Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 26 - Clueless
26: Chapter 26 Clueless
26 -26 Clueless
Qian Chuan went missing for 24 hours, and there was still no news.
The school reported to the police, and they arrived promptly.
Based on the information gathered, they went to the wall Qian Chuan had climbed over to look for clues.
As Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie were the last ones to see Qian Chuan, and they also knew where Qian Chuan had climbed the wall, they cooperated with the police in finding clues.
To their surprise, the person leading the team this time was Su Hui.
“Another one of your classmates is missing, isn’t this a bit…” Su Hui hesitated to say it was strange and peculiar.
She sent her colleagues to look around for any traces or clues, and chatted with Gu Fan, trying to find out if he had noticed anything odd about Qian Chuan.
However, Gu Fan shook his head, saying he didn’t detect anything unusual about Qian Chuan, and that many people have climbed fences before.
Behind the wall that Qian Chuan climbed was an undeveloped forest, devoid of human activity and surveillance.
Hence, it was almost impossible to find any clues from surveillance footage.
But once you crossed this forest and reached the main road, there would definitely be surveillance cameras.
Gu Fan knew the regular route everyone would take after climbing the wall, crossing the same forest, taking the same route, hitting the highway, and entering the world outside the school.
However, to everyone’s disappointment, after viewing the highway surveillance footage numerous times, they still couldn’t spot Qian Chuan.
It was highly likely that he encountered something in the forest, which prevented him from getting to the highway.
If someone had kidnapped Qian Chuan, they might appear in the surveillance footage.
But after spending a long time reviewing the surveillance, they didn’t see anyone walking out of the forest and onto the highway.
This forest was bordered by the school fence on one side and the highway on another, with the other two sides backing onto farm fields and residences.
There were no surveillance cameras there either.
If someone really did kidnap Qian Chuan, they would surely take a route out of the surveillance’s sight.
This was a tricky case.
Lack of surveillance significantly cut their chances.
The remaining hope was in finding the exact location of the incident and hopefully discovering some trace left by the kidnapper, like footprints or cigarette butts.
Upon hearing this, Gu Fan felt a pang of anxiety.
If Qian Chuan’s disappearance was proven to be a deliberate kidnapping instead of a supernatural occurrence or a curse, at least they would know what they were dealing with.
After spending the entire morning searching, the police finally found the place of the incident.
The soil there showed clear signs of being scraped away as if someone had been struggling and digging their feet into the ground.
But after searching the scene, they only found one footprint.
After comparing it with the shoes in Qian Chuan’s dorm, they found the size to be about the same, leading them to believe that something happened to Qian Chuan at this location.
However, besides Qian Chuan’s footprint, they couldn’t find anyone else’s, which was utterly baffling.
Even after expanding the search area, they still couldn’t find any useful clues.
Nevertheless, as a police officer, Su Hui had seen various tricks.
She knew that the kidnapper must have used some method to remove Qian Chuan without leaving a footprint.
The thought of any supernatural occurrence never crossed her mind.
Gu Fan, lacking Su Hui’s experience, was filling his mind with thoughts of supernatural occurances.
He even imagined a beautiful and well-proportioned female ghost taking Qian Chuan away.
The scene was both terrifying and intriguing.
The case could only progress up to here.
The police stated they would continue following up, but this time there were no solid leads.
Everyone was extremely worried for Qian Chuan.
Su Hui came over and said, “From now on, if you’re not coming back at night, send me a message.
There are too many people disappearing lately.
Don’t make me worry.” After saying this, Su Hui left with a twist of her hips.
Gu Fan was taken aback by her words.
For some reason, he felt odd.
Lu Yi, watching the interaction, said enviously, “Dude, what did you do to have the policewoman care so much about you?”
Jie also joined in the teasing, “What do you think Lin Xi would think if she knew that another beautiful woman is concerned about you?”
“She would strangle me…
strangle me hard…” Gu Fan smiled bitterly, then said, “Tonight, Lu Yi, come back with me…”
“Nah, I have plans tonight.
I’m not going with you.” As he said this, Lu Yi wore a sly smirk, obviously not interested in playing the shield for Gu Fan.
Gu Fan was in a dilemma, “Didn’t you say you wanted to have a relationship with the policewoman?
Wasn’t it serious?”
“Nope, I still prefer the younger girls.
As for the older woman, I can’t handle it.
This chance is all yours.
After all, she’s already living in your place.” Lu Yi shrugged, leaving Gu Fan dumbfounded.
Struggling, Gu Fan responded, “Are you seriously leaving me to go back alone?
I don’t want to be the fourth person to disappear.”
“Don’t worry.
The school ends quite early in the afternoon.
Like you said, nothing will happen during the day.
Plus, the route to your house is always crowded.
As long as you don’t wander around aimlessly, they won’t do anything to you.
