Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 96: Flames of Jealousy Devour Reason
Miles Monroe’s gaze fell on Vera Yves’ exquisite face.
Vera gave Zoe Monroe a smile, sizing her up, "You’re also very beautiful."
Seeing the smile on her face, Miles got slightly distracted for a moment.
After exchanging a few words with the person next to him, Miles came over to greet Hannah Hayes and then looked at Vera with a smile, "Vera, I’m really happy you could come."
Vera smiled helplessly, "Grandpa Monroe personally called me, how could I not come?"
The group walked into the banquet hall together.
Miles went off to greet others, Hannah saw some acquaintances and went over to greet them too, while Vera and Zoe took their seats.
Vera took off her coat and placed it on her chair.
"Vera, your dress is from D-brand’s new early spring haute couture collection, right? It’s so beautiful."
Vera hadn’t been paying much attention to fashion lately, but since Hannah managed to get this dress, she must have really spent a lot.
Zoe leaned in close to her secretly, "It matches my cousin’s suit really well, like a couple’s outfit."
Vera helplessly poked her forehead, "Stop matchmaking randomly."
Zoe frowned, looking at the woman chatting with Miles not far away, disdainfully saying, "Just had a blind date with my cousin last week, he already said they weren’t suitable, and she’s still clinging on! Doesn’t she know any shame?"
Vera glanced over, her gaze landing on the woman’s exquisite profile. In this circle, with their noble backgrounds, who isn’t full of themselves?
To be able to keep this up after being rejected surely takes immense courage too.
"If you want something, go after it, that’s not a bad thing."
"Vera, you clearly wrote a love letter, why doesn’t my cousin know about it?"
Vera replied earnestly, "Because it was so poorly written, I didn’t dare to give it to him."
Zoe’s eyes widened, "How could that be?"
Vera was amused by her reaction, "Alright, where’s Grandpa Monroe? I want to give him his gift."
The two of them stood up together.
Vera’s backless gown was adorned with only two pearl chains, leaving her fair back exposed to the air.
She had only taken a few steps before all eyes in the vicinity were drawn to her.
Those who knew her marveled at how she had reached new heights of beauty, while those who didn’t might mistake her for a star.
Miles’ gaze deepened as he watched her back.
Vera followed Zoe over to Old Master Monroe, handing him a gift box, "Grandpa Monroe, wishing you good fortune as vast as the sea and a long life as old as the mountains, good health."
Old Master Monroe accepted the gift with a smile, pointing to the spot next to him, "Vera, sit here with grandpa."
People around reacted with varying expressions, given that everyone at this table was part of The Monroes.
Vera whispered, "Grandpa Monroe, this table is full of elders. If I sit here, I definitely won’t get enough to eat."
"You little rascal."
Vera smiled and greeted The Monroe elders before turning to leave.
Just as the two were about to return to their seats, they ran into Winston Valentine and Cecilia Vaughn.
Winston was in a sapphire blue suit, Cecilia in a wine-red velvet gown, a perfect match.
As they crossed paths, many around them turned to watch, eagerly anticipating a confrontation.
Winston’s gaze fell on Vera’s face; she truly looked radiant tonight, his gaze lingered on the fair skin of her chest, finding the neckline of her dress almost scandalously low.
Cecilia took Winston’s arm, smiling at Vera, "Seems like those reports weren’t baseless after all. You’ve really latched onto The Monroe Family. So, are you planning to climb into Miles’ bed this time?"
Zoe looked at her angrily, "Who invited you here? Get out!"
"Miss Vaughn, are you aware of your own status?" Cecilia said calmly, "The Valentine Family and The Monroe Family have always been on good terms. Are you going to sour relations between our families for the sake of Vera?"
Cecilia looked at Vera disdainfully, "The one you should kick out is Vera. After all, her status doesn’t fit this place at all!"
"I wonder what identity Miss Vaughn is using to attend tonight’s banquet?" Miles walked up behind Vera, naturally wrapping her in a coat.
His usually gentle eyes now filled with a coldness, "As the sixth Miss of The Valentine Family or as a homewrecker?"
Cecilia’s face turned from pale to flushed, "They’ve already divorced!"
Miles retorted with a mocking smile, "Indeed, thanks to you. But I wonder, with such fanfare, how does your father feel about this?"
Trevor Valentine stood not far away, his face livid, muttering something to Samantha Warren before turning to leave.
Samantha beckoned to Cecilia, "Cecilia, come over to mommy."
Cecilia didn’t want to move.
Winston gently pushed her hand away, whispering, "If you don’t want to keep embarrassing yourself, just go."
Cecilia, hearing this, looked somewhat pale but ended up walking over to Samantha.
Winston calmly followed an attendant to find his seat.
Vera softly thanked Miles, and everyone began to sit down.
Miles joined Old Master Monroe’s table, chatting and laughing with the elders with a natural elegance and composure.
Vera and Zoe sat together, still able to hear the gossip around them.
"Who do you think Miles will have his first dance with later?"
"Probably someone from The Hills Family. They seemed to be getting along well just now."
"I heard his ex-girlfriend was Jane Shea, a top-tier beauty."
Zoe whispered in a low voice, "What’s so top-tier about her? Clearly, you’re better looking!"
Vera smiled at her, "Your taste is too subjective."
"No way! I saw so many people staring at you with unblinking eyes! Vera, today you’re not just beautiful, you’re stunningly sexy!"
Zoe looked at Vera’s low-cut evening gown, paired with her gorgeous face, no man could resist being bewitched.
After the meal, Zoe got called away, leaving Vera seated, watching from a distance as Miles stood beside Penelope Langley, facing his blind date and another elder.
The music started playing, and Penelope gave Miles a playful push.
Vera stood up, planning to stealthily slip away. She really wasn’t in the mood for socializing. As Mrs. Valentine she had no choice, but as Miss Yves, didn’t she have at least that much freedom?
But she had only taken a few steps before someone blocked her path.
Miles smiled as he extended his hand toward her, "Vera, can you accompany me for the first dance?"
Vera looked at him in surprise, "I don’t want to be the center of attention."
"A favor," Miles said, clasping her fingertips, and before Vera could react, he had already handed her coat to a nearby attendant.
The two of them walked into the dance floor, instantly causing an uproar.
Vera wanted to leave, but Miles’ hand wrapped around her slender waist, firmly holding her back.
With the dress being backless, his dry hand was directly against her soft skin.
Instinctively, Vera wanted to draw away.
Miles’ hand trembled slightly, hesitating for a few seconds before he held her hand, "If you leave me now, I’ll be humiliated." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The beautiful dance music began to play.
Vera was slightly lost in thought, not expecting that the moment she had once envisioned so many times had become reality, her eyes slightly reddening.
The two of them moved gracefully to the music, a picture of beauty.
Winston sat among the crowd, watching Miles’ hand on her smooth skin, gripping his glass tightly.
No one knows better than him how tender and smooth her skin is!
Thinking about the fact that she would no longer belong to him, that she’d be enchanting under another man’s touch, jealousy burned through his rationality like fire.
He thought he could...
The music ended, and before they could step out of the dance floor, the doors to the banquet hall opened, and a figure walked in under the crowd’s astonished gaze.
"Sorry, I hope I’m not too late."
