Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Clingy Sleeping姿

Unexpectedly, this time when they met again, the look in Yi Roujing’s eyes towards him was different, and Ding Ancheng wasn’t sure if this was what he had hoped for.

"Umm—" The person beside him turned over, facing him, with an arm and leg sticking out from under the covers. Ding Ancheng frowned, tucking the person back in, only to have them snuggle right up to him, sleeping in his arms.

All that was visible was a head, the face white with a hint of pink, warm breath seemingly carrying a touch of sweetness. Seeing this, Ding Ancheng averted his gaze, gently pushing the person a bit further in, and Yi Roujing naturally rolled over.

Ding Ancheng didn’t know when he fell asleep, but when he woke up again, it was pitch dark outside, and there was pressure on his chest and legs.

Yi Roujing’s right hand and leg were draped over him, covered by the blanket, though he wasn’t sure when they had slipped out. Ding Ancheng reached out and touched them, finding them cold.

Recalling what Ding Anmin had told him, knowing that Yi Roujing had recently fallen into the water and gotten sick, he sighed, tucking her back under the blanket. She finally settled down, no longer sticking her hands and feet out, just curling up against him like a little bundle.

When Yi Roujing woke up, she felt amazingly warm. Opening her eyes, she was startled to see a handsome face right in front of her, blinking in confusion before suddenly sitting up after a while.

Even though they each had their own blanket, they had been completely snuggled together. Sharing a bed and pillow like this, what was going on...

When Yi Roujing noticed that half of the space on the inside of the brown cot was empty, she felt embarrassed enough that her eyes nearly popped out. She glanced back at Ding Ancheng a few times and, seeing he was still asleep, let out a long sigh of relief. She carefully lay back down and rolled inward a couple of times.

He didn’t notice, didn’t notice. Thankfully, he didn’t notice.

Almost as soon as Yi Roujing was settled, Ding Ancheng opened his eyes and looked inward, meeting Yi Roujing’s smiling eyes. Of course, the guilty conscience in her gaze was obvious upon closer inspection.

"Haha, good morning," Yi Roujing immediately greeted him.

Ding Ancheng glanced at her briefly before withdrawing his gaze, getting up quietly to put the blanket back into the cabinet, and walking towards the door.

Just when Yi Roujing thought he wouldn’t answer, he paused, said "morning," and then opened the door to leave.

At least he’s polite. Yi Roujing threw off the blanket, feeling comfortable and unrestrained, and began doing push-ups until she stopped at thirty.

When Yi Roujing went outside, the Ding Family had already woken up. Ding Anmin greeted her with a mischievous wink, "Awake? How did you sleep last night?"

"It was okay," Yi Roujing replied evasively.

"Go wash up. After breakfast, we’ll head to work." Ding Anmin didn’t tease her any further.

"Oh," Yi Roujing nodded.

Breakfast consisted of white rice porridge, and Li Hongying had also steamed some sweet potatoes.

"Let’s make a pot of red sugar longan eggs, with one egg per person and a bowl each," Yi Roujing suggested upon seeing what Li Hongying was preparing for breakfast.

Li Hongying paused while handling the steamed sweet potatoes, glanced back at Yi Roujing, and gently suggested, "We’ve been eating quite well these past few days. It’s better to save the good stuff for later. Today I cooked white rice porridge, without any wild vegetables, and it’s thicker, too."

"We’ll have to eat it eventually, and besides, I discussed it with Anmin yesterday. It’s rare for the whole family to be here," Yi Roujing replied. "If we don’t finish the sweet potatoes, we can have them for lunch or dinner."

Li Hongying nodded at this, cleaned the pot used for steaming sweet potatoes, and began to cook the red sugar longan eggs. She broke open only a few dried longans, as these were more precious than the sugar and eggs.

When Ding Anmin entered the kitchen, the aroma of red sugar eggs was already wafting through the air. Her eyes shone, and she ran behind Li Hongying to peep into the pot where six eggs lay, tinted brown by the sweet broth and garnished with floating strands of egg whites and scattered longan flesh, looking appetizing indeed.

"Mom, did she ask for this?" Ding Anmin asked with a low chuckle.

"Mhm, you little glutton. Did you ask your sister-in-law yourself?" Li Hongying glared at her daughter.

"Hey, I didn’t ask for it; she offered!" Ding Anmin pouted slightly. "I guess we’re benefiting from Big Brother."

Everyone had a bowl of red sugar longan egg soup for breakfast. Yi Roujing also downed a bowl of white porridge with pickles and ate a piece of sweet potato.

"Today’s breakfast is so abundant. It’s been ages since I ate red sugar eggs, not to mention longans. Hmm, it’s really sweet," Ding Anguo said, beaming with joy as he ate. "I’ll definitely have plenty of energy for work today."

This morning, for once Ding Ancheng wasn’t going with them to gather pig grass. Yi Roujing and Ding Anmin busied themselves all morning, almost filling five baskets with grass. When they returned, having delivered the pig grass, Li Hongying was already at home, kneading dough in the kitchen.

"Mom, are we having mantou for lunch?" Ding Anmin asked excitedly.

"Yes, one each for us. The rest is for Ancheng to take to school. I’m not sure how the school meals are, but I noticed that he looks thinner this time he has come back," Li Hongying said with concern, but immediately went quiet after speaking, glancing back at Yi Roujing and sighing in relief when she saw no reaction.

Of course, Yi Roujing noticed Li Hongying’s demeanor but didn’t care much. She wasn’t the original ’herself’ desperately wanting to go to the county with Ding Ancheng. If she had to go, it would be on her own merits.

"Anmin, take this to Bai Wei," Li Hongying handed over a clay bowl with three wheat mantou inside.

"Okay," Ding Anmin nodded, putting the clay bowl into a basket and covering it with a coarse cloth.

Bai Wei?

Yi Roujing asked Ding Anmin, "Is she the Bai Wei Auntie who saved me?"

"Yes." Ding Anmin nodded, studying Yi Roujing with a serious expression. "She’s your lifesaver. Now that you’re awake, you ought to thank her personally. Do you want to come with me?"

"Alright," Yi Roujing agreed and left with Ding Anmin.

Li Hongying watched Yi Roujing’s back as she left. Ever since the incident in the water, this daughter-in-law of hers had indeed grown a bit more sensible.

Looking at the basket in Ding Anmin’s hands, Yi Roujing felt a bit awkward and thus stayed quiet.

"Why so silent?" Ding Anmin, not used to the quietness of Yi Roujing, asked, "Don’t you want to go?"

"No," Yi Roujing answered honestly. "Did you thank Bai Wei Auntie on my behalf before?"

Ding Anmin rolled her eyes and pouted, "Of course, it was quite the hassle. You were lying sick in bed, and it was exhausting for us, getting you medicine, wiping your sweat, covering you with blankets— and we still had to thank her."

"Thank you," Yi Roujing said sincerely.

Ding Anmin gave her a look and waved it off, "No need for that. Just try to keep your temper in check from now on, like you have these past few days."

"You’ve been a normal person these past few days. Keep it up, and I think if you continue like this, my brother will eventually be won over by you; after all, you’re quite pretty." Ding Anmin said seriously.
