The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 339: Leaving in Disgrace
Anxiously, Lucy Summers jabbed Nathaniel’s arm. "Quick, apologize to Mrs. Shaw properly."
Nathaniel bowed his head, his expression humble and, upon closer inspection, rather pathetic. "I am truly sorry, President Shaw, Mrs. Shaw. It’s all my fault for being so blind and failing to recognize your importance. I spent the entire trip here reflecting on my behavior."
His face filled with remorse. "It was all because I listened to Renee Jennings’s nonsense. She has it out for Mrs. Shaw, so she put me up to causing trouble. I... I wasn’t thinking straight!"
At the mention of Renee Jennings, a look of disgust crossed Lucy Summers’s face. She scolded Nathaniel, "You’re just too much of a pushover, Nathaniel, that’s how she tricked you. None of this would have happened if it weren’t for her! When you get back, you need to teach her a lesson she won’t forget. And you need to wise up, too. Stop letting her use you as her pawn..."
Naomi Kenway watched their performance, finding it utterly laughable. ’Nathaniel is unbelievably hypocritical,’ she thought. ’Even now, he’s trying to push all the blame onto Renee Jennings. Renee might be disgusting, but he’s no better.’
Nathaniel stole a glance at Naomi Kenway, trying to gauge her reaction. When he saw the corner of her mouth twitch into a slight smile, he couldn’t decipher her attitude, and a flicker of anxiety crossed his face.
"Mrs. Shaw, I... It’s all my fault. I don’t know what came over me. Please, just forgive me..."
Naomi Kenway looked at him. "Mr. Lynch, you’re making me blush. An apology? Why would you apologize? It was you, Mr. Lynch, who didn’t take us seriously. How could we possibly dare to be angry with you?"
The color drained from Nathaniel’s face.
"Butler, see our guests out!" Naomi Kenway called out.
Nathaniel and Lucy Summers left the estate in disgrace.
Lucy Summers sighed. "I didn’t realize this would be so tricky." Her gaze fell on Nathaniel, a hint of accusation in her eyes. "Didn’t you say it was just a minor argument? It certainly didn’t look that way to me. You begged for so long, and they still refused to forgive you. Well, this is just great. Not only did we fail to get their forgiveness, but you’ve also torpedoed the business deal. Tell me, what was the point of me even coming along?"
A guilty expression crossed Nathaniel’s face. He knew Lucy had always looked down on him; she was only here because his older brother had ordered her to come.
Although he felt utterly humiliated, Nathaniel tried to sound tough. He followed Lucy into the car and slammed the door. "Look at them, acting so high and mighty! I show them a little respect and they start putting on airs. I already humbled myself and apologized, but they’re still not satisfied. Acting so smug... they’ll run their family into the ground sooner or later." Nathaniel cursed, "I hope the Shaw Family goes bankrupt tomorrow..."
Gripping the steering wheel, Lucy Summers shot Nathaniel a complicated look.
Nathaniel tried to console her. "It’s fine, Lucy. If they want to pull out of the deal, let them. The Lynch Family can survive without them."
"The project requires specific technological R&D. Besides the Shaw Family, there are probably only a handful of companies in all of Veridia that have that technology. And even if there are, why would they risk offending the Shaw Family to cooperate with us? To put it another way, as the leading family in Veridia, the Shaws can do whatever they want with ease. The Lynch Family doesn’t have that luxury."
Lucy’s calm words effortlessly shattered Nathaniel’s wishful thinking.
Nathaniel fell silent. Noticing the dark look on Lucy’s face, he grew even more flustered.
"Then... then what are we going to do...?"
Lucy let out a short, mirthless laugh. "The deal was still on the table at first. They never took your little squabble seriously. It was us showing up on their doorstep again that must have annoyed them, and now..."
"What are we going to do? Lucy, you have to help me! My brother will kill me if he finds out!"
The sight of his spineless, helpless demeanor made her temper flare. "He’s not going to kill you, but he will be furious. You call him and explain the situation. The rest is out of my hands."
Nathaniel felt for the phone in his pocket, his brow furrowed in a deep frown.
Lucy knew he didn’t want to make the call, so she didn’t press him.
Suddenly, his phone began to ring. Nathaniel pulled it out and looked at the screen. It was his older brother...
*
When Nathaniel got home, he flew into a rage, smashing everything he could get his hands on in the living room. He retained just enough sense, however, to destroy only the worthless decorative pieces. He wouldn’t dare lay a finger on the antique vases or calligraphy scrolls.
The living room filled with the sound of CRASHING and SMASHING. The maid, Jan, stood silently, not daring to utter a word for fear of getting caught in the crossfire.
After he was done, Nathaniel collapsed onto the sofa, panting. His hair was disheveled and slick with sweat; he looked like a complete mess.
"Damn you all! Damn you all to hell! Why does everyone take their anger out on me? Do you think I’m your fucking punching bag?! Animals! You’re all goddamn animals! Go to hell!!"
He screamed the curses over and over.
"I’ll make you all pay... That’s right, I’ll make you pay..." His eyes were bloodshot as he roared, "Get me a drink!"
Renee Jennings descended the stairs, her hand on the wooden banister. She was stunned to see the living room in complete disarray. She walked toward him. "Have you lost your mind, Nathaniel...?"
Nathaniel looked up at her and let out a sinister laugh.
A chill ran down Renee’s spine. Only then did she notice the clear, red handprint on Nathaniel’s face.
"Who hit you?"
"Shut your mouth, you bitch!"
Renee Jennings sneered. "Looks to me like you got slapped more than once. You act like a meek little grandson out there, but you come home and play the big bad ancestor. You’ve really perfected being a tyrant at home and a coward everywhere else, haven’t you, Nathaniel? You’re pathetic."
One of her words must have struck a nerve, because he lunged at Renee, his hands reaching for her throat. Fortunately, the maid intervened just in time to stop him.
"It’s all your fault!" Nathaniel collapsed onto the sofa again, as if all his strength had abandoned him. "It’s all because of you, you bitch! None of this would be happening if it weren’t for you..."
Renee stood to the side, looking down on him with a scornful expression.
’If she had held any illusions about Nathaniel before, they were completely shattered now that she had learned of his infidelity. She was utterly disappointed in him.’
"You’re the real piece of work here," she retorted. "If you could’ve just kept it in your pants, none of this would be happening..."
At her words, Nathaniel suddenly burst out laughing, a laugh that slowly turned into tears.
’It was the first time his older brother had ever berated him like that. Two hard slaps across the face. He felt ashamed, yet completely helpless.’
’When he really thought about it, all his misery had started from the moment he began the affair with Renee Jennings.’
’This was an affair, just like the last one, but he couldn’t just kick Renee Jennings out with nothing, the way he had with Victor Vance. Renee knew too many of his secrets; she was dangerously difficult to handle...’
’Ordinary methods wouldn’t be enough to get rid of Renee...’
A cold glint appeared in Nathaniel’s eyes.
Watching the drama unfold from the sidelines, Renee suddenly shivered for no apparent reason.
The pitter-patter of small feet came from the staircase. Nathan Lynch ran down, a nanny trailing behind him.
Nathan Lynch ran over and stopped in front of Renee Jennings. "Where’s my teddy bear?! What did you do with my little bear?!"
Renee turned her head away. "I have no idea what you’re talking about."
