.

The unabashed aura emanating from the two angered Jep.

While the Knights of the Bright Holy Teaching did not, like the Religious Court’s judges, mercilessly destroy heretics who appeared within their sight, the fact that these Dark Cultivators openly revealed their identities in Caucasus—which is nominally under the Kingdom Territory of Nicosia—was undoubtedly a challenge to the authority of the Church of Light.

This was unacceptable. Despite sensing that the strangers possessed considerable power, Jep had no intention of letting them go.

“Please halt, gentlemen! I am Knight Jep of the Thunderhorse Knight Group of the Church of Light, and I have some questions for you,” said Jep as he stepped out, dispelling his invisibility spell and proudly appearing before the two Dark Sorcerers.

The strong presence of Light immediately put the two Dark Magicians on alert.

Such a brazen act of blocking their path and revealing his identity made it clear to any fool what it signified.

They had assumed they would pass unnoticed in this far-flung land of Caucasus, away from the emperor’s reach, yet unexpectedly they had encountered their adversaries. After exchanging a glance, the two Dark Sorcerers immediately sidestepped, adopting a defensive stance, their hands quickly retreating into the flowing sleeves of their black robes.

“Ha, Thunderhorse Knight, what instructions do you have for us?” the Dark Sorcerer on the left retorted rudely, his piercing gaze scanning the Thunderhorse Knight as if it were a bolt of lightning from the heavens.

“I presume you two are Cultivators of Dark Spells. I am not a judge from the Religious Court, but I must ask if by openly appearing on the territory of the Kingdom of Nicosia and flaunting your identities, do you intend to challenge the authority of our Church of Light?”
