Chapter 247: To See You(6)

The farther the area is from the Amber Forest, the wilder the growth of vegetation becomes.

Due to the inactivity of the moon elves outside their territory, the trails that were once there almost disappeared due to the grass, vines and sometimes, even trees that grew there.

It posed a challenge to the moon elves’ scout group. However, for Xagrien and the rest of the chosen ones from the Lune Clan, this wilderness is just like their playground.

"The Moon Elf Lord’s mate, though young, is quite a competent warrior." A warrior couldn’t help but voice out their admiration for Xagrien.

This trip was still too short to produce anything that fulfilled the Moon Elf Lord’s order, but it already showed the skill of the participating warrior.

The moon elf warriors finally became acquainted with the excellence of Xagrien. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

From traversing the challenging woodland and hills to killing the aggressive magical beasts along the way, Xagrien demonstrated an awe-inspiring mastery of all of them.

His actions looked full of ease, but they carried power and control that were reminiscent of an expert warrior who lived for more than a century. Because of this, some of them couldn’t help but ask, "Are you really just 21 years old?"

And true to his character, Xagrien would just answer, "I am. Do I look older?"

Aside from his exceptional skill, the warriors also found his straightforward character admirable.

Xagrien is definitely unlike those shady moon elves who resort to sneaky tricks!

"Hmp! He was that good because of his rough and callous upbringing. If he was weak and lousy while living in the wilderness, then he might as well jump into the shadow panther’s den!" Ali, the deposed patriarch of the Isan Clan, whispered to himself.

He calls that whispering because the volume of his voice is significantly lower than normal. However, he would be lying if he said that he wasn’t aware that other moon elves could hear him.

Yes! He is here as punishment! But that doesn’t mean he is happy to be here! He is still bitter, so no one can stop him from venting!

"His skill was no better than any other warrior in the clan. If not for the Lord’s pity, I doubt Xagrien would have ever drawn the Moon Elf Lord’s eye." His whisper was once again broadcast to the moon elves around him, but this time it was different.

Xagrien seemed to have had enough.

"Did it ever occur to you that if it weren’t for the Moon Elf Lord’s pity, you would be dead?"

Ali choked from anger. What can he say against that? Xagrien is right! The Moon Elf Lord’s pity kept him alive.

"Treasure your life from now on. Because if the Moon Elf Lord could spare you a second chance. I am not. You’d better watch out because you are alone in this wilderness."

"That arrogant—!" Ali’s face was pig liver-colored as he watched the back of the sprinting silver-haired warrior. He was beaten with just a few words.

The moon elf warriors who heard that exchange shook their heads. This guy was simply horrible. It would be best to stay away from him once a dangerous situation arises.

Thus, throughout the trip, Ali noticed the dwindling numbers of moon elf warriors hanging around his five-meter radius.

He successfully became a pariah thanks to his horrible personality.

Well, no matter what Ali thinks about the pathetic situation he landed in, Xagrien doesn’t care.

The young, silver-haired lightning warrior stayed true to the purpose of their group.

He led the moon elves under his leadership to look out for the signs of the Blood Dragon and warn the moon elves they had met in the wild to hurry and go to the Amber Forest.

By the time the sky became reddish and night started creeping in, Xagrien and the scouting group were finally one mile away from Woodrill City. They met two groups of rogue/nomadic moon elves along the way, and they pointed out to take shelter in Woodrill City.

They still hadn’t achieved their goal, but seeing that night is fast approaching, Xagrien decided to build a camp near a waterhole.

"We’re still far from the reported area, so let’s use this time to recover our strength. Remember, our mission is to scout the movements of a powerful enemy. Even if we don’t engage them directly, we’ll burn through a lot of energy. We need to stay ready." Xagrien commanded his small group of competent moon elves.

"Yes, Leader!" They all chorused.

Xagrien is a little surprised by being addressed like that. He felt something warm swirling around his chest, but still, he managed to control his facial expression. "Good. Then let’s all work together to build our camp. One group will set up tents while the other will hunt around the area. Stay safe, everyone."

