This Lich Requests More Remuneration-Chapter 220 - 201 Escalating to a Political Issue
Chapter 220: Chapter 201: Escalating to a Political Issue
Chapter 220 -201: Escalating to a Political Issue
Fighting with one’s own father over a woman… that doesn’t seem strange.
Whether it was before or after the transmigration, such things were not uncommon. Men have been ruined financially because of a woman, leaving them with broken homes and lost lives; others have turned their backs on their parents over a partner, valuing a simple invitation to eat a bun more than a decade of parental care… Instances like these are too numerous to count.
Two dragons fought fiercely in the sky, but it was clear to see that the Silver Dragon held back, not daring to unleash its full strength. The Green Dragon, on the other hand, showed no such courtesy, biting the Silver Dragon until it was covered in wounds.
It wasn’t long before the Silver Dragon fell, crashing heavily in front of the castle. Its body, dripping with blood, was severely damaged, and dragon blood gushed out as if it cost nothing, with its opened belly revealing intestines and a beating heart.
The Druid’s shape-shifting was a complete transformation, nearly identical to an actual dragon.
However, before the Silver Dragon could experience the agony of being gutted, its body burst like mud, splattering in all directions.
Brandir Sunda stood up from the mess, appearing unscathed.
That was the strength of a Druid, having a second life while transformed. No matter how grievous the injuries, once the transformation ended, they were as if nothing had happened.
Powerful Druids could shift shapes repeatedly to withstand fatal damage.
The Green Dragon flapped its wings in the sky and roared at Brandir Sunda, “Brandir, have you come to your senses now?!”
Brandir sighed and said, “Father, I know you’re angry, but I’ve made my decision, and I won’t regret it.”
“Idiot! How did I raise a son like you!”
The Green Dragon roared and was about to lash its tail at Brandir, but Brandir no longer stood and took the hits.
A dazzling green light emanated from Brandir, and numerous thick vines grew out of the air, binding the giant Green Dragon tightly.
The Green Dragon roared and struggled, but it couldn’t break free at all.
The Dragon quickly shifted back into human form, an elderly Druid entangled in the vines. But regaining his human form meant regaining his spell casting ability, and the vines twisted and contorted in the hands of this old father, soon turning into warriors woven from vines, lunging at Brandir.
Brandir sighed, reaching for a staff made of oak.
A golden glow gathered on the staff, smashing each vine warrior to pieces with a swift blow.
Every Druid could learn the trick “Staff of the Oak Magic,” which temporarily enchants a wooden staff, enhancing its power. Since it’s called a trick, the spell’s effects were quite ordinary.
In Brandir’s hands, though, the staff was like a Divine Artifact.
Vine warriors, over two-meter-tall Treants, forest sprites, elemental creatures, and the like didn’t stand a chance under Brandir’s staff, which was more powerful than a Holy Slash.
But Brandir was measured; he only struck the creatures summoned by his father, not laying a hand on the man himself.
Amberser was quite impressed; love might have clouded his mind, but he certainly was formidable.
His father could transform into a dragon and likely was of Legendary Rank, but even in a state of rage, he was effortlessly suppressed by Brandir, showing how formidable the young Druid was.
After Brandir had blown up all the summoned creatures, he said to his father, “In fact, I could have easily defeated you ten years ago, father. I was holding back just now.”
Amberser was speechless; this fool dared to talk like that; was he not courting death?
Sure enough, Brandir’s father’s eyes reddened upon hearing those words. He transformed once again, this time into a giant bear, and swung a pot-sized paw at his undutiful son.
Brandir didn’t dare harm his father, so he could only continually summon vines to block the bear’s swipes.
It would come down to whether Brandir’s magic ran out first, or his father became too exhausted to move.
Amberser would normally have been happy to watch the excitement; Druid conflicts were rare, and battles between two Legendary Druids were even rarer.
But Katherine couldn’t bear to watch and said to Amberser, “Would you do something?”
“What should I do? Do you think I should fan the flames when it seems they won’t kill each other?” Amberser asked in surprise.
“Of course not, I want you to find a way to make them stop. It’s because of me that the two Druids started fighting. If this gets out, it will damage our Elf Tribe’s reputation and affect the cooperation between the Silvermoon Tribunal and the Emerald Dream Forest.”
Katherine was no longer just an ignorant sweet girl; she had begun to consider the political implications.
Katherine said to Amberser, “You were the one who asked me to come to the Emerald Dream Forest to help you, so you must solve this for me.”
“Okay, you have a point. The focal point of this conflict is you. It is because of you that that Druid is so infatuated. No one but you can resolve this,” Amberser said.
Katherine said somewhat frantically, “I don’t know what to do. I’ve already refused him. I can’t very well kill him.”
“Why don’t you just marry him? This Druid isn’t that bad,” Amberser said.
Katherine said decisively, “It’s absolutely impossible. I don’t like such childish men. Besides, he’s not an Elf.”

When Brandir first declared his love, Katherine had already rejected him without hesitation.
Although the Druid had status, position, and strength, his behavior was as childish as a little boy’s, and Katherine didn’t have much fondness for him. Brandir’s rash declaration of love had put Katherine in an awkward position, making her feel incredibly annoyed.
