Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Living Island

Akaris watched as a gigantic head rose below the island, it was a turtle head larger than a house.

He ran to the edge of the island and looked down then realised the entire island he was standing on was just a massive turtle.

The turtle stood more than 60 metres tall, it legs looked like thick pillars of earth, each of its steps left deep prints on the ground.

The hard ground shook and cracked as the turtle moved. Akaris saw shadows swarming the turtle.

They were like ants that stretched to the horizon. They jumped and tried to climb the turtle.

He realised what they were immediately, they were bones, countless bones buried beneath the blood sea.

As the blood sea receded those bones rose from the dead and now they were attacking the giant turtle.

However none of their attacks managed to even shake it let alone pierce through it hard skin.

The turtle stomped on them shattering them into scattered pieces. Akaris say cross legged and tried to rest.

His body was still too exhausted to fight, if those skeletons managed to reach the top of the island turtle, he would be fucked.

His stomach rumbled, he was hungry but he had no food, then he turned his head and looked at the blood feaster.

That abomination did not look appetising in the slightest but if he doesn’t eat he won’t regain his strength.

If he doesn’t regain his strength then he’s definitely going to die in this place. He picked up his sword and started cutting what looked like edible parts.

Then came another problem, he had no fire nor did he have any means to make any unless he burnt some of the clothes he was wearing.

However doing so would leave him open to the natural elements, he could barely handle the cold as is.

Getting rid of his clothes would make his life in this cursed world even harder, even with his high stats.

Akaris was certain a normal human would die in this cold. After cutting a few pieces that looked edible and gathered them together he took a deep breath.

He picked up a piece of meat, it was white and soft like fish, then he closed his eyes and took a bite.

A wave of juices flooded his mouth and made him want to throw up. It tasted worse than it looked.

He closed his eyes and chewed with tears falling down, he had never in his tasted something so terrible.

It made him wonder if this was even edible, after barely chewing he swallowed. Then he felt a wave of energy.

His mana regenerated rapidly and he felt his strength return to his body as his stamina also regenerated.

Even though this thing tasted like saggy balls of hell fire, it was very nutritious, so he continued eating with a heavy heart.

Minutes passed and finally he had regenerated both his mana and stamina, fortunately the skeletons never reached him.

However that did not mean Akaris felt safe, on the contrary, he felt terrified because the turtle was the only living thing he saw around.

Meaning all of the skeletons for as fast as he could see were heading in this direction drawn by the turtle’s and probably his life force as well.

Ge sat down and checked his status screen again.

He had grown stronger in just a single night in this world, a testament of how gruelling the night was.

He ignored most of the notifications as they told him things he already knew and checked the definition of his new skills.

Well at least all notifications except one.

( Player has met the necessary conditions for the display of mana points on screen.)

He couldn’t understand why one needed to meet certain conditions to be able to see their own mana, it was strange rule.

More so if you consider the fact that he could instinctively tell how much mana he had ever since he gained mana hearts.

He also knew how spirits stat translate into mana. Each stat represented 10 points of mana.

Meaning with 50 spirits he had about 500 points of mana, plus the 1 000 from mana heart, his mana pool had grown much larger.

He could also tell or estimate how much mana each skill needed so the ability to display mana seemed pointless now, he continued to check his skills.

( Supreme Reflex - growth skill ( Rare) - gives user the ability to react to attacks much faster and instinctively like a cat.)

The description was simple enough, the ability didn’t sound powerful but Akaris could see its importance, he just didn’t know what growth skill meant.

( Mana Blade ( common)- Infuse a large amount of mana into the sword and shoot out a blade of light. Strength depends on how much mana is used.)

This one also sounded simple and straightforward, he knew it had a minimum amount of mana needed to use it.

But knowing he can make it stronger made him happy. With his large mana pool he could probably deliver some serious damage.

After all of them he did something else, he brought out his echo and sighed, when they fought this thing it looked so powerful.

Yet now it just felt very weak so he changed it for the blood feaster. Light particles gathered around him.

An echo that looked exactly like the blood feaster appeared next to him. He could feel its power.

While it wasn’t as powerful as the one he fought, it had probably lost only about 30 percent of its strength.

That still meant it was incredibly strong.
