Chapter 15: Chapter 15:Traveling [3]
"Alright, then."
Nodding my head, I turned back around and headed towards the bulletin board, making my way through the crowd to get a good view.
Although the town's population was relatively small, the bulletin board seemed to be packed with requests, as some posters couldn't even fit on the board and were hanging off.
The area around this town had to be safe, as people constantly traveled from it to the other two popular cities, so it also made some sense.
Examining the board, I quickly found a couple of E-rank requests with rewards of one silver coin; however, all of them were clearly time-consuming and dirty quests that no one else wanted to do.
After a minute, I finally found a monster E-rank quest, so I immediately grabbed it off the wall and headed back to the receptionist's desk.
Seemingly waiting for me, the receptionist, with a nametag that I could now read as "Liana," tapped her foot up and down as I approached.
Snatching the paper out of my hands, Liana stared at my paper with an infuriated expression for some reason.
As she began reading the paper, her face immediately transformed as she looked up and said.
"Oh, I thought you would be one of those people who can't take "no" as an answer and try a C-rank quest."
Scratching the top of my hood as if I were scratching my hair, I smiled before asking.
"Of course not. But, could I get a map of the city and the surrounding area?"
Nodding her head, Liana reached back and grabbed a piece of paper before handing it to me.
As I took the paper and recalled the reward signs of the other posters on the bulletin board, I smiled and asked.
"...would you let me try a C-rank quest if I did t-"
"No, just go already."
Handing me back the poster I had taken, Liana flicked her thumb in the direction of the building's exit, signaling for me to leave.
Exiting the Adventure Guild build, I immediately sprinted away from the warp gate and marketplace, avoiding the disgusting scent of all the humans grouped together.
How the hell was I supposed to survive at the academy, where thousands of students were crammed together when I couldn't even stand the smell in this town?
Money. I needed money.
With money, I could probably purchase a magical artifact that would negate the terrible smell of the humans around me.
Glancing downward, I quickly scanned through the poster, making sure I was heading in the right direction.

"Help Required: Swarm of Dark Pixies spotted just outside of town, on the southern side of the forest."
"Rank Required: E-rank or higher. Full Party of five people recommended."
"Reward: 1 Silver Coins."
Pixie swarms were considered the weakest of the weakest, so as I walked through the city gates, officially leaving Ezria, my confidence was at an all-time high.
Despite its reward, this quest probably hadn't been picked up because killing pixies was infuriating and time-consuming, even though they did close to zero damage.
Slightly slower than regular birds, dark pixies fly around in the air with their crimson-red wings, making them difficult to hit, while occasionally shooting dark pin missiles at their pursuer.
Fortunately, I had just the ability to use on them.
As I walked out of town, a massive plain appeared in front of me, and in the distance, I could see the aforementioned forest, which seemed to stretch on for miles.
Dark oak trees were crammed so tightly together that the sun's rays could barely reach the forest floor, creating a gloomy and dark atmosphere within the forest.
Shielding my eyes from the sun with my hand, I ignored the strange glances from the carriages passing by and continued straight.
To everyone, I probably looked like a madman.
Despite the insanely hot temperature, I was dressed in a baggy, massive, pitch-black cloak, and a heavy cloth covered my face.
Putting my head down, I continued on until I finally reached the start of the forest, which was actually quite cool.
The densely packed forest did not allow much sunlight through its branches and leaves, and the occasional breeze felt like heaven.
Looking down at the map, I navigated through the forest for a couple of minutes before finally spotting some abnormalities.
Some of the trees were marked with scratch marks, and branches were cut short in certain areas.
It looked...almost mystical.
The sunlight shone through the cut branches, creating an illuminated and bright circle in the middle of the dark forest floor.
*FLAP*
*FLAP*
*FLAP*
The faint sound of wings crashing together echoed throughout the silent forest, instantly attracting my attention.
Grabbing my pen, I pushed down on its top, and like magic, the pen seemed to transform as a blade came out of its bottom, surging down toward the ground, while the top of the pen converted into the sword's hilt.
Within seconds, the blood-red blade of my katana was in front of me, dazzling under the sun's rays.
Crouching, I moved through the bushes within the forest, slowly approaching the flapping sound in the forest.
Then, as I glanced upward, I suddenly saw four small figures levitating right above me, just below a tree.
The pixies, dressed in dark purple attire, had light-purple skin, and their signature purple boots hung from their feet.
If I sprung up into the air, I could probably kill one, but the others would undoubtedly get away before I could recover.
What made pixies so hard to kill was that, instead of attacking humans, they simply flew away while occasionally turning around to shoot.
And, right where you got close enough to hit them, they would suddenly drop their dark-purple, heavy boots and speed up.
In other words, I had one chance to do this right.
If they got away now, I wasn't sure I'd be able to find them again.
As I thought the name "Phantom Mirage" in my head, I felt a portion of mana instantly disappear.
Within seconds, five identical clones, each wielding a blood-red katana, appeared crouching next to me inside the bush.
