Chapter 1788: Chapter 1788: I Will Not Forgive Him

Justin Battleson remained silent, simply holding Charlotte Thompson quietly.

He was much taller than Charlotte, so when he placed his chin on her shoulder, he had to hunch slightly, and this curled-up posture inexplicably gave off a sense of vulnerability.

Charlotte naturally knew what Justin was thinking.

Her gaze drifted to the plain white ceiling of the corridor, the stark color dizzying to the eyes.

This was a hospital, and the air should have been filled with the scent of disinfectant, yet when Charlotte took a deep breath, what she smelled was the same gloomy dampness as that in the secret room.

But Charlotte had already reached out and wrapped her arms around Justin’s back, even tightening her hold.

"What... are you planning to do?"

Justin had actually met Oliver Battleson earlier, but in the end, what allowed the father and son to finally sit face to face after all these years was still Charlotte.

Back then, Charlotte had secretly investigated the Battleson Family, leading to a quarrel with Justin.

Though Charlotte no longer concerned herself with the Battleson Family’s affairs afterward, Oliver hadn’t given up on seeking her out.

Because he wanted to use Charlotte to arrange a meeting between her and Justin.

Such was his hope, which finally materialized.

Justin initiated it.

That day, Justin talked with Oliver for a long time, but Charlotte didn’t know what they discussed and tactfully refrained from asking.

She only noticed a subtle change in Justin’s demeanor that day.

Perceiving Justin’s arms tightening gently around her, Charlotte pressed her cheek against Justin’s neck, softly nuzzling it.

"I won’t forgive him."

Finally, after a long silence, Justin calmly answered the question Charlotte had posed earlier.

Just as Justin finished speaking, the emergency room light went off.

The doctor came out and informed them that Oliver had pulled through and was no longer in critical condition.

Charlotte and Justin naturally went to the ward.

Oliver was extremely weak, the fatigue evident in his entire being, his cheeks sunken from the ordeal, making him look as if he had aged a decade.

Unexpectedly, after the successful surgery and transfer to a ward, Oliver regained consciousness.

It seemed there was some kind of obsession keeping him going.

When he saw Justin standing before him, his pupils trembled fiercely.

"Justin..."

Oliver’s voice was hoarse, as if sandpaper was constantly scraping against his throat.

He pressed his pale lips together, speaking with great effort as he called Justin’s name.

Justin didn’t say anything, just quietly watched the instruments displaying data beside the hospital bed.

"I’m sorry." Oliver’s lips quivered as he slowly uttered this sentence.

Though it was the simplest of three words, Oliver had kept them buried in his heart day and night.

He owed Justin too much.

"There’s no need to say that to me." Justin replied calmly.

He was no longer the child he once was; the resentment and grievance that had long been suppressed in his heart had slowly earted away over time.

Now, seeing Oliver, his emotions were nothing but calm.

"I know you won’t forgive me... cough, cough..." Oliver’s emotions were somewhat agitated, causing him to cough as he spoke.

"In the end, it was I who wronged your mother..."
