Gu ZhaoChuan had practically vanished off the face of the earth lately—completely untraceable.

Well, not entirely untraceable. He still showed up every morning, but where he went or what he did afterward, no one knew.

HuMing hadn’t made a point of investigating either. To him, Gu ZhaoChuan wasn’t exactly someone important.

His guess was that Gu ZhaoChuan had hit a dead end trying to find Shi Zhong too.

HuMing had done a bit of digging himself and found that Shi Zhong had been living abroad for years—rarely, if ever, setting foot in the country. Finding him wouldn’t be easy unless he was dragged back in person.

And to make that happen, the whole of JingDu would need to spiral into chaos—especially the Gu family.

The other side was controlling Gu WeiYi, and the key to all of this seemed to lie with that attending doctor.

HuMing figured it was about time he paid the doctor a visit to see what kind of man he really was.

After school, HuMing once again made his way to JingDu—but this time, he wasn’t alone. Xia XiaoXi was with him.

She was still wrapped up in her usual layers of concealment, so no one paid her much attention or guessed her identity.

When Ye QiuXue came out, she was visibly curious about the unfamiliar girl standing beside HuMing. She was about to approach and ask when the girl beat her to it.

Before Ye QiuXue could react, the girl stepped forward and hugged her.

"QiuXue, it’s been too long!"

The voice was so familiar that Ye QiuXue froze for a second—then disbelief swept across her face.

"XiaoXi?! What are you doing back in JingDu? Isn’t it almost finals season?"

"Hehe, mostly I just missed you. Thought I’d come and see you."

The moment the two girls reunited, they immediately launched into conversation. HuMing, meanwhile, spotted Shi Ren in the distance. After a brief glance in his direction, Shi Ren turned and started walking off.

Without hesitation, HuMing followed him.

They didn’t walk far before Shi Ren stopped beside a tree. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it. Lifting his head, he fixed HuMing with a sharp, assessing stare.

"I heard from Ye QiuXue you were looking for me. Something important?"

"The Shi family’s aware of your existence now. They’re going to pretend not to know what happened with Shi Dan. But what I want to know is, why are you back in JingDu? Shouldn’t you be living it up as the Han family’s young master?"

"Isn’t that obvious? I’m a Gu family member. Where else would I go if not home?"

"Cut the act, HuMing. Everyone knows your return as Gu ZhouXing’s grandson is full of red flags. Who are you, really?" Shi Ren’s eyes darkened—clearly, he was taking HuMing’s presence seriously.

HuMing met his gaze, calm but probing.

"You’re with 'Blizzard.' So why are you working for the Shi family? Did they make a deal with 'Blizzard' too?"

"No. I’m trying to destroy 'Blizzard', that’s why I’ve joined forces with the Shi family. I don’t know what you’re doing in the Gu family, but the Gu and Bai families are in partnership. If you get in my way, I won’t hesitate to remove you."

HuMing frowned. Did Shi Ren think the Gu family was helping 'Blizzard'? Was that why he was here with this warning? Then why seek him out specifically?

"Shi Ren, just answer me one thing. Is Shi Zhong the one pulling your strings?"

"My relationship with Shi Zhong is purely cooperative. He helps me take down 'Blizzard'. I help him with his business. That’s all."

"Then do you know he’s targeting the Xia family?"

"Not my concern."

"But it is mine."

HuMing struck out with a sudden kick.

Shi Ren blocked it with one arm and shoved HuMing back hard.

He stared at HuMing, shaking out his stinging arm.

That kick had come fast. If he hadn’t been ready, he’d be on the ground by now.

For the first time, Shi Ren realized how dangerous this boy was.

"I’m not interested in your personal drama. But if you’re messing with the Xia family, I’m not standing by."

"I’m not involved with them. If anything, this is all tied to 'Blizzard.'" Shi Ren’s eyes were cold, guarded.

"You know their plan?"

"I don’t. But I do know something big is going to happen at your banquet. That night, JingDu is going to change. If you still want to save people, you’d better start preparing now."

He picked up his bag and turned to leave.

HuMing called after him, unable to understand.

"Why are you telling me this? Aren’t you working with Shi Zhong?"

"I’ve had it with his son. This is just a little payback." Shi Ren didn’t even glance back. He just kept walking, leaving HuMing staring at his retreating figure.

For some reason, HuMing couldn’t shake the feeling that Shi Ren bore him some hidden grudge.

From his actions just now, he seemed somewhat frustrated, and even though he was attacked by him, he had no intention of retaliating.

HuMing had never met someone quite so strange.

He shook his head and turned back toward the two girls.

The pair had linked arms and were now walking toward him together.

"HuMing, let’s have hot pot tonight!"

"Yeah! It’s been forever since I had real JingDu spicy hot pot. I’m going all in today."

Apparently, both girls had a soft spot for hot pot—and HuMing had no way to say no.

The three of them left Third High together.

Not long after they walked out the gates, a boy near the entrance dialed Shi Dan’s number.

"Brother Shi, I saw that guy at school again today. But this time, he brought some girl to see Ye QiuXue. Should I keep following?"

"Follow them. Get a picture of that other girl. I want to see just how many girls HuMing’s got chasing after him!"

Shi Dan’s voice was venomous.

He’d been grounded by his grandfather lately—not even allowed to attend classes.

All because of HuMing.

But he’d already decided—once chaos erupted in the Gu family, he’d make sure every person close to HuMing suffered for it.

He clenched his pen so hard it snapped in two.

Shi Ren didn’t head straight home.

Instead, he made his way to a high-end restaurant.

A waiter opened the door for him—and inside, he found a familiar face.

"So, I assume you’ve met HuMing? He’s bound to be a threat to our plans, isn’t he?"

"Gu ZhaoChuan, you’re just trying to use me to deal with him." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"You’re working with Shi Zhong—and now, you’re working with me too. He’s using me? Then I’ll turn around and use your deal with him to keep him in check."

Gu ZhaoChuan wore a warm, easy smile. To everyone else, he was always the perfect gentleman.

But today, that smile seemed to say: You're not the only player in this game.