The warriors respectfully saluted him, then went ahead to take care of things as he ordered.

Xagrien watched them, feeling the same sense of self-fulfilment he felt earlier.

If someone said he would be a leader figure to powerful moon elves a year ago, he would probably have punched them in the face to bring them back to reality.

Who would have thought, right? He was born and raised in the wilderness. Called rogue for almost the entirety of his life.

Xagrien found himself hit by a gripping feeling of nostalgia.

To shake it off, he busied himself roaming around, surveying for prey that they could roast for dinner.

As their quirky Moon Elf Lord always says: Know your priorities.

However, even with his willingness to distract himself, Xagrien cannot help but think of his mate and the changes he brought to his life.

If it weren’t for his beloved Moon Elf Lord... he’s probably somewhere in the perilous part of Immortal’s Glade with no idea what to eat and where to sleep.

"My Lord..." Xagrien whispered to the wind. His voice carries sweetness and longing.

With his Moon Elf Lord, he found home, found peace, and learned love—things he had never known before.

Xagrien looked around and found himself looking intently in the direction of the Amber Forest.

Tonight is their first night apart since they became true mates.

And the thought of it makes Xagrien turn blue.

"I think I missed my Moon Elf Lord," Xagrien said with a sigh.

The sudden melancholy made him feel small, and with him knowing, his presence became smaller, effectively improving his stealth.

A hapless three-pronged deer was tricked into thinking that the area where Xagrien was safe, so it dauntlessly hopped around with glee.

Then—

Woosh!

Xagrien’s arrow flew with surgical precision like his mind was with it, and it landed squarely in the poor deer’s eye.

Bull’s eye!

A triumphant smile bloomed on Xagrien’s face. For a moment, the sadness he felt from missing the Moon Elf Lord diminished— even though it’s just a little.

He eyed his successful hunt. With this, they can eat more meat for dinner.

Xagrien was about to lift the deer to drain all its blood when suddenly, a disturbing voice rang within the forest.

"I’m just a gay boy! I ain’t trying to play, boy. I ain’t lusting after you. Not thinking about you. Ahihihi!"

Accompanied by the chirps and noises from the bugs and animals, Xagrien had goosebumps.

Spooked but still possessing the spirit of a warrior, Xagrien loaded several arrows on his hunting bow and pointed it towards the source of the ghostly voice.

"Show yourself, or I’ll shoot!"

"Woo! Did you just ask me to flash myself? So, naughty. I like it." A shrill, teasing voice sounded.

Xagrien clenched his jaw. He doesn’t like it when strangers play jokes on him, so he instantly felt a bubbling animosity toward the speaker. But for some reason, the attitude behind the voice reminded him of someone.

’Is this some kind of mind attack?’ He asked himself.

Being a wanderer for the majority of his young life, Xagrien accumulated knowledge about the monsters that lurk in the forest.

Some magical beasts are said to be intelligent and hunt by messing with the minds of their prey.

Xagrien gripped his bow and arrows tightly. If this is one of those, then he must kill it this instant. Their camp is near.

Who knows what happens when this intelligent monster goes to their campsite?

It will be a tragedy.

He can’t let that happen!

"If you don’t show yourself, then—" Xagrien no longer finished his sentence and let his arrows fly.

"Shit balls!" The voice sounded hurried.

Xagrien watched as a tree bent like a bamboo, catching the three arrows he shot.

His heart skipped a beat. This power...

"Wait! Wait! Don’t shoot!" Suddenly, a familiar voice rang from the darkened corner of the forest.

Xagrien felt like the heavens opened up above him when he saw his mate coming out of hiding.

"My gosh! What’s with this violent welcome? Are you trying to recreate our first meeting?!" Luis came out. A teasing smile is etched on his attractive face.

"You!" Xagrien blurted out. A mix of relief, surprise and happiness swirling on his handsome face.

"Come here." He said, but his feet are doing the job, hastily approaching Luis.

"Missed me?" Luis mischievously asked.

However, no answer came his way, for Xagrien’s lips already attacked him with a fiery kiss.
