Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!-Chapter 228: We’re Not Taking You, Absolutely Not
Hannah watched Iris walking ahead, her mind filled with countless thoughts.
She felt no meaning to her life, yet from Iris she sensed a strong vitality.
Why is this woman always so full of life? It’s as if she lives on the brink of death, gritting her teeth to survive, and that energy even impacted Hannah.
Is this what a woman should possess?
Hannah averted her eyes despondently.
There was nothing in this world she wanted to obtain, even staying by Jonas’s side as a malicious supporting character was only because she had nowhere else to go. Besides, she was involved in Weston Wyatt’s death back then, and she and Jonas were just using each other.
However, this time...
Hannah felt her heartbeat was out of her control.
She got in the car and followed them home, where the agency people tidied up the house for Iris and Lachlan. When they found Hannah trailing at the back, Peach was the first to speak, "Why are you here too?"
She was straightforward, for Peach was even more direct than Iris, "I don’t remember inviting you."
Hannah said softly, "Lachlan is my brother, of course, I came with him..."
"Do you follow him to the bathroom too?"
Peach crossed her arms and squinted, "I forgot to tell you, this is Iris’s house. You and Lachlan are both outsiders, what, are you planning to freeload here too?"
Hannah froze, completely unaware that this was Iris’s house. Now her only option was to seek Iris’s permission, "Sister-in-law, I’m now homeless, can you take me in..."
She deliberately made herself sound pitiful, as if Iris would be inconsiderate if she didn’t agree.
Iris furrowed her brow, just about to refuse, when Hannah grasped her hand, "During your hospital stay, I took care of both of you. Sister-in-law, it’s what I should do. I don’t want to be separated from my brother, and given my situation, it’s really dangerous for me outside. I beg you, sister-in-law, please take me in."
Listen to her pleading!
Iris swallowed back her rejection and could only say expressionlessly, "I know, I’ll prepare a guest room for you."
Hearing this, Hannah beamed and turned to Lachlan, "Thank you so much, Brother!"
"..." Peach stood aside, speechless, as the one who decided to give her a place to stay was Iris, yet Hannah turned to thank Lachlan, what is that about?
Iris, wide-minded, did not fuss and went upstairs to open a door, "You can stay here for now, this room is yours to use."
Then she pointed to the study, "But you can’t enter any rooms on the second floor besides this one. You can use the living room and kitchen downstairs though."
Hannah said pitifully, "Sister-in-law, don’t you trust me? I understand, I won’t snoop around."
"Don’t speak to me in that tone."
After setting up the guest room for her, Iris brushed past Hannah with a sarcastic smile, "It’s quite disgusting."
Hannah froze, uncomfortable as she watched Iris’s dashing figure; enduring and humbling herself before Iris day after day, she didn’t know how long she had to endure!
Seeing Iris deciding to keep Hannah, James lowered his voice to Lachlan, "Why didn’t you step in and say something?"
Lachlan shrugged, "It’s her house, why should I make decisions for her?"
"...Isn’t she your sister?"
"If anyone’s driving her out, it should be Iris. What’s my word worth?" Lachlan raised an eyebrow, "I won’t decide for her or make any decisions on her behalf. If Iris doesn’t become willing, she’ll naturally have Hannah kicked out, doesn’t need me to speak."
That seemed to make sense, but James still felt having Hannah around was a risk. Although Hannah painted herself as particularly pitiful, who knows what the truth is? They certainly couldn’t verify it with Jonas.
For now, they could only believe part of Hannah’s words but remain cautious.
However, Iris seemed unfazed by whatever tricks Hannah might pull. After selecting a guest room for Hannah, she went downstairs, taking Number Nine’s hand, "Let’s celebrate our discharge and go out for a meal today."
Number Nine nodded, looking at Lachlan, "Do you feel like having any particular cuisine?"
Lachlan replied, "Anything really, let’s go for some local cuisine, haven’t had it in a while, I miss the taste."
"I know a great restaurant!" Just as Sarah was about to speak up, standing outside the guest room, Hannah chimed in, "Brother, sister-in-law, can I come along?"
"..." Sarah thought to herself, they hadn’t intended to include Hannah in the conversation, who would have thought Hannah would force herself in, and not just that, she clung onto Lachlan’s arm, "You’ve been hospitalized for a month, you’ve endured a lot, such an event deserves a proper celebration including me."
Hannah, needing to butt in everywhere, made Peach and Sarah quite uncomfortable. Noelle and Gia, who hadn’t spoken a word, exchanged glances and shook their heads in helplessness.
Hannah was like chewing gum, impossible to shake off, never realizing how annoying she was. Right now, she even told Iris, "Sister-in-law will definitely take me along, right!"
Although she addressed Iris, her eyes were on Lachlan, as if waiting for Lachlan’s opinion.
"Sister-in-law is so kind, how could she leave me behind? Even if she doesn’t take me, Brother certainly would, right?"
"Not right."
Iris bluntly said, "Not taking you. You stay at home and house-sit, we didn’t count you in."
"..." Martin finally uttered a word, "Sweet."
