The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 52: The Great Change of the Grymdale Tribe
When Evangeline stood firm on Thorncliff, she saw the White Fox leap out and vanish from sight in an instant.
She lowered her gaze to her flat stomach and murmured, "Well, little one, I’m a single mom now."
Evangeline didn’t try to stop him. She knew that for Caden Albright, "Evangeline" was a poison thorn lodged in his very flesh and blood. If he couldn’t carve out the rot with his own hands, the wound would fester forever.
He had to witness the Oasis Tribe’s destruction and kill "Evangeline" with his own hands before he could move on with his life.
Besides, as a Fallen Beastman, leaving Thorncliff wasn’t necessarily a good thing for him.
He didn’t want to involve her.
’Still, that fox... he didn’t even say a proper goodbye.’
Evangeline gazed at the thick fog still blanketing Thorncliff. The past half-month felt like a dream.
Without further hesitation, she clutched the Thunder Beast Crystal in her hand and turned away from Thorncliff.
Not long after Evangeline left, a massive white fox emerged from the woods. Its fluffy tail hung low, sweeping the ground. Its amber Beast Eyes stared in the direction she had gone for a long, long time.
Only when the mountain wind had carried away the last wisp of her scent did the White Fox finally turn back into the forest and disappear.
*
It was already dark when Evangeline returned to the Grymdale Tribe.
But as she drew near, her brow tightened as she sensed the scent of blood lingering in the air.
’Did something happen to the Grymdale Tribe?’
With a light tap of her toes, Evangeline shot into the tribe. The normally strict sentry posts were eerily silent.
The moment she stepped into the tribe, the stench of blood grew so thick it felt almost tangible, sticking in her throat. She fought back a wave of nausea. Suddenly, a violent gust of wind swept toward her, its ferocious power threatening to snap her in two at the waist.
Evangeline floated back several meters, dodging the attack.
Where she had just been standing, the ground was now fractured with spiderweb-like cracks.
She narrowed her eyes at the shadows. A HISSING sound emanated from them, accompanied by the noise of something massive slithering about. The flickering moonlight revealed a section of a yellow, scaly tail glinting coldly.
Immediately after, a pair of savage Beast Eyes appeared in the gloom, and Evangeline watched as a thick giant python slithered out.
Her eyes flickered as she glanced at the center of the python’s forehead. There was a triangular Star Pattern there.
’It’s a beastman from the Grymdale Tribe.’
But not only had this beastman transformed into his beast form, his Beast Eyes showed no trace of clarity. They were filled with nothing but chaotic bloodlust and savagery. He had even lost his intelligence, acting like a Wild Beast with only the most primal instinct to hunt.
With a flick of her wrist, Evangeline unhesitatingly lashed out at the giant python with her Ice Frost Long Whip.
As the tip of the whip swept past, fine ice crystals exploded in the air. The jet of water spewing from the python’s mouth froze in an instant.
CRACK! The long whip struck the python’s body, sending scales flying.
The giant python let out a piercing hiss and thrashed its massive body wildly on the ground, leaving behind a trail of blood. Driven by an instinct for self-preservation, it dragged its battered form into the darkness in the blink of an eye, leaving only a few blood-stained broken scales behind.
He was a Grymdale Tribe beastman, after all. Though she didn’t know why he had transformed, Evangeline hadn’t dealt a fatal blow.
She retracted her long whip and darted toward Thorne’s cave.
The moment she entered Thorne’s dwelling, her ears were filled with a bloodcurdling HISSING sound.
The layered, overlapping sound was accompanied by the slithering of countless slick, giant bodies on the ground. The grating of their scales scraping against each other was like a dull knife grinding on one’s nerves.
Evangeline’s brow furrowed, and she walked deeper into the cave.
The cave walls were covered in slimy, winding trails. The glistening liquid was stained with blood and snake scales.
A moment later, a sight made Evangeline’s pupils contract. Her lips tightened as she took a step back.
It wasn’t out of fear, but disgust.
Inside the cave, countless giant pythons of various colors were tangled together, forming a nauseating mountain of flesh.
