The Void's System-Chapter 106: Under the Same Sky
Chapter 106 - Under the Same Sky
The wind drifted gently over the rooftops of Lumina Academy, carrying the scent of twilight and distant flowers. Zane stood silently at the edge of a tower balcony, gazing out over the horizon. Beside him, Nyx floated in a lazy circle.
"Found her," Nyx finally said, his voice lower than usual. "North ridge. Same place she always flies to when she needs to clear her head."
Zane didn't hesitate. With a pulse of shadow, he vanished.
---
The rocky slope overlooking the academy was quiet, bathed in fading sunlight. Sera sat alone near the edge, her wings folded and knees pulled to her chest. Her eyes watched the sky without really seeing it.
Zane approached quietly, stopping just behind her.
"You always do this," he said softly. "Run where the sky can listen."
Sera didn't turn. "It doesn't ask questions. It doesn't choose sides."
"I'm not choosing sides either," he replied, easing down to sit beside her. "I just... didn't want you to lose yourself in a fight that wasn't about winning."
Sera gave a humorless laugh. "You think I fought because of her?"
"No," Zane said. "You fought because of me."
That quieted her.
"I was glad you didn't use Sky Dream," he continued. "Not because I cared about Valerie getting hurt... but because if you had gone all out, you might've scared even yourself. And you don't deserve to be seen as a monster when you're trying to protect something."
Sera looked at him, eyes narrowed. "So you do care about what happens to her."
Zane met her gaze. "I care about what happens to you."
She looked away, lips pressed tightly together.
"I don't want to feel like I'm in some competition, Zane," she whispered. "I don't want to wonder if I'm enough for you. If I matter."
"You do," Zane said instantly.
Sera's voice shook. "Then show me."
He reached for her hand, hesitating just a moment before taking it gently.
"I came all the way out here," he said. "Because no matter how far you fly, you'll always matter to me. You're not just enough. You're everything."
Her eyes widened. And then, for once, no words were needed.
Sera leaned forward. Zane met her halfway.
Their lips met softly at first—uncertain, tentative—but the moment lingered, growing deeper as emotion poured through it. The wind stilled, and even the shadows seemed to pause.
When they finally pulled away, Sera's cheeks were pink, her eyes locked on his. "You're really bad at handling drama, you know that?"
Zane smiled. "Guess I'll have to rely on you for that."
Up above, Nyx slowly drifted backward, arms crossed, a smug grin on his face. "Well, well, well. Finally. Took you both long enough. That's one kiss closer to a love triangle I can monetize."
They both glared at him, but neither said a word. Their hands were still entwined.
And for once... things felt right.
