Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 140: Standing Up for Justice
Although Ding Anmin spoke bluntly, she was serious and meticulous in her work. Just judging from her housework and her enthusiasm for work back in the brigade, Yi Roujing found it strange that Ding Anmin would mess up someone else’s wages and receipts, and moreover...
"Have you started handling the distribution of wages and receipts by yourself now?" Yi Roujing asked. "That can’t be right. Wages and receipts were all distributed some time ago, so why is someone giving you trouble about it today?"
"The wages and receipts were handled by Peng, but the union chairman’s daughter got married and took some time off just a few days ago. She only returned to work at the union today."
"When she came to the finance department to collect wages and receipts, Peng wasn’t there, but Peng had explained this in advance, so I was the one to give them to her," Ding Anmin muttered softly.
"Then how could you make a mistake?" Yi Roujing found it odd, "Since the list was prepared in advance, you couldn’t have counted the money wrong."
"The mistake was on the list," Ding Anmin said in a low voice.
Yi Roujing frowned slightly, "The mistake was on the list, what’s it got to do with you? You didn’t make it. Didn’t you say anything?"
"But it’s strange. Has the union chairman’s daughter’s salary changed? Otherwise, why is there a mistake on the list that’s prepared every month?" Yi Roujing asked.
"What did Peng say?" Yi Roujing pressed on.
"Peng apologized to me, saying she was careless, which is why the mistake happened, and I ended up bearing the brunt of it," Ding Anmin said, lowering her head.
"Wow—" Yi Roujing grabbed Ding Anmin by the wrist and strode forward, "Where’s the union office? Show me the way."
"No, don’t get worked up, it’s not a big deal," Ding Anmin tried to stop her. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"You call this nothing?" Yi Roujing chided, "If you don’t fight back after being bullied once, there’ll be a second, third time. People always pick on the weak. If you can’t stand up for yourself, I’ll stand up for you. Ridiculous."
"Don’t worry about me. I was personally recruited by Mr. Chen, even the factory director can’t meddle with the workers’ hospital," Yi Roujing reassured her. "Besides, no need to worry about my third brother. If the factory plays the guilt by association game, I’d march straight to the county government to protest. Let’s see who County Magistrate Lou would support; I’ve been personally commended in an official document from the city."
Ding Anmin, watching Yi Roujing pulling her forward, felt a pang of emotion, both grievance and gratitude.
"What’s the name of the person who hit you?" Yi Roujing asked insistently.
"Jiang Xuemei," Ding Anmin obediently answered.
The union office was in the same two-story building as the factory office, with the union occupying three offices on the right side of the first floor. Jiang Xuemei was a regular union worker in the large office.
Yi Roujing swung open the door to the union’s large office. The room was full of people; it was work time, with lunch at twelve, still five minutes away.
"Jiang Xuemei," Yi Roujing scanned the room and called out loudly, "Which one is Jiang Xuemei?"
A woman in her twenties, wearing a red shirt and white pants with her hair stylishly curled, stood up. She had a fashionable look.
Her appearance was quite pleasing, but her downcast eyes revealed a hint of arrogance.
"I’m Jiang Xuemei, who are you?" Jiang Xuemei asked, noticing Yi Roujing’s striking appearance in a nurse’s uniform; surely, she would remember if they had met before, so she knew this was their first meeting.
"You’re the one who hit someone," Yi Roujing said, pulling Ding Anmin over and tilting her face to show the red handprint.
"I wondered who it could be. So, are you her relative, sticking up for her? She made a mistake, and I just..."
"Even if she made a mistake, do you have the right to hit her? Who gave you that right, your chairman father?" Yi Roujing smirked sarcastically.
Jiang Xuemei was taken aback, then grew indignant, "What nonsense are you spouting."
"Then what gives you the right to hit her," Yi Roujing demanded loudly. "Our Anmin is cherished at home, and on her first day at the factory, she meets someone as unreasonable as you."
"How can someone with your conduct work in the union? The union serves the workers. Having someone like you hit workers, is our food factory’s union going to change its nature and not benefit the workers now but rather bully them?"
Yi Roujing’s words made everyone in the office change their expressions. It was a serious accusation, yet they couldn’t refute it immediately.
"You, you, you’re talking nonsense," Jiang Xuemei was speechless and could only utter this in rebuttal.
"Then give your reasons," Yi Roujing didn’t intend to drop the matter.
"She miscalculated my wages and receipts. She didn’t do her job properly, she..."
"Our Anmin works in finance. You know she’s a temp, which is why you dared to act so recklessly," Yi Roujing retorted. "Since you know, you should also know that an official worker creates the factory’s wage lists."
"Why not go to the one who made the list instead of picking on Anmin? She gave you your wages and receipts according to the list; she surely told you that."
"I—I only found out afterwards," Jiang Xuemei replied, holding her head high.
"Did you apologize?" Yi Roujing asked with a stern face.
"I—I... I’m sorry," Jiang Xuemei said, trying not to look surprised, knowing she couldn’t get out of it without apologizing. She lowered her head.
"Hmph, if an apology was enough, why do we need the union," Yi Roujing sneered. "I’ll report this matter; the leadership will decide how to handle it."
"Hey, I’ve already apologized, what more do you want," Jiang Xuemei protested.
"Settling privately is an option," Yi Roujing said, pulling Ding Anmin along, "Anmin, hit her back for me. Whatever hand she used, use the same one."
"Sister-in-law," Ding Anmin secretly tugged at Yi Roujing’s sleeve.
"Hey, why are you so unreasonable?"
"Do you deserve to reason with me?" Yi Roujing glanced at Jiang Xuemei.
"What’s going on?" Several people entered the union office, and Ding Anmin felt a bit anxious, thinking this was getting out of hand.
"Director Ni, Chairman Jiang," people in the office greeted them respectfully.
"Why is there shouting in the office during working hours," Chairman Jiang frowned at the trio, "Is this nurse from the workers’ hospital? Why are you here?"
"Chairman Jiang, hello, I’m Yi Roujing, a nurse from the workers’ hospital. Today, I came with my sister-in-law to seek justice from Jiang Xuemei. Look at my sister-in-law’s face; it was Jiang Xuemei who hit her without knowing the situation," Yi Roujing said with conviction.
