Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 38: Mockery
I stayed in the hospital for a week before being discharged. My injuries were mostly healed which surprised even the doctors.
Doctor Sam commented as she examined me for the last time, "For someone without a wolf, you heal pretty fast."
I couldn’t possibly tell her that I had a wolf, right? That would be a disaster. So, I made up an excuse.
"After suffering from different degrees of injuries over the years, my body has adapted and learned to repair itself. It isn’t every time I am injured that I get to visit the hospital."
Of course she didn’t believe me completely but she had no other choice. There wasn’t a better explanation for how fast my injuries had healed.
"Rest for two more days when you go back to facilitate complete healing." Doctor Sam advised but I knew that the advice wasn’t going to be followed.
The moment I walked back into the pack house, I would be assigned more duties. I wanted to know if the alpha ascension ceremony had taken place as scheduled.
The time I passed out in the washroom, it was said that there were two days until the ceremony, but for some reason, I haven’t heard anyone mention it again and I didn’t want to ask Anita who came to visit everyday. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
That would draw unnecessary attention towards me and it wasn’t something I was interested in.
Apart from the constant pain I experienced when Mike was going at it with Innocent, I didn’t know anything else.
I walked into the pack house and noticed a few changes. There were some decorations that have been added, making the house look like something a nouveau rich would own.
I couldn’t understand how anyone agreed to let the house be turned into such a mess, but it is none of my business.
My job was just to clean, nothing else.
I had just walked to the corridor heading to my damn room when several people surrounded me. I recognized them as Innocent’s lackeys and I wondered what they wanted now.
I just came back from the hospital and I didn’t want to go back.
"Oh...look who finally came back from vacation." Someone in the group said and the others followed in laughter.
I could hear the mockery even in their laughter.
I was admitted in the hospital after poisoning and then that beating that nearly took my life, yet they were saying I came back from vacation.
How ironic.
"Please let me pass." I said softly.
I had learned a long time ago that being aggressive didn’t pay. Although asking them to move aside could also invite a beating, I had no plans of standing there to waste time with them.
"Oh, she had learned to talk. I thought she was mute before." Another person mocked and just like before, the others laughed.
"What if we don’t move?" Another girl asked.
I was about to reply when I heard Anita’s voice from behind me. I didn’t know she had followed me all the way. After helping me to pack, I asked her to go do her own things. But it seems she was worried and came after me.
"If you don’t move, I’ll go and invite Alpha Karl here. He will surely thank you guys for coming to celebrate Valerie’s discharge." With just a few words, the group scattered.
I turned to look at Anita and raised an eyebrow.
"Why are they so afraid of Karl? They never used to be like this before." I asked Anita.
"I have no idea either, but in the last week, some of Innocent’s followers came to cause me trouble and every time I say it was Alpha Karl who ordered me to stay with you and take care of you, they would run like the devil was on their heels.
So, I have learned to use the tiger’s might to scare the monkeys." Anita explained and I realized that all this must have something to do with Innocent.
However, this was good, because they won’t go overboard in the future.
"Alright, you can go back then." I said to Anita before turning around and walking towards my room.
The room was the same as I had left it before. However, the musky smell was more prominent, probably because the small window had been closed the whole time I was in the hospital and the room hadn’t been cleaned.
I had my own cleaning tools in the small room and after opening the window and doing some cleaning, the smell was no longer overwhelming but the comforting musk I was used to.
I didn’t have lights in my room, which was why I used leftover candles for lighting, but I had a small socket I usually charged my old phone with.
Now, I didn’t have to worry about not being able to charge my laptop.
I had charged it in the hospital before leaving, so I could use it directly.
I knew that I would have to start working the next day, so I had only this day to do most of the things I wanted.
During the long week in the hospital, I had finally managed to learn how to hack servers remotely and exit without getting detected.
However, for servers with tight firewalls, I still couldn’t hack them. I had also found a mentor on the dark web who had been helping me to understand the things I found challenging.
They had given me small jobs to hack small companies, not to steal information, but just for practice.
Today, I wanted to try hacking into a medium sized company without the help of my mentor.
I spent an hour successfully hacking into the company, leaving a message saying hi, and exit just as their technical team responded.
For a beginner, I knew this was good, but I don’t want to be like other beginners. I don’t have that kind of luxury. I have to be better. Better than anyone else.
