Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Nathan Lynch Gets Heatstroke

"Mona!"

Renee Jennings cried out, quickly catching Nathan Lynch’s body in her arms.

A pang of heartache mixed with the fear of being flamed by netizens, and Renee Jennings burst into tears.

"Son, please wake up!"

The scene descended into chaos. The accompanying medical team quickly ran over with their first-aid kit, moved Nathan Lynch to a shady spot, and unbuttoned his clothes to help him cool down.

Despite having directed many shows, he had almost never had a guest faint on set. And this was just a six-year-old child. The director couldn’t stay seated and hurriedly got up to check on the situation.

"How is he, Doctor? Is my son okay?" Renee Jennings asked.

"It’s heatstroke." After finishing his examination and administering first aid, the doctor got Nathan Lynch to open his eyes with a slight cough. The boy’s eyes were filled with confusion, not understanding why so many people were surrounding him.

"Mama, what happened to me?"

Renee Jennings immediately hugged Nathan Lynch. "You scared me to death, Mona..."

"Don’t cry, Mama..."

After this incident, to ensure Nathan Lynch’s safety, the production team quickly arranged to send Renee Jennings and her son back to Veridia.

Naomi Kenway returned to the earthen hut to pack her things, then led her son out of the house by the hand.

"Wait!" Ian Shaw seemed to remember something and scurried back inside on his short legs.

Naomi Kenway waited outside. Just as she was wondering what her son was up to, Ian Shaw came out hugging a small wooden sword.

A smile filled her face as she asked softly, "Why did you bring this out too?"

"This is a gift from Mom. I can’t ever lose it!" Ian Shaw said firmly, tucking the little wooden sword into his shirt as if it were a priceless treasure.

Naomi Kenway freed a hand to ruffle Ian Shaw’s hair. "We’re leaving this place now."

Ian Shaw glanced back reluctantly. "Will we ever come back here, Mom?"

"Are you sad to leave?"

Ian Shaw nodded. ’There’s never been a place where Mom has been this nice to me.’

"As long as you want to, we can definitely come back for a visit when we have the chance."

Only then did Ian Shaw look away, letting Naomi Kenway lead him out of House No. 5.

A private car had been arranged, and the vehicle provided by the production team was already waiting at the end of the street. As Naomi Kenway walked over with her son, they ran into several familiar faces—neighbors who had been very kind to them, as well as the carpenter and his wife who had helped them on their first day.

Naomi Kenway didn’t know if this was arranged by the production team, but a warm feeling washed over her. Before her "awakening," all she had ever felt from people in her circle was cold mockery. This small, unassuming village, by contrast, was the first place to show her genuine warmth.

After saying goodbye to each of them, Naomi Kenway got into the car with Ian Shaw.

"Have you guys been watching that super popular variety show? The first episode is already over so fast, I haven’t had enough!"

"That Naomi Kenway has changed so much. Do you think she’s just putting on an act for her image?"

"And didn’t a kid faint from heatstroke at the end? That mom is so careless..."

Several employees were gossiping when they suddenly clammed up, quickly walking away to return to their respective departments.

Ethan Shaw stopped in his tracks. His dark eyes were deep and intense as he asked Liam Sherman beside him, "What was that about someone fainting? Did Annie faint?"

"No, President Shaw." Liam Sherman adjusted his glasses. "While you were in the meeting, I was monitoring the livestream on Madam’s end. The child who fainted belonged to another guest on the show, not the young master."

Only then did Ethan Shaw relax, striding toward the elevators on his long legs.

"Madam has indeed changed a great deal. She took very good care of the young master."

Ethan Shaw turned a scrutinizing gaze on Liam Sherman. "Is that so?"

The elevator’s display changed continuously, soon flashing to the 23rd floor.

Ethan Shaw was the first to step out. "I recall those employees saying this episode is over?"

Liam Sherman followed behind him. "Yes, Madam and the others are already on their way back. Barring any surprises, they should arrive in Veridia in an hour. President Shaw, are you planning to go see them?"

Ethan Shaw lowered his gaze, saying nothing.

Returning to the manor meant the filming was over. Naomi Kenway instantly felt much more relaxed; she had always been more or less uncomfortable in front of the camera.

Naomi Kenway had a notoriously bad temper, and the maid’s hands trembled slightly as she served her tea.

Changing the impression everyone had of her wasn’t something that could be done overnight. Naomi Kenway paid the maid no mind and took the tea.

Realizing she hadn’t been scolded, the maid found it a bit incredible. She lowered her gaze and snuck several glances at Naomi Kenway before finally leaving the hall.

Naomi Kenway sipped her tea. The air conditioning was on in the house, and the frustrating heat was finally gone.

Ian Shaw had gone upstairs to change his clothes and hadn’t come down yet. Naomi Kenway put down her teacup and asked the butler beside her, "Hasn’t Annie come down yet?"

The butler shook his head. "Madam, I’ll go up and check."

"No need. I’ll go myself."

She went up to the third floor. The easternmost room was Ian Shaw’s. Her own room was on the second floor, a long way from his. This was because her "previous self" had found children noisy and annoying. Now that she had awakened, she certainly didn’t think that way anymore. ’I’ll have to move my son to the second floor later,’ she thought.

Naomi Kenway opened the door, only to be met with a sight that made her see red.

A male servant was impatiently dressing Ian Shaw, muttering curses under his breath. He even raised his hand as if to strike the boy.

"What do you think you’re doing?!" Naomi Kenway slammed the door open and kicked the servant. "Who gave you the right to hit my son? Are you looking to die?!"

One kick wasn’t enough to vent her anger, so she kicked him viciously several more times. If she weren’t afraid the bloody scene would frighten Ian Shaw, Naomi Kenway would have grabbed the vase from the table and smashed it over this wretched insect’s head.

The premonition of her son jumping from a building had always been a thorn in her side. Death had become a terrifying word; the slightest brush with it made her hypersensitive.

No one was allowed to bully her son. No one!!

The servant didn’t dare fight back, only cowering with his head in his hands and begging for mercy. Naomi Kenway’s kicks were surprisingly strong, and he wailed in pain, unable to believe she had suddenly burst in.

Normally, Naomi Kenway was cold and dismissive toward her son, sometimes even making Ian Shaw wait on her. Although Ian Shaw had an extremely high IQ, he was uncommunicative, as if he had autism. In places where no one was watching, the servant’s respectful attitude would curdle into something much uglier.

The commotion was so loud that the butler and other staff rushed upstairs. When they saw Naomi Kenway holding a vase with a murderous look on her face while the male servant begged for his life, the butler assumed it was another scene of the "tyrannical master" brutally beating a servant.

The butler tried to snatch the vase from Naomi Kenway’s hand, repeatedly shouting, "Calm down, Madam, calm down!!"
