Chapter 25: Chapter 25:Fees [2]

Being the same color as the light-blue sky above, the sword slash surged forward, unaffected by gravity and the wind.

The wind slash made contact with the troll not even a second later, instantly causing a shockwave to erupt throughout the forest.

Keeping my gaze on the scene ahead, I raised my arms, forming an "X" in front of my head, as a gust of strong wind rushed against my face and threatened to throw me backward.

In front of me, the wind slash and troll stayed still while touching each other, seemingly fighting for control.

As the branches of trees flew back and broke off, the troll's body slowly began to sway backward under the pressure of the wind slash.

Ultimately, it was the troll who lost.

A moment later, the creature finally lost balance and fell backward, collapsing atop tens of trees.

There would now be a massive plain amid the forest.

Also running out of steam, the wind slash flew forward, over the troll's body, for a couple of seconds before finally dispersing.

Simultaneously, after reaching the apex of her leap, she began to descend.

However, defying gravity just like her slash, she slowly fell down while moving forward as if she were descending a staircase.

Under each of her shoes was a small wind current that could barely be seen, slowing her fall, until she eventually reached the ground.

Just like the hero, who had been blessed by the God of Purity, she had been selected by the God of the Sky.

Pausing for a moment, I stared at the troll's dead body, confirming his death.

"..."

A lot had changed.

I had rushed here because the fight had been altered from the original book, now taking place in the middle of a forest instead of on a plain.

That meant that the adventurers' guilds wouldn't be notified of the troll's appearance and come help.

However, she managed to defeat the troll single-handedly without the reinforcements from the adventurer's guild.

Was I supposed to be sad that the person who was supposed to kill me had gotten stronger...?

Or happy, that the person who was supposed to save the world countless times had gotten stronger.

It seemed like Kratos, in the original story, had helped and led the troll to fight her, making it so she couldn't defeat it alone.

But, with Kratos focused on me, the protagonist had managed to take the troll down alone.

Glancing in the other direction, I spotted the doctor finally emerge from his hiding spot, thankfully not noticing the protagonist's blessing.

In a shaky voice, the doctor yelled while trembling.

"E-evangel, is it do-"

Pausing mid-sentence, the doctor made eye contact with the protagonist, perhaps confused.

Despite not having smiled once or displayed any emotion during their journey here, Evangel now wore a determined gaze, her eyes sparkling.

Her clothes were covered in stains and some of her own blood, but no exhaustion or pain was visible on her face.

Nodding her head, Evangel simply pointed at the bag of herbs the doctor was holding and asked.

"Are they ruined?"

Instantly, the doctor shook his head.

"Then, let's head back to the guild."

As Evangel and the doctor turned around and began to walk away, I spotted a large dark-green orb resting in her palm.

That wasn't in the original book either.

Sighing, I gripped the black ring in my pocket and quietly followed behind the doctor.

It felt weird looking after the person who was supposed to kill me, but alas, it had to be done.

If she died, then all the disasters that she would prevent in the future would actually happen, causing the entire world and myself to be destroyed.

Again, I was faced with the choice die soon or die later.

And, of course, I chose later.

Moving through the forest, I had to rely on my eyes and not my nose as the scent of the troll was all I could smell.

It smelled the same as a rotting human corpse and completely overwhelmed all the other aromas in the area.

As the three of us and my clones got closer to the town, I silently began pondering as to what to do with the axe in my hand.

I definitely wouldn't be back to make the journey across the plain and back to town in my original state, so if I dropped it, I would be stranded.

Reaching the outskirts of the forest, I split off from Evangel and the doctor, finding a suitable place to hide the axe.

After digging a quick hole in the ground and filling it so there was just enough space for the axe, I dropped the artifact in, feeling my body instantly be drained of all its energy.

Stumbling through the forest like a drunkard, I paused as the last set of trees before the forest end came into view.

Dozens of empty bottles beside the scratched up trees were visible, instantly giving me an idea.

Since the beginning of the forest was safe from beasts, quiet, and secluded, many townspeople came here to drink and party at night

Although it was still day-time, drinking would serve as a valid excuse as to why I had exhaustedly and dirtily clothed come come back from the forest without accepting any quests from the adventurer's guild.

Using the last of my strength, I picked up an empty glass bottle and slowly walked onto the plain, under the sun's rays

As I emerged from the forest, a moving carriage suddenly came to view, so I rapidly waved my hands, attempting to catch its attention.

Thankfully, halting, the carriage paused and the driver's carriage door creaked open, revealing an elderly man with a grey beard.

Dressed in a white collared shirt and a brown vest, the driver glanced through the window behind him before asking.

"Headed to Ezria?"

As I slowly nodded my head, the driver glanced backward once again before saying.

"It seems my customers are particularly nice today and have allowed you a free ride."

At that moment, the main doors of the carriage slided open, revealing two carriages seats that were facing each other

However...before I could say anything, a sweet and soft aroma wafted through the air and slowly entered my nose.