And, you haven’t entered any secret room.” Lu Yi reassured him swiftly.
After hearing this, Gu Fan felt that it made sense, but at the same time, something felt off.
Now, Jie seemed confused: “A hidden room?
What hidden room?
And why are you, Gu Fan, worried about being the fourth person to disappear?”
“Ah, well, we can talk about that later…” Gu Fan and Lu Yi subtly avoided the question.
They found it difficult to share the recent events with Jie.
Since Zhao Rui and Li Xiaoyan disappeared over the holidays, away from school, the teachers kept it under wraps and didn’t make it widely known, to avoid unnecessary gossip or rumors.
Thus, most people were unaware after school started, and most people had only an average relationship with Zhao Rui and Li Xiaoyan, so they didn’t pay much attention to them.
Jie, seeing his two good friends acting mysteriously, felt that they must be hiding something, and he could sense that they were a little nervous and worried.
For some reason, he began to feel uneasy as well.
With this sense of unease, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie finished their day’s classes.
Gu Fan didn’t spend time in the library as usual.
Instead, he borrowed a few books, packed up his bag, and went home, feeling not at all good about narrowly escaping from being the third person to disappear while worrying about being the fourth one.
For Gu Fan’s safety, Lin Xi didn’t insist on him staying at school.
However, Lin Xi warned Gu Fan that if he dared to flirt with other girls behind her back, the consequences would be severe.
Gu Fan swore to heaven and swore again.
As darkness approached, Lin Xi finally let go, repeatedly reminding Gu Fan to respond to messages and answer calls as soon as possible, otherwise, the consequences would be equally severe.
After finally placating Lin Xi, Gu Fan rode his bicycle all the way home, and even became paranoid, looking to his left and his right, deliberately stopping at corners to see if anyone was following him.
“Calm down, calm down!” Gu Fan felt like he was on the verge of being driven mad by this inexplicable fear.
Images of Zhao Rui, Li Xiaoyan, and Qian Chuan wouldn’t stop vividly haunting his mind, and he could even imagine the terrifying expressions on their faces when they disappeared.
Now, Gu Fan was hoping that someone was following him, because if that were the case, it would mean that this was intentionally done by someone and not a supernatural event.
However, Gu Fan returned home safely without spotting any suspicious individuals.
Just when Gu Fan thought he would get through the day safely, he pulled out his phone and saw three missed calls.
He immediately felt doomed.
“I just got home.
The road was too noisy, so I didn’t hear.
It takes me thirty minutes to get home.” Gu Fan didn’t dare to call her back and nervously sent a message to Lin Xi, hoping that his girlfriend could be as understanding as she was when they first met.
Lin Xi sent him a message back: “It only takes twenty minutes if you cycle fast enough, letting you ten minutes to do whatever you want at home.”
“Damn, this woman is so hard to please…” Gu Fan despaired.
But then, he quickly changed the subject, telling Lin Xi not to overwork herself during her dance rehearsals and not to practice alone till late.
He also suggested her to head back with her dorm mates if they decided to leave.
Even though they’re at school, she shouldn’t be alone.
Lin Xi responded with one message: “Thanks for the concern.”
Seeing these four words, Gu Fan sighed in relief, thinking that the matter could be put to rest.
But then Lin Xi sent another message: “It’s good to know that you have someone at home, so I don’t have to worry about your safety.”
“Will it ever end?!” Gu Fan shook his head.
Pleasing his girlfriend seemed even harder than sparring with Sister Su in boxing.
Suddenly the door opened, and Sister Su walked out, looking puzzled at Gu Fan: “You’ve been standing in front of the door for ages, what on earth are you thinking about?
Hurry up.”
“Hurry up?
What do you mean?” Gu Fan hadn’t figured out what was going on when he saw Sister Su handing over a boxing headgear, which made him both laugh and cry.
What he feared had happened.
“Stop dawdling, every minute counts.” Sister Su, with her bag in one hand and pulling Gu Fan’s arm with the other, headed straight for the boxing club.
Gu Fan pleaded with a bitter face, “Wait Sister Su, I don’t want to go to school all bruised up tomorrow.
And I am a student right now, I need to spend time studying.”
“Exercise is as important as studying.
Moreover, the outside world is fascinating, and you need to experience more, or else you may become a fool from studying too much,” Sister Su said convincingly, but Gu Fan knew that these were just her excuses.
And judging by Sister Su’s displeased expression, someone must have angered her, and now she wanted to vent by beating someone up.
“Enough of the complaints, a real man is not afraid of pain.” Sister Su’s determined look made Gu Fan realize that there was no escaping today.
Thus, much to his chagrin, Gu Fan started his journey as a sparring partner.
And this was how he came to love the sport, despite the not so friendly introduction that included getting a swollen face and nose.
