This Lich Requests More Remuneration-Chapter 221 - 202 Great Turmoil Approaches
Chapter 221: Chapter 202: Great Turmoil Approaches
Chapter 221 -202: Great Turmoil Approaches
After saying those words, Amberser tugged at Katherine’s sleeve, signaling that she could return.
Katherine quickly turned and walked into the castle. Although she felt that Amberser’s words were too harsh on others’ pride, she also understood that his approach was a hundred times more effective than her previous rejections. Indeed, whatever matter was handed over to this Lich, he was able to resolve it.
Amberser’s words left Brandir standing frozen in place. His goddess had spoken to him with such a decisive tone for the first time; even her rejections had been gentle before, accompanied by a few words of comfort, for fear of hurting his feelings.
It was precisely because of this gentleness that Brandir believed he still had a chance.
It wasn’t until the stark disparity between their identities was laid bare in such a way that Brandir questioned whether, in her eyes, his pursuit had been an insult.
Somehow, it didn’t seem wrong.
The Elf Tribe had already been superior to other races during the era of the Magic Dragon Tyrant, and over a thousand years ago, the Silvermoon Tribunal was a paradise envied by everyone.
The Druids only began to settle here after the Magic Dragon Tyrant was slain. Compared to the Silvermoon Tribunal, the Emerald Dream Forest was lacking in national heritage, to say nothing of the gap between humans and elves.
Brandir deeply felt he was out of his league.
The so-called “giving up everything” and “devoting all” was like a child trying to trade their candy for an adult’s gold. In his own eyes, it might have seemed like a desperate gamble, but in the eyes of others, it was clearly taking advantage due to his own naivety.
Brandir, like an idler who had lost his dreams, slumped to the ground motionless.
His father stood by, quietly watching his son. He had originally wanted to give Brandir a slap, but now he seemed a bit reluctant. Although Katherine’s words were quite face-slapping, this blunt approach was better; it should help Brandir to give up at last.
The old father patted Brandir’s shoulder and said to him, “Come back with me. Her Majesty Katherine has made herself very clear. If you continue to pester her, it will be harassment, which, according to the doctrine, should be punished.”
If he continued to pester, the Elf Queen would really become angry, and their sons should not be the cause of ruining the cooperation between the two kingdoms.
Brandir seemed to have lost his soul, allowing his old father to lead him away, as the outside of the castle once again settled into silence.
Within the castle, Katherine peeked excitedly at the father and son leaving, then let out a long sigh of relief.
Katherine said to Amberser with excitement, “You are incredible. Just a few words from you and he gave up.”
Amberser said contemptuously, “Some people just can’t be given any face. However, it worked because this kid Brandir isn’t fundamentally bad. If it were some shameless scoundrel trying to take advantage, this tactic would be useless.”
Brandir’s collapse stemmed from his sense of self-respect, and he truly fell in love with Katherine. So, upon confirming that Katherine was hurt because of him, he was utterly disheartened. But a bootlicker with principles like him is rare; more often, there are those who are just seeking advantages. They won’t stop at anything, not caring about face let alone conscience, toss aside.
Katherine asked curiously, “What would you do if you encountered the kind of person you mentioned?”
Amberser said without hesitation, “A Disintegration spell, turn him into a pile of ash, even saving the effort of digging a grave.”
Who has so much time to waste on these scoundrels? Just kill them and be done with it; this is not a society governed by the rule of law.

Regardless of Katherine’s shock to her values, Amberser finally began to focus on important matters. With the Lady of Mist’s help, the Natural Dreamscape of the Emerald Dream Forest became Amberser’s backyard. It was time for Naomi to enter the dreamscape for training.
The flow of time in the dreamscape was faster, and with Naomi’s own capabilities, she should be able to handle it given just one night.
Naomi entered the Natural Dreamscape smoothly following Amberser’s instructions. Amberser couldn’t care less about anything else and focused on monitoring her.
As Naomi’s contract owner, he could sense the subtle changes in Naomi. Although the chances of the Lady of Mist deceiving others were very small, it never hurt to be too cautious. By staying close to Naomi, he could respond immediately to any emergencies.
Katherine, seeing Amberser doing this, couldn’t help but say, “You’re finally looking a bit more like a companion. Before, you were just like a slave master, it was pitiful for Naomi to see.”
Amberser retorted, “What are you talking about? When have I ever acted like a slave master? And to have such good fortune, I’d wake up laughing from a dream.”
Katherine: …
This Lich, not even slightly concealing his greed.
Katherine was already accustomed to this and quickly shifted the topic back to the Lady of Mist, curiously asking, “Is she really a fallen deity? Could she be some powerful evil being deceiving you?”
Amberser shook his head, “I have had my doubts, but the illusion spells she taught me were definitely created by a deity; there is no faking that.”
Laila’s true Illusion Realm, indeed the effects of this spell are profoundly game-changing. Any qualified spellcaster would understand the might of this spell.
