The Vastness of Magical Destiny-Chapter 165 - 3 The Foxs Tail_2
Chapter 165: Chapter 3: The Fox’s Tail_2
Chapter 165 -3: The Fox’s Tail_2
Komer naturally wasn’t willing to risk dismantling the Magic Array lightly, and both Rebry and Solonberg were equally unwilling to make such a reckless move without certainty. It had become a consensus among the three to leave the research for later, and in the following search, they became even more excited, patient, and meticulous. Sadly, the search didn’t yield much of value, aside from some oil paintings and artworks stored in a secret chamber, which might be a great find for Komer, but were meaningless to Rebry and Solonberg.
Fortunately, the two areas under seal had already satisfied the Mage and Dark Knight. After all, this was just the initial search, the main aim of which was to exclude any potential hidden dangers. In the eyes of Rebry and Solonberg, the chilly presence that both Rebry and Komer had felt must have been a kind of aberration born from the Eye of Darkness, and its hideout must surely be in the underground world beneath the Castle. Today, it seemed docile, perhaps because it sensed the three intruders were not to be underestimated, and it too needed to observe to determine its strategy.
The first exploratory trip to Damarlinsk Castle thus ended without much fanfare. Although the three had varied gains, for Komer, the expedition was somewhat disappointing due to high expectations; there was hardly any danger, not much that was interesting or novel, and it seemed the Magic Arrays or magical seals couldn’t be deciphered by them just yet, leaving the occupation of Damarlinsk Castle still in question.
On the contrary, Rebry and Solonberg were enthusiastic, hoping to move in sooner and, with the arrival of some friends, eager to join the research work on the Castle situated above the Eye of Darkness.
The stir caused by the trio’s exploratory journey caught Komer off guard. Although they could conceal the upcoming expedition, Komer’s unique status meant his friends and subordinates could not help but worry about potential problems. They had already agreed that if they entered the Castle and no news came after three days, they would organize a team to force their way in to search.
Many opposed Komer’s reckless move, especially the new Immigrants who now relied on Komer. The appearance of Half-Beastmen and Barbarians in the territory made them feel that, as Mortals, having a strong Lord for support was essential for survival. They were decidedly against Komer’s knight-like adventures, although this did little to dissuade his plans.
The trio’s adventure soon caused a sensation in Ugru, with nearly everyone talking and paying close attention to the expedition, especially the Indigenous People who had lived there for decades or even generations. The legendary stories of the Castle were colorfully retold, bringing countless animated listeners to the Taverns and coffee shops.
Could it be that Damarlinsk Castle, deemed an inaccessible forbidden land, had been conquered by the Lord and his two friends? Although the residents of the Caucasus hadn’t yet fully accepted this reality, Puber, Neptune, and others used the publicity from this event to win the respect of the populace in the Caucasus Region once more.
For years, Damarlinsk Castle had become a source of fear in the Indigenous People’s hearts, even more than the threat of Barbarians. The new Immigrants were largely influenced by this sentiment, and Damarlinsk Castle had always been one of the main topics of discussion in Taverns and coffee shops. But now, it seemed the Castle lay prostrate under the feet of the Lord.
While Komer was still arguing with his friends and subordinates about whether to move into Damarlinsk Castle, the disheveled Mage and Dark Knight didn’t hesitate to move their sparse belongings into Damarlinsk Castle. For Rebry and Solonberg, this Castle was practically a natural Holy Land for the cultivation of the dark path, gifted by Hades, the god of darkness. To fail to make good use of it would be to incur the curse of Hades.
Though Komer didn’t immediately join Rebry and Solonberg in moving to Damarlinsk Castle, deep down he was extremely eager to join the two in delving into the mysteries of the Castle.
The interior of the Castle, especially the above-ground structures, posed no substantial danger, at least that’s what Komer thought. The real threat came from below. However, Komer found that deep within him, he held no fear towards those undead creatures that people regarded as phantoms. Perhaps it was the Dark Magic within him that had gradually saturated his mind and body with darkness, giving him an indescribable sense of familiarity and fondness for things associated with darkness.
Still, the recommendations of Puber and Hesse, among others, were quite important. After all, there was still a mysterious veil shrouding the Castle, and according to Komer’s own account, there was a high likelihood that undead creatures existed in the underground structures. While they had the protection of the Lord’s two friends, it was best to avoid any risks if possible.
They suggested it would be best for the Lord’s two friends to reside there for a period of time to observe and, once assured there was no significant danger, then the Lord could choose a time to move in. This suggestion also won the support of Ilot and Fran, for they too had felt the chilling aura of the Castle from outside and perceived it as a threat. For them, joining battle was not something to fear, but the idea of coming face-to-face with an inconceivable undead creature made them shiver despite themselves.
Green sat casually at the round table by the bar, lightly sipping from his glass. There was always a hint of melancholy on his handsome face, and the usually warm smile seemed to be less pronounced. His elegant and composed demeanor kept the Tavern customers instinctively at a distance. The flirtatious glances and smiles from the barmaids seemed to have no effect on Green, whose deep gaze stood out even in the dimly lit Tavern.
Jep hadn’t returned yet, which suggested that there was indeed something complex about that Castle. Aside from the initial sensation that something was amiss, he hadn’t detected anything of value on subsequent visits, as if it had vanished into thin air.
Green was filled with regret, wishing he had been bolder and joined Jep in secretly infiltrating the Castle to discover firsthand the oddities of this infamously mystical Castle in the Kingdom of Nicosia. The aura of the Thunderhorse Knights restricted his actions, and now, the Lord and his friends had returned from their exploration without finding anything of great value. Moreover, the Lord’s friends had even taken up residence in the Castle, much to Green’s prolonged dismay.
There was undoubtedly something amiss about the Castle, but as a Knight of the Church of Light, he could sense that besides the vanished chilling aura, the Castle’s location seemed to be a natural land of coldness. This natural chill was quite distinct from the initial coldness he had felt, which seemed more like the presence of a peculiarly powerful undead creature, filled with evil and sneakiness.
Living in such a cold land was only feasible for those who practiced special internal arts or Magic, unless they were protected by divine items of the Light or Fire nature. Otherwise, a long-term residence would inevitably harm the health of ordinary people. Considering the boldness of residing in the Castle, it seemed that the Lord’s friends must be confident, but Green was curious about what they relied on—was it a divine item, or an innate ability?
Green couldn’t help but let a faint smirk play across his lips; a fox always shows its tail in the end. Although the Lord’s two friends could also be practitioners of Ice Magic, which would allow them to live there, Green thought this possibility was fairly slim.
Birds of a feather flock together. If he could confirm that these two were Dark practitioners of Dark Magic, then Green could ascertain that the Lord was the very target the Corps Commander had been seeking, albeit this fellow was much better at concealing himself, able to perform so naturally in front of him.
