"Let's go." Caishen told her.

Alix was absent-minded, calculating the amount of money in the envelope.

"Huh!" She answered.

"Don't you want a red envelope?" He asked her.

Alix stood up immediately and smiled. A red envelope from the elder; of course she wanted it. Even if it wasn't money it had to be a good thing.

She received her envelope just like everyone else and she bowed. Her itchy hands were eager to unseal it and spill the contents but she noticed that nobody had touched theirs so she waited patiently.

It seemed like they were all waiting for a specific signal to unsealed them.

Xiaobo was the last to receive his and he shook his comically, as if he was expecting to hear something shaking from within.

A few people in the room chuckled.

The moment the briefcase was shut, the unsealing started and Alix too ripped hers open eagerly.

Someone squealed and she looked up. It was one of Caishen's female cousins from the second branch. Zhang Lexian. She was actually a nice person, one of the few that had spared a genuine smile for Alix and actually greeted her at the temple.

"Grandfather, these are shares in Jiangnan oil and gas company." She said, in shock.

"Me too, I have the same thing." Another female cousin said.

Alix pulled out the papers in her own envelope and her eyes quickly perused through the written document. She had received two percent shares in Jiangnan oil and gas company.

"All the women of our family have received the same thing. Our family tradition does not allow for shares of our family to be passed to the women but it doesn't forbid us from enriching you in other ways." The elder told them.

It was not the first time that they were receiving shares here and there acquired from other companies. But still, they were all excited.

This tradition was started by elder Zhang to ease the dissatisfaction among the females of their family. As long as they had their own money and assets the family would remain harmonious.

The men had received cheques, it seemed. Most of them were holding the up, folding them or smiling.

"Five million for each of the men." The system told Alix.

"Ho!!" She responded to it.

She had been wrong about that fifty thousand, it was five million. And here she was thinking that it was an ordinary family lunch but money was being distributed.

"Thank you great grandpa." Xiaobo in his sweet voice said.

His words served as a reminder to the rest about what they had forgotten. A round of random words of gratefulness came from every table.

"I will save this for you." Zhang Bo grabbed the cheque from Xiaobo's hands.

"Great grandfather." Xiaobo whined. He turned his eyes to the elder for help.

"Give it back." Grandma Zhang told him.

Zhang Bo handed the check back to his son and Xiaobo stood up and walked over to Alix.

"Aunt, save this for me."

Zhang Bo raised his hand and pointed to Xiaobo, his face filled with utter disbelief. How could his son not trust him but trusted Alix who was new in the family?

"Ha-ha-ha, it seems like Xiaobo likes his new aunt very much." The second elder said.

"They say children always know good people from the heart. Congratulations brother for choosing the right wife for Caishen." The third elder added.

All three elders picked up their glasses and raised them, toasting to this fact with fulfilled smiles on their faces.

"Brothers-in-law, you are all too far. Such happy news needs the glasses to chime and reverberate loudly. Our Xi Xi is indeed the best choice of a wife. Don't you see how filled with life our Caishen is?" Grandma Zhang asked them.

The two elders laughed and came closer as she suggested. A loud round of cheers followed as their wine glasses came together. From there, they came over to Alix, to toast with her.

She picked up her juice glass, and touched it against each of theirs gently.

"Congratulations on your marriage. We wish you many years of happiness." They both told her, one at a time.

Other relatives were clever and they followed the lead of their elders. They expressed their best wishes and congratulated the newly wed couple.

"Aunt, me too. Let's do the toast. " Xiaobo held his glass which had juice like Alix's.

She of course indulged him and he went off to Caishen to do the same.

"We should eat." grandpa Zhang said.

Plates, forks, spoons and chop sticks started to move eagerly.

Grandma Zhang looked at the servers and called them so that they could start on the job of catering to the guests. Different foods were served, all matching the personal taste of everyone. Alix, for example had received a big serving of that honey walnut shrimp which she loved so much.

While they were eating, a photographer that Alix had not seen entering the room took a picture of her. Of everyone in the room, she was eating with the most gusto.

She frowned at the photographer and covered half of her face. She looked at Caishen and whispered, "Someone is taking pictures."

Caishen laughed and told her, "It's okay, it's for the family album. We do it every year on the special occasions, like the annual lunch, memorial day

"First elder are we doing the annual business idea competition?" someone asked.

Grandpa Zhang looked up and nodded. He sat upright and replied, "Of course, it's another family tradition which we observe. As always, the best idea wins an investment of five hundred million."

A round of applause and cheers went around.

"Remember that only those forty and below can participate." he reminded them.

"Oooh," a sad voice mixed in with the cheerful ones.

"Everyone, please drop out so that I can win this year. I have a team which is researching long lasting anti radioactive batteries and I have been assured that we will have positive results in one year. I need the investment." Zhang Ailun said.

Others laughed and his sister Zhang Lexian also announced boldly.

"Sorry, this years prize is mine. Not only do I have a business idea but my partners and I have started the actual business. The five hundred million investment is obviously mine because I have been preparing for it all year."

A few people actually applauded her while some booed. The adults were happy to see that the young ones were very focused. If this fire continued to burn, the Zhang family would be the richest in the country someday.

Alix, unlike the others was shocked, again. Rich people really lived in an entirely different world from the rest of them. Who had five hundred million to give out every year? That was a lot of money, a whole billion in two years!! How rich was this family?