Another point, the Lady of Mist’s ability to control the Druids’ dreamscape also seems much like the handiwork of a deity.
Katherine then asked, “Even if she is real, why wait all these years to seek your help? You may be formidable, but you’re nothing compared to the druids of the whole Emerald Dream Forest. The Lady of Mist could have just collaborated with the druids for a higher chance of success, couldn’t she?”
After thinking for a while, Amberser explained, “It might have something to do with the Father of the Oak. After all, the Lady of Mist was killed by other deities and except for the Master of Spellcasting who preserved a glimmer of life for her, she likely has a psychological shadow over other deities. I am somewhat special, as I don’t worship any gods, which makes me the ideal candidate for the Lady of Mist.”
Katherine, however, showed a worried expression.
“If it’s true, then the war might indeed be coming, and we elves might not be able to avoid it.”
Katherine disliked war. Regardless of the reasons, the outcome of war only amounted to massive casualties. She had previously felt relieved that the Elf Tribe had avoided a conflict, but it seemed the real battle had not even begun.
All Amberser could do was to offer comfort, “When the divine beings cause trouble, mortals can only obediently serve as their pawns. What we can do is to make ourselves more valuable and not so easily expended as cannon fodder by the gods. By the way, haven’t the Elven Gods given any warning? I’ve already received several hints from various gods.”
Katherine shook her head with a sense of helplessness, “Perhaps it’s because I have not yet fully atoned for my sins. It’s been a long time since I heard the voice of the gods.”
The Elven Gods are quite stingy, aren’t they? The problem has already been perfectly resolved, and they’re still not satisfied?
But since Katherine was out of the equation, Amberser could only rely on himself.
Based on the available information, it was clear that the gods were setting up a grand game. It was certain that some would fall in this great upheaval and new gods would ascend. However, who exactly would take part and how they would do so, Amberser knew nothing.
One thing was certain: the gods needed mortals as spokespersons to reap benefits for them amidst the chaos. A group of gods sought out Amberser as the Chosen One, essentially coveting his personal abilities.
A lich graced with multiple Legendary blessings was considered quite desirable to the dark deities.
This was also what troubled Amberser the most because these gods were more unreliable than the next, and mingling with them meant having to stand against the Lord of the Dawn.
The Lord of the Dawn had a bad habit of personally descending to take control over the bodies of his followers for battle when they were outmatched. This wasn’t a rare occurrence for just a few lucky ones—there have been many such records. This deity truly did not mind bullying the weaker.
Divine possession, of course, had its limits, usually unable to harness the true power of a god.
But for a powerful deity like the Lord of the Dawn, even when suppressed to a Legendary Rank, he would still be more than capable of annihilating Amberser instantly.
If he ever faced the Laine Empire on the battlefield, after barely managing to hammer the Silvermoon Knights, only to turn around and have the Lord of the Dawn descend in a blaze of Holy Light to thrash Amberser, then what would be the point of it all?
So, Amberser had always hoped for the appearance of a reliable and powerful deity to support him, such as the Magic Goddess Mistrall or the Master of Knowledge, Ogma.
Unfortunately, the Magic Goddess never paid much attention to Amberser, and Ogma only favored bards. To him, a lich as tone-deaf as Amberser was meaningless.
Amberser looked at Katherine. Although this young woman considered herself deeply sinful and still under the punishment of the Elven Gods, the blessings upon her had not been retracted. He believed the Elven Gods cared a great deal about Katherine. After all, a purely good soul was immensely precious, and no deity would forsake it.
Could he use Katherine’s connections to get in with the Elven Gods?
As he contemplated future plans, time ticked away until the sun rose, and Naomi had yet to awaken from her dreamscape. Amberser knew she was in good condition and her dream training was likely going well; it simply required more time.
Just when Amberser thought he could wait peacefully for Naomi to wake, his Necromancy Codex vibrated slightly.
Pulling it out to look, he saw a message from Withered Rose, who had not been responding before.
[Withered Rose: The Laine has invaded the Orc Kingdom, and they’ve breached twelve cities, nearly reaching the Orc capital.]
Amberser was startled. Had the Laine People gone mad? They had just finished fighting the Desert Dwarves and now were attacking the Orcs? Why hadn’t there been any sign of this happening? The Orc Kingdom may not have an abundant population, but orcs are natural warriors. Their military strength ranks among the top of the Nine Great Kingdoms; how could they fall so quickly?
Amberser promptly replied: [When did this happen? I hadn’t heard any rumors, so how have they suddenly reached the Orc capital?]
[Withered Rose: Ten days ago, I received intel that the Laine was mobilizing their forces. They withdrew most of their elite troops from the desert and moved them to the other border. Three days ago, the Silvermoon Knights led the Paladin Legion in a surprise attack. The Orc Kingdom has already lost five Legendary warriors, and no one can stop that old fellow!]
