Chapter 43: Battle Above the Skies of Feng Ye Sect

"Who are you, Fellow Daoist?!" Elder Liu Feng barked, his cultivation base on par with Wang Gu.

"Fellow Daoist Wang Gu," Elder Su called.

Wang Gu did not turn. His gaze remained fixed on the sky just outside the Feng Ye Sect. The destruction of the protective barrier had set parts of the sect grounds ablaze.

Chaos spread everywhere, throwing many disciples into panic.

"I’m the one who injured your three disciples. You should be attacking me, not them," Wang Gu said calmly.

Liu Feng narrowed his eyes, then turned and summoned one of his disciples. The young man hurried over and explained in detail that it was indeed Wang Gu who had injured them, not someone from the Feng Ye Sect.

"Fellow Daoist! I don’t know what your status is, but provoking the Huo Lian Sect means death for you."

He formed another hand seal. Five large crimson runes appeared behind his back.

Five flaming meteors shot out from the runes, hurtling toward Wang Gu. He had no intention of standing still.

Both his hands formed seals. Dozens of golden runes emerged behind him.

From those runes, thousands of swords burst forth, streaking toward the incoming meteors.

BLAST!

The explosion startled everyone. The elders of the Feng Ye Sect rose into the air, forming protective barriers to shield the entire sect from the aftermath.

Wang Gu remained unaffected, standing tall on his flying sword. His thousand-sword attack had completely crushed Liu Feng’s five meteors.

Elder Liu Feng and the disciples of the Huo Lian Sect were stunned. They hadn’t expected Wang Gu to withstand their elder’s power, especially while facing them alone.

Liu Feng’s gaze sharpened. His right hand clenched tightly as he realized Wang Gu was far more troublesome than expected, even with Feng Qing already incapacitated.

He glanced left and right, then ordered his disciples to attack together. They nodded and flew forward, swords in hand.

Fifty cultivators from the Huo Lian Sect charged at Wang Gu, attacking with both weapons and techniques.

Wang Gu dodged several times. His hand rose to chest level, golden qi gathering at his fingertips.

[Heavenly Path Insight Technique.]

[Detecting:]

[Large-scale cultivator assault.]

[Conclusion:]

[Three effective techniques:]

[1. Soul Illusion Tetragram Technique: manifests cultivator forms through efficient qi use, effective for overwhelming or countering multiple enemies.]

[2. Nine-Step Lightning Technique: summons imitation heavenly tribulation lightning. Limited to nine strikes.]

[3. Northern Dragon Confinement Formation: traps enemies and suppresses their abilities for a duration.]

[All three techniques are Earth-grade. Effective against cultivators below Core Formation.]

The Heavenly Path Insight panel appeared, offering Wang Gu a solution to this uneven battle.

He read it while evading attacks. The Huo Lian disciples were growing frustrated.

Some Feng Ye elders grew worried. After all, this conflict had started entirely because of their sect’s mistake.

But just as they were about to intervene, Feng Qing’s condition visibly worsened.

Wang Gu formed a complex series of hand seals, his focus sharpening.

Once completed, he activated one of the techniques.

"Soul Illusion Tetragram Technique... activate!"

A Yin-Yang tetragram circle appeared beneath him.

Liu Feng gasped. He clearly recognized the technique.

"Tetragram? Yin-Yang?! Are you from the Yin-Yang Sect?!"

"Too late to figure that out," Wang Gu replied.

The tetragram expanded. Figures formed from ink-like dao qi emerged.

More than thirty Wang Gus appeared, each engaging the fifty Huo Lian disciples.

It was more than enough. Each clone was nearly as strong as the original.

With the disciples distracted, Wang Gu focused on Liu Feng.

He flew past several opponents and appeared before him.

Liu Feng’s eyes widened. He hadn’t expected the one approaching him to be the real Wang Gu.

"You?!"

"Your opponent... is me."

Wang Gu raised his hand, qi gathering at his fingertips as his sword shot forward.

Their blades clashed. A direct battle became inevitable.

Many Huo Lian disciples were forced to retreat, injured and unable to break the tetragram technique.

They were too exhausted to assist Liu Feng.

"So this is the strength of a Huo Lian elder? All you’re good at is running."

Wang Gu formed another seal. A massive golden rune appeared.

From it, a giant golden dragon surged forward. Liu Feng’s expression changed. He hastily formed a defensive spell.

At first, he managed to hold. But gradually, his power eroded as the golden dragon grew stronger.

Cracks spread across his barrier.

Within seconds, it shattered.

BLAST!

A massive explosion filled the sky.

Everyone was stunned. Several Huo Lian disciples rushed to rescue Liu Feng.

He had already fallen, lying injured in the forest below. The dragon’s attack had left him completely powerless.

Wang Gu raised his hand. A sword floated beside him. One more strike was all it would take to end Liu Feng’s life.

"That’s enough, Fellow Daoist Wang Gu!"

Elder Su Yue flew over, stopping him, "If you kill him, this matter will never end."

Wang Gu listened. After a long breath, he withdrew his attack.

He spared Liu Feng’s life.

"I consider this matter settled. Leave before I change my mind."

Without another word, the Huo Lian disciples carried Liu Feng away.

Once they were far enough, Wang Gu and Su Yue returned to the Feng Ye Sect.

But as he reached the sky above the sect, Wang Gu stopped.

He formed another long and complex series of hand seals.

Then he thrust his hand forward. Qi shot upward toward the sky above the sect.

The energy exploded, forming a defensive formation that enveloped the entire Feng Ye Sect.

A Three-Pillar Dragon Formation.

It could grow stronger as its energy core strengthened.

Su Yue, Feng Qing, and the other disciples watched in shock. They hadn’t expected a stranger like Wang Gu to help them so much.

Ten minutes later, the formation was complete.

Wang Gu then directed another beam of qi toward Feng Qing.

Everyone was startled. The elders were too slow to react as the golden light struck him.

But nothing harmful happened.

When the light faded, a golden dragon mark remained on Feng Qing’s forehead, marking the formation’s energy core.

"What did you do, Fellow Daoist Wang Gu?" Su Yue asked.

Wang Gu descended and landed in the courtyard, "I replaced your sect’s formation. Its strength will scale with your sect master’s cultivation."

"The higher his cultivation, the harder it will be for others to break it."

He produced a plate containing the formation’s information and handed it over.

"Thank you for your help, Fellow Daoist Wang Gu. But about Sect Master Feng Qing’s condition..."

Wang Gu stepped forward and crouched in front of Feng Qing.

A golden orb of qi formed at his fingertip and entered Feng Qing’s forehead.

He closed his eyes, letting his soul consciousness scan Feng Qing’s body.

The elders stayed silent, watching. Less than ten minutes later, Wang Gu opened his eyes.

"What did you find?" Su Yue asked.

"Let me guess. The death aura in your body comes from your dwindling lifespan."

"You have about forty years left."

Feng Qing nodded weakly, coughing, "You’re right, Fellow Daoist Wang Gu."

"The only way to save you is to help you break through to Nascent Soul."

"Nascent Soul? We don’t have that capability."

Wang Gu stood and glanced toward the sect’s herbal garden, filled with more than enough resources.

"I can do it. I just need your herbal resources."
