When Alix got to the lotus pavilion, she was a bit surprised to discover that other game players had already arrived or they were just arriving at the same time as she was.

It seemed that a general announcement had gone around the entire virtual world to all the gamers about the beast avatars. The fight was already on among players to grab one and hopefully, a strong one.

The beast avatars were not there in animal form, they were in the form of cards which were hovering around in a golden pillar.

The cards had different colors as well. gold, silver and black. On her way out of the room, the system had explained to her that the avatar she got would become a part of her in the gaming world and the real world.

In the gaming world, she could aside from it fighting alongside her, she harness the power and strength of magical beast avatar in a fight or to complete her quests.

In the real world, she would have some the abilities of the beast although only a fraction. As weird as it sounded to her, Alix was excited to see what that was.

"Get a black card." The system told her.

It sent a close up of the cards, and the black cards were only three. This told her that there were three strong beast avatars.

"Light burst." she told the system.

This was a battle, not a feel good trip and if she had to kill a few competitors to get a black card, she would.

Her strategy as always remained the same. Fly high and fall into the pillar.

She put the flute to her lips, and sat on the back of her ostrich Baize.

"Baize, if you get an opening, head straight into the pillar." she told it.

As soon as she started playing, a lot of angry eyes turned on her.

"Cover your ears, the fucking bard is here." someone yelled.

But how could anyone cover their ears in a situation where there was no such thing as co-operation? Alliances had fallen in the wind and it was every man for himself.

There were no rules in this game of grab and dash. It would not be the strongest who took home the biggest prize, it would the fastest.

Someone took advantage of the momentarily distraction of everyone to grab a gold card. Whoever it was, they were quick and had hands which moved like lightning.

"Shit, the thief got one."

This was said by the orc in a loud and rage filled voice.

With his huge hands, he grabbed a hold of one of the paladins wings and sent her crushing to the ground. Alix saw the assasin, dancing through the competition, her daggers flashing as she swiftly slashed left and right.

She had not noticed the dwarf which had made itself inconspicuous. The others only noticed him when his hammer swung heavily on the foot of the orc and brought it to it's knees.

As if that was not enough, he climbed onto the body of the orc, leaped inside the pavilion, raced to the golden pillar and got himself a black card.

Shit! Alix lost focus momentarily and cursed.

One black card down, only two left.

With her nimble feet and movement, the assasin grabbed a silver card successfully.

Alix's desire to succeed quadrupled. Even Dark death had made it, how could she fail?

She increased the pace of her playing as the ostrich circled the pavilion.

"Arrrrghhh, someone shut her up." the elf yelled.

He drew his arm back and and tried to get an angle on her but which the light she was emitting and Baize's speed in addition to the desperation of the situation, he gave up and cursed.

Getting a strong avatar was more important than killing the bard again.

Alix who had no idea that she had survived being killed again, played her song faster and a whirlwind of light burst from her flute and temporarily blinded the others.

She did not waste a single moment and neither did Baize. He swooped down through an open window and flew straight into golden light pillar.

Alix reached her hand out and grabbed a black card with quickness.

To her surprise, the paladin grabbed the last black card at the same time as her.

Both of them locked eyes momentarily, looking at each other hostilely for a single second and then claimed their prizes before flying away in opposite directions.

Baize took to the sky and hovered above because Alix wanted to watch the rest of the competition. Who would get gold and who would get silver?

"Woo-hoo," the blue elf erupted in cheers and all over the virtual screen, bright lights and fireworks exploded. "That's what I am talking about, quick and efficient. What did you get? Let's see, let's see, quickly, hurry up."

"Relax." she answered.

Alix looked at the black card with an image of a dragon.

"Huh." she said.

"An azure dragon, strong and fast. Looks like you will not need to find another flying beast. You have your own wings now."

It was befitting, Alix thought, a dragon was an auspicious beast symbolizing great wealth and good luck. Who else was worthy of a beast avatar that represented good luck except for her, the host of the infinite luck gaming system?

"Activate." she said.

The card rose up in the air rotated and vanished. In it's place, an infant azure dragon was left behind.

It was as small as a lizard, and it's aura was not as dominant as she expected.

She held out her hand and touched it. It had big eyes, round and innocent with an air of sweetness like a child.

"How cute." she gently run her finger over it's head.

"It's not cute, it's a ferocious beast. You will not spoil it by treating it like a house pet. You must spend points and gaming coins to buy for it food, training sessions, skills. It should be raised into the most formidable beast to walk the ten gaming worlds."

As domineering as it the small blue elf wanted to sound, it came off adorable, just like the baby dragon.

She kept it away temporarily.

"Use whatever points or gaming coins you need to begin it's nourishment. I will leave it in your care." she told the blue elf.

"Wise choice. I will need more money to buy gaming coins, raising a dragon is not cheap. So, thank you for the fifteen to thirty million I am transferring from your account for a start." It answered.

Alix sighed and momentarily closed her eyes. The amount of money she had set aside to buy the academy had just diminished.

The blue elf was not even finished as it said, for a start. This meant it would be taking even more.

"It's a good thing then that you have won yourself that map of the unknown rare earth mineral mine." It reminded her.

Right, that map, she recalled and cheered up.

"Do you know what the others who got the black cards received?" She asked the system.
