Chapter 192: Rachel [ 4 ]

"H-Hey now. We made a contract, remember? You can’t hurt me."

A faint smile appeared on Rachel’s face.

Before I could even react, a flash of light blinded me. A moment later, I found myself embedded several meters into a wall. On the other hand, Rachel was lying on the ground, seemingly unconscious.

But just a second later, she rose from the ground and rubbed her eyes.

Only then did I realize that she somehow knew how to bypass the contract. Albeit, judging from how plainly she was looking at me, and how there was no intent behind any of her movements, I knew she only did this just now to show me that she could do it.

"Is this your way of paying me back?" I asked.

I glanced down and realized there was a huge hole in my abdomen. Had I been a normal person, I would’ve already been dead.

But since I wasn’t a normal person, the wound began to quickly mend itself. In just a few moments, my skin was as smooth as porcelain again.

"I merely wanted to strike you once for all the times you’ve struck me," Rachel said.

Hearing that, I bowed slightly.

"My bad..."

"It is indeed your bad. But enough about you. Do you know the location of my sister?"

I shook my head.

"I don’t. The only clue I can give you is that I met her—"

"I know where you met her. I was there with you."

At her interruption, I furrowed my brows.

"There with me?"

"I can see through your eyes at very long distances. The only time I felt detached from you was when you participated in that ritual. So that’s where you met her? I will be going now."

I felt like a weight had finally been taken off my shoulders.

"I still didn’t get the reward from Elise after I freed you."

Rachel tilted her head.

"You’ll get it the moment she lays her eyes on me. As for you and me, I will be visiting you soon, as there’s something important I must tell you."

"What? Just tell me now," I said.

But the moment I blinked, Rachel was already gone. I couldn’t even feel any trace of her energy, which probably meant she just used her raw strength.

Now that she left, I finally realized the severity of what I’ve just unleashed.

On one end, I’d already made my mind up about this a few days ago.

It still didn’t make it any easier knowing I probably just unleashed a Grade 80 or 90 being. Maybe even higher?

Anyhow...

I needed to deal with another problem, and that’s Clementine, who I’d told I’d be back soon.

Perhaps she’s a little bit scarier than Rachel and Elise.

With that in mind, I quickly navigated out of the sewers. Once I was out, I was prepared to fly toward the library I had bought for Clementine, but it didn’t take long for me to spot her just down the street, eating a bagel with a sour look on her face.

The moment she turned toward me, my body stiffened. She raised her hand and playfully gestured for me to approach. All the while, her warm smile didn’t make me feel any less anxious.

So I approached her and then sat down. I didn’t say anything, but not like I had to.

"My, my... Amon, just how long did you think you were gone for?"

"Two days...?"

"Five days," she corrected.

Her smile became even wider.

Seeing that, I lowered my head, feeling guilty.

"My bad. I didn’t know it was going to take that long."

"You should feel bad. Can you imagine how boring it was to not do anything for almost a full week but read, read, and read even more?"

"Isn’t that what you’ve been doing before, though?" I questioned.

She narrowed her eyes.

"I did that because I knew when I’d get back home, you’d be waiting for me. I felt like I was alone again, so next time, even if you tell me to back off, I’ll be following you."

I grumbled, feeling defeated.

Arguing was definitely not something I wanted to do here, so I just waited for her to finish eating. Right when I thought it was over and done with, she went ahead and ordered more food, then even more.

I reached for a bagel, but she just wagged her finger at me.

"You won’t be eating until we get to my parents’ house. That’s your punishment."

"Starving me is punishment...?"

Did she turn from a caring girlfriend to a straight up yandere?

Not that I mind, though.

Yanderes are cool.

"Heh. I won’t force you to watch me eat all this delicious food, so I’ll just get it to go."

In the next instant, all her food was sucked up into her dimensional ring. When she stood up and gestured for me to follow, that’s exactly what I did.

We took some weird routes and turns. Eventually, we reached the center of Lenice. To my genuine surprise, there were two posters on the bounty board, and they not only had my face, but also Clementine’s.

Under those posters, I was surprised to see a bounty of 700,000 gold coins under our names.

It was previously around 650,000, so to increase by another 50,000... someone really wanted us dead.

But why was no one attacking us?

Ever since I stepped foot into the city, and while we were eating, I felt several dozen gazes, all watching our every move.

The detail on those bounties was also really good. It showed my face as Amon and my face as Mikael. The same went for Clementine, who had both her face and Evangeline’s.

Could they actually be afraid of us?

For once, it looked like our reputation preceded us.

Hehe.

Or that’s what I thought, until Clementine revealed something.

"There’s been hundreds of powerful people trying to enter this city, but I’ve been stopping them with my Soul Knights. Let’s leave now, since I’m using way too much energy."
