Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife-Chapter 233: Reluctant to leave her side
Chapter 233: Reluctant to leave her side
Lucian took the cup from the tray Zane held out to him and poured the warm water from the jug for his wife before carefully handing it to her.
"Gently, love," he cautioned when she began to gulp down the water hurriedly to quench her thirst and soothe the dryness in her throat. She held out the cup for more, and he poured it for her. She drank carefully this time, all the while Lucian watched her with a tender expression on his face. She didn’t finish the water and handed him back the cup. He reached out and wiped the side of her lips with his finger and helped her lay back on the pillow before he turned to the king, who was still standing at the side of the door blocking the doctor from entering the chamber.
"You can let him in now to come and check up on her," Lucian said with his usual indifferent voice that held no emotions when he spoke to the king. His soft expression had disappeared like he wasn’t the one being gentle with the woman on the bed just now. He was still angry at the king for many reasons and the king knew it.
Though Talinor had never known how strong Lucian’s kind was, he’d seen a sample of it the day he first came out with the human girl from the dungeon. His rage had knocked many in the palace out of their breath. There was a force about him that would suffocate you to your death when he was angered, and even Talinor, who was the Alpha of the werewolves of Nazia, had been unable to withstand the suffocating air around the prince.
For the past days, the young woman had been unconscious, and the servants of the palace had lived in constant fear of coming across Lucian or being anywhere near this room. There had been no peace because wherever he walked, his presence was always overwhelming. Talinor couldn’t figure out for the life of him what Lucian saw in a fragile human, who he couldn’t even breed an heir with, even if he kept her.
He’d stood at the door since, watching quietly as he saw the two basking in each other’s embrace until the prince ordered for water, and now he spoke to him with a tone of authority to let the doctor in. It was almost like he was the king while Talinor was his servant.
Talinor moved for the doctor to walk in and turned to leave, but before he left the room, he said to Lucian, "When you’re done being a wife magnet to her, we have important things to discuss. We have put things away for too long; it’s time we get on and finish up." Saying this, he looked towards Ave with darkned eyes briefly and left the room without a word to her.
Lucian didn’t bother to follow the king because he wasn’t finished taking care of his wife. Ave, noticing the way the king had looked at her before he left—like she was an unwanted pest in their palace—felt a twinge of worry. Had something happened while she was unconscious? Or was it because she now knew the secret of their land? She remembered the king didn’t like her before, believing that whatever she did was merely an act he would eventually expose. He didn’t trust her. Now that she knew their secrets, he was most likely even less pleased.
Anxiously, she glanced at Lucian, who sat on the edge of the bed with no intention of following the king, and frowned.
"He doesn’t look pleased about something. I don’t think you should keep him waiting. He said you have many things to discuss, perhaps it’s about you taking back the throne," Ave said softly as she looked at him from where she lay. She knew Lucian must have been worried sick about her condition and that she had been unconscious for days now. She wouldn’t want to be the reason he would lose the support he needed from the Nazia. She had many things to talk to him about, most importantly why he hadn’t told her about his curse, but she knew that could wait when he settled things with the people here.
"I will see him later after you are well treated and in a better condition," he assured her gently as he reached out to pat her head. Noticing she was about to urge him to go and meet the king and leave her, something he would never do when she’d just woken up after being unconscious for five days, he turned to the doctor who was standing at the side of the bed and ordered him to do his work of checking on her health, while causing Ave to momentarily forget she was about to urge him away.
"Y-yes, Your Highness," the young doctor said with a slightly trembling voice as he moved to the bedside with his box of equipment and medicine. He couldn’t help but feel intimidated by the prince’s presence after all the rumors he’d heard about how he’d killed doctors that were known to be skilled out of his rage.
The young doctor was just an omega, who had learned about medicine because omegas were known to be weak and almost humanlike. However, they were stronger than humans but not as strong as the normal werewolves. With the prince sitting at the edge of the bed of the human he was supposed to treat and glaring at him to do his work, the doctor could barely pull out what he needed from his box as Lucian’s presence was far stronger than that of their Alpha. Just who was this man? Why did he have such a strong presence about him that would make their kind feel this much intimidated?
Lucian turned to scowl at the trembling doctor who couldn’t seem to find whatever he was searching for in his box. "Hurry and get on with your work. My wife needs to eat and rest," he ordered darkly, but his dark tone made the man let go of the box out of nervousness.
The others in the room could definitely tell he was intimidated by Lucian’s presence. Who wouldn’t be when he was scowling that darkly? The Pendragon siblings had already started to get used to him, all thanks to Ave, and as they watched how the doctor shakily went down on his knees and began to pack his things, they couldn’t help but look towards Ave. She turned to them, and she understood immediately that the man was scared of her husband. Who wouldn’t be with that look he had on his haggard yet handsome face?