Moreover, the majority of the High Elves harbored a sense of racial purity and only wished to unite with other members of their race. Otherwise, with the beauty of the Elf Tribe, the number of Half-Elves on the continent would increase tenfold.
Amberser said helplessly, “You’re so resolute. Then let’s change the approach and make him give up for good.”
“How are we going to accomplish that?” Katherine asked curiously. “I was very serious when I rejected him before, but he simply wouldn’t listen.”
“You’re not doing it the right way, let me handle it,” Amberser said, his voice already identical to Katherine’s.
The illusions of the Lady of Mist were almost magical in their skill, capable not only of creating visual illusions but also replicating every other detail perfectly.
Amberser explained, “You just stand on the balcony and don’t do anything, let me do the talking.”
Unfortunately, Katherine’s charm was a special ability that Amberser, despite using illusion to mimic her appearance, couldn’t replicate her outrageous charisma, so she had to stand in front to play the part.
“Then I’m counting on you.”
Feeling reassured by Amberser’s words, Katherine felt a sense of relief. Although the Lich was cunning, it seemed there was nothing he had promised to do that he hadn’t been able to accomplish.
Katherine stepped out of the castle, appearing on the balcony.
Amberser then concealed his form, standing right behind Katherine. To ensure that the voice would come from the right location, Amberser had to stand close behind her.
This little girl has quite a perky behind, Amberser thought, making it inconvenient for him to get any closer.
Unaware of Amberser’s thoughts, Katherine looked nervously at the two Druids locked in intense battle. As her lips parted slightly, Amberser spoke for her.
“Gentlemen, please stop. I have seen enough of this welcoming performance in the Emerald Dream Forest.”
The comment was heavily laced with irony, causing Katherine’s complexion to change. Could such words offend others? This Lich really wasn’t afraid that Silvermoon Tribunal and the Emerald Dream Forest would fall out!
Though she was uncomfortable with the situation, the ruse had already begun, and Katherine had no choice but to keep playing her part.
As soon as Amberser spoke, the two Druids in the midst of battle ceased their struggle.
Brandir immediately stopped, his face swelling from the bear paw strikes dealt by his father. After slapping his son twice, his father reverted to human form and spoke to Katherine, “Your Majesty Katherine, it is my son who has been terribly rude. I will take him away and teach him a lesson.”
Though all were guests, the Druids’ attitude towards Katherine was far more respectful than towards Amberser.
That was the disparity in national power; Katherine was not just a guest but the Queen of the Elf Tribe.
Even with his cheeks swollen from the slaps, Brandir showed no concern for his father’s words and knelt on one knee before Katherine, boldly declaring, “Katherine, my love for you is unstoppable by anything. Regardless of whether my father agrees or not, I will devote everything to you.”
Katherine frowned; here he was again, persisting in such an annoying manner. It was exactly this shameless attitude that made it difficult for Katherine to deal with him.
But this time, it was Amberser who would handle Brandir.
“Brandir, I didn’t want to waste time on this matter, as it was something I had already clearly rejected before. But now, it seems my courtesy and politeness have led to your misunderstanding, pushing you to test my limits repeatedly. You should be well aware that as the Queen of the Elf Tribe, my marriage is a matter for the future of Silvermoon Tribunal. Are you, as a member of the Emerald Dream Forest council, prepared to represent the Emerald Dream Forest in interfering with the internal affairs of Silvermoon Tribunal?”
Brandir’s mouth fell open, but he could not utter a single word. How had things gotten so serious all of a sudden?
Brandir’s father grew even more anxious; he hadn’t expected the Elf Queen to suddenly abandon all pleasantries. She had been quite easy to talk to before, so why had she suddenly started playing the political card?
Continuing to speak for Katherine, Amberser said, “You don’t think I’m joking, do you? I am visiting the Emerald Dream Forest as the Queen of the Elves, and every word and deed of mine represents the entire Elf Tribe. You should be well aware of this. Brandir, don’t you understand? For High Elves to mate with another race is considered an insult to all Elves, and your so-called declaration of love is seen as a provocation to the entire Elf Tribe!”
The statements came off as racially discriminatory, but it depends on who uttered such words. Coming from a High Elf, it seemed more like stating a fact.
When it comes to appearance, temperament, wisdom, longevity, and a whole range of criteria, the average of the High Elves undoubtedly surpasses other races, a fact even Laine People admit, acknowledging that except for the difficulty Elves face in childbirth, they surpass humans in all other aspects.
Katherine hadn’t used racial discrimination to reject Brandir before because she was too kind and didn’t want to damage someone else’s self-esteem in such a manner.
But when Amberser applied this reasoning, Brandir had no choice but to acknowledge it.
Even though he was the youngest Legendary Druid, aspiring to marry Katherine was indeed reaching far above his station.
“I didn’t want such a trivial matter to affect the relations between our two nations, but it seems I wasn’t clear enough before. Brandir, I am now telling you explicitly that I will not accept your courtship. If you persist, I will consider it a provocation to Silvermoon Tribunal. Next time I visit the Emerald Dream Forest, I will bring all the Dusk Guards with me, to show that the dignity of the Elf Tribe is not to be provoked.”