A few partially digested beastman skeletons were coiled around the pile, with blood still seeping from the white bones.
As Evangeline watched, her stomach suddenly convulsed, and the bitter taste of bile rose in her throat.
She turned and left the cave. The outside air was a welcome relief, but the calamity that had befallen the Grymdale Tribe weighed heavily on her. Those tangled, colorful pythons in the cave were all beastmen.
However, she was certain Thorne wasn’t dead. Otherwise, her mission would have already been declared a failure.
Evangeline searched around the Grymdale Tribe again but didn’t find a single other beastman.
She bit her lip and hesitantly took out the antidote for the Disguise Pill.
’Perhaps the only way to find Thorne is to revert to my appearance as Evangeline and use the Contract Mark.’
’But the Disguise Pill is so unpredictable. If I take the antidote, the person "Flora" will cease to exist on the Beastman Continent. How would I regain Thorne’s trust then? And how could I wait for Caden Albright to return?’
Evangeline’s fingers paused as she suddenly heard the scattered sound of footsteps outside the tribe.
Her gaze sharpened. In an instant, she put away the vial, her figure flitting like a swallow toward the source of the sound. Rounding a corner of the tribe, she saw several unfamiliar figures holding bone knives.
Evangeline half-closed her eyes. Instead of hiding, she went straight toward them!
Hearing the movement, the group’s expressions changed at once. When they saw it was a female, one of them asked in confusion, "How is there still a female in the Grymdale Tribe? Weren’t they all taken back?"
Evangeline stared at them blankly. "Who are you people? What happened to the Grymdale Tribe?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Her audacity made the beastmen look at each other in surprise. Suddenly, they broke into wide, mocking grins. "She’s asking us what happened to the Grymdale Tribe? Hahaha—"
"I don’t have time to waste on you!" A sharp glint flashed in Evangeline’s eyes as her long whip shot through the air.
The beastman who had spoken was sent flying backward, a look of astonishment frozen on his face.
The next moment, he was sent crashing into a large tree outside the tribe, snapping it in half!
Before the other beastmen could react, the long whip was raised again. Where the whip passed, the air itself condensed into fine ice crystals.
The beastmen fell to the ground, wailing. Evangeline stepped forward and said coldly, "Answer me if you don’t want to die."
The beastmen coughed up blood. Evangeline’s decisive methods terrified them, and they dared not resist any longer.
"What happened to the Grymdale Tribe?"
"...The Grymdale Tribe annexed the Midridge Tribe, but the Midridge Tribe’s leader, Heavy Armor, only pretended to surrender. In reality... in reality, he joined forces with our Monitor Tribe and poisoned the Grymdale Tribe’s Snake Beastman water source with Viper Saliva!"
The beastman who spoke coughed up bloody foam, his arm uncontrollably transforming into a scaly lizard claw.
"Viper Saliva?" Evangeline’s eyes suddenly tightened, the light in them colder than a sword’s blade.
The beastman swallowed hard. "It’s, it’s something that makes Snake Beastmen lose their intelligence."
Evangeline tightened her grip on her long whip. "Is Thorne of the Grymdale Tribe also in your hands?"
The beastman froze for a second. "...Thorne? You mean the one who had his Beast Crystal dug out?"
The beastman struggled to prop himself up. "Thorne didn’t drink from the tribe’s water source. The member of the Wyvern Clan who was with him helped him escape. A few others from the Grymdale Tribe also escaped. Our leader has us patrolling day and night to see if they’ll return to the tribe."
Evangeline half-closed her eyes and pondered for a moment. "The Viper Saliva, is there a cure?"
The beastmen looked bitter. "That was created by our tribe’s Witch. It’s infused with our Monitor Lizards’ poison glands and specifically designed to counter Snake Beastmen. How would mere patrolmen like us know the cure?"
Lizards prey on snakes; it’s a natural rivalry.
"Who from the Grymdale Tribe escaped? Was their Female Leader, Lana, among them?"
Danton’s tail scales were still in Lana’s possession.