Reaching up her hands, she cupped his cheeks and turned his head away from the doctor’s direction to her. When his head turned to her, she watched in wonderment as his expression took a sixty-degree change from his dark scowl to a tender look that made her heart skip a beat and increased its rate.
She had never imagined herself to have a husband someday when she was still in the future, and now that she had one as this handsome man who looked at her, despite the fact that she knew she looked a mess in this condition, like the most beautiful woman on earth, it warmed her heart and made her realize just how much she wanted their relationship to work. But to make a relationship last long, they had to make sure they had no more secrets between them anymore, but before they could talk about that, they would have to be alone, and she’d be in a better condition.
Smiling faintly as he stared down at her where she still held his face in between her palms, he turned and pressed his lips against her right palm. "What’s wrong, my love? Do you need something? Tell me, and I’ll get whatever you want for you," he whispered huskily as he stared at those mesmerizing clear eyes of hers that always reminded him of a clear summer sky with spiky thick lashes casting shadows over her cheeks.
Never in a million years had he thought Ave would accept the fact of him being a cursed human so easily. She had not an ounce of disgust when she looked at him now, and it was almost like nothing had changed. She’d clearly seen him in that form days ago, and though he knew she had come back to him to give her blood because she cared about him, he had thought she would wake up acting differently towards him.
He had expected her to at least get angry and push him away and demand about needing time like most women would have before accepting that the man they married was a disgusting beast who craved blood during red moons, but she had nothing in her eyes but pure affection.
When Selene discovered that he wasn’t fully human and he transformed against his will during full moon nights, she had called him names that ate away his soul and looked at him like he was a disgusting monster. She had stopped considering him human and more animal and increased the dosage of the poison she secretly fed to him to get rid of him quickly. But now it was completely different with his wife. She had no changes in her; in fact, it was almost like she seemed to like him even more with the way she looked at him.
Without giving it much thought, Lucian leaned down and pecked her lips before resting his forehead against hers, gazing into her eyes with a smile playing on his lips.
A blush crept up Ave’s pale cheeks as she realized everyone was watching them in the room, and Lucian was staring at her like he would kiss her again with the look in his eyes. She wasn’t used to being loved and cared for, and most importantly, she felt awkward at the fact that the room was so silent because their audience were staring at them. She wasn’t the type to feel embarrassed or shy easily, but in this moment, she couldn’t help but feel that way as her husband showed affection toward her in front of his siblings.
She had pulled his attention to her to get him to stop scowling at the doctor so he could pack the things he’d dropped, and now that she noticed the doctor was done, she cleared her throat and answered his question.
"Yes, I need something," she said.
"What do you want?" he asked eagerly, and then before she could even answer, he turned to beckon Zane forward to prepare to take the orders to get her whatever she wanted.
Ave couldn’t help but smile as she realized, with how eager he looked to please her, he might attempt to get her the world if she were to ask for it. "I don’t want anything. I mean, what I want is for you to give the doctor the space to do his work. How about you go and meet the king after my check-up with the doctor, and I get to freshen up before you return?" she suggested with an uncertain arched brow. She wasn’t comfortable in her own skin because she could feel what a mess she was, even without looking in the mirror. She would like to take a hot bath. It wasn’t like Lucian’s presence was bothersome; it was just that with him here, the doctor might mess things up, and the Pendragon twins looked eager to come forward as well to greet her.
Furthermore, Lucian must have put aside many things when she was unconscious from the look of things. She didn’t want him to neglect what needed to be done because he was too busy being with her. The king hadn’t looked pleased when he left. The last thing she wanted was for Lucian to never get the support he needed from Nazia and allow Elara to take over everything. Now that she’d chose to stay in the past and live her life with him, she wanted at least for her bloodline to reach the future she grew up in, and for that to happen, Lucian must take the throne from Elara.
Lucian looked reluctant to leave her side, but then, knowing he indeed needed to speak to Talinor about some important things as Caelan’s coronation had happened two days ago, he stepped aside and allowed the doctor to check up on her. He didn’t leave until the doctor was done and turned to inform him that she was fine and would be back to her normal strength after a few days of rest, eating healthy, and taking the medication he’d give her. There was nothing to worry about.
Those words assured him of what he wanted to hear. Before he left, he moved forward, leaned down, and kissed the side of her mouth before whispering, "I’ll be right back. Don’t let them stress you too much. You can send them away if they disturb your rest," he told her, referring to his siblings. The last thing he wanted was for them to not allow her to get some rest.
Ave nodded, and when he still didn’t pull back from her and kept pecking her lips a few more times, she raised her hands and slightly pushed at his chest to urge him away before he’d decide to kiss her lips open-mouthed when she hadn’t freshened up yet. It was part of why she wanted him to go and do something while she cleaned up. It took a few more pushes before he reluctantly straightened up and left the room after warning the twins not to stress her.
