Chapter 24: Genesis

’Do I have no choice?’

He hesitated, his mind clouding with contemplation. He had a powerful trump card prepared specially for this dungeon, which cost him a lot of money. He could use it now, but that would completely spoil his entire plan. The card was a key element in acquiring the Orb of Elementus, and he felt that losing such an item would drastically decrease his chances.

"Shit!" He winced, his face contorted in pain. The sword had almost emptied all the blood within his body, even he didn’t know how he was still alive. His entire body felt weak and powerless.

"I don’t care anymore, Fuck it!’ The hesitation within his face swept away by the pain and was replaced with resolve. Gritting his teeth, he channeled his mana on his ring, swiftly taking out the trump card.

His body had gone past the critical condition and was edging toward death. The skin was deathly pale, sight too blurry even to focus, cheeks sunken hollow and bones creaked, showing signs of imbalance.

The moment, his hand held the trump card, a shocking revelation spread through his body.

The sword stopped its absorption and shuddered lightly, its dense bloody aura covering the entirety of Cassian’s body. A reddish light reflected from within the sword’s blade, falling down on his dried up body. The light gently pierced through his skin and dissolved itself inside, forming new droplets of blood.

It felt warm and fuzzy, like he was sleeping peacefully on his mother’s lap. He slowly felt the blood returning within his body, with something unknown mixed inside it.

"A coincidence?" He thought, his eyes wondering briefly between the sword in one hand and his trump card within the other. He was just about to use the artifact when the blood absorption was reversed and his body started healing itself.

He fiddled with the artifact, pondering on whether to use it or not. He had no idea what this glass sword was, and if it was a useful or a harmful item. Until now, it wasn’t showing any sign of usefulness.

hmmm...

A rough voice shot inside his head, startling him. He hurriedly turned around, and started looking for the source of the voice.

"Where are you looking, Brat! You’re already holding me." The voice replied, now sounding more in-tune and understandable. It sounded a lot like a rough, middle-aged man with some wife problems in his life.

"Shut up! I’m not even married yet." He scolded, his voice thundering inside Cassian’s head.

"Who are you? What are you doing inside my head?" He asked, his gaze piercing through the sword. He had a guess before, but now he was sure, this sword held some unknown origin.

"Ahem... Allow me to introduce myself, I am the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇! The Master of ▇▇▇▇!" It replied proudly, as if educating a little kid.

What it didn’t know was most of the words that came up from its mouth were either uncomprehensible or inaudible to Cassian’s ears. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"Who? I can’t hear you."

The voice stayed silent after hearing his words. The silence lasted for a minute until he coughed lightly, thinking of some solutions.

"You can just call me Genesis for now,"Genesis spoke with annoyance. It could naturally understand why Cassian wasn’t able to hear his original name.

"Genesis, Why are you inside my head?" Cassian asked, his brows furrowed in frustration. Having a random voice talking inside your head was quite irritating and he didn’t like it.

"You’ve bonded with me."

"Bond? What do you mean?" He grew confused upon hearing those words.

When did he do that?

"Could it be?" He quickly thought of the unusual phenomenon from before.

"Yes, you’re right. The blood absorption was a ceremony required in order to bond with me. Now that you’ve completed the ceremony, you’ve acquired the right to wield the mighty me, The Saint Sword, Genesis."

"So, are you stuck inside my head forever?" He frowned. If he really was stuck with this voice, then he might have to destroy this sword instead. He valued his sanity over some kind of otherworldly treasures.

"Uhh..no. I can appear before you in my spirit form. Why? Wanna see it?" Genesis asked, sounding quite excited.

"Sure," Cassian replied, uninterested in its shenanigans.

"Brace yourself."

woosh

The glass sword stuck on his hand, vibrated slightly and released a black smoke, slowly covering its entire body. The black smoke seemed to have awakened something deep within the sword, causing something to form on it. A crimson red gem slowly condensed itself from within the sword’s hilt and fixated right beneath the blade. The gem was mesmerizing, shaped perfectly like a circle, it shimmered faintly with red light—radiating an enchanting energy from within.

From the gem emerged a tiny figure draped in a crimson cloak, glaring at Cassian’s face with its haunting purple eyes. Its upper half of the body was almost naked, covered only by the cloak, meanwhile, its lower half was different from humans. Rather than legs, it was floating above the ground with smoke particles covering its lower half.

"It’s like a jinn." He commented, finding the similarities between these two. The figure slowly rose from the ground and stopped right before his eyes.

"What do you think?" He asked, grinning ear to ear. It’s been a while since he had appeared before someone in his spirit form. The spirit form consumed a lot of his energy and maintaining it was a haunting task. He had only appeared now, after linking successfully with Cassian.

"You are...tiny," Cassian replied, after thinking for a while. He was speaking the truth as Genesis was almost the size of his palm.

"Hold on. Why does your voice sound familiar? It feels as if I’ve heard it somewhere." He narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Genesis deeply. ’This voice....Where have I heard?...’

Genesis was sweating profusely under his intense gaze. He knew where Cassian was getting at and that’s what shocked him. ’I had deliberately changed my voice to something unrecognizable and even after that, he could notice something. This kid is smart and extremely perceptive.’

He swiftly changed the subject and started introducing himself, "I’m the weapon spirit named after the sword you’re currently holding, Genesis."
