Chapter 255: "Come here." fгeewebnovёl.com

Ave thrashed and moaned in her sleep as she tried to wake herself up from the nightmare that pressed on in her sleep. She reached her hand out, muttering Lucian’s name as she watched him disappear into a thick, cold mist. It was so thick she could barely see anything beyond the haze of it but Lucian’s hand trying to reach her where she lay on the ground, immobilized by some invincible powers.

She couldn’t move any part of her body but her hands, and before their hands could meet, Ave watched and felt as the world swirled around her and the solid ground she lay on gave in beneath her, plunging her into a different world—a world she recognized way too much to mistake it. Her senses were filled with it; she could hear the loud horns of traffic and the distant sounds of music and laughter and cars rushing past. She couldn’t see where she was, but her senses recognized it. The air felt different against her skin; the scent of nature she had become accustomed to was now replaced with the heavy smells of the city.

This felt somewhat too real to be a dream! she thought as she desperately tried to wake up from it. It was no different from losing your eyesight and only having your senses guide you because, in this dream, she couldn’t see but could hear and feel. Why wasn’t she waking up?!

However, before she could panic and begin to wonder how or what on earth she was doing in this modern world, she gasped awake in bed, her heart slamming forcefully against her ribs and her breathing coming in quick, shallow sounds, as though she had just emerged from drowning.

She looked around her and was relieved to see herself in the room she had slept in. It was morning, and the rays of the sun came in from the gaps of the closed windows. It was only when she saw her surroundings that she took her first normal breath and lay back on the bed to get a hold of herself and her heartbeat. If it were her past self who had first found herself in this world, such an experience would have been a dream to her, but now it was one of the most terrifying nightmares to her. She didn’t want anything to do with the future, nor did she want to dream about it and having to see herself getting pulled away from her Lucian like that.

She had been told that as long as her soul didn’t wander too far, she wouldn’t be pulled away by the spell Lyria had used to switch her soul with Selene. To say this damn experience didn’t terrify her would be a big lie. She had never gotten the chance to talk to Lucian about meeting the shadow of his mother that day she woke up from her coma. Many things that happened afterward had caused her to forget to mention it to him.

For a moment, she had felt everything to be real: the invisible force pulling her away from him and the lightheaded feeling of floating through the air before being plunged into a world of loud noises she recognized even without seeing it. A curse had torn them apart for so long, but Lyria had fought it and brought them together, and she prayed and hoped nothing would ever tear them apart again, because she would fight it if it were the last thing she did to find her way back to him if that were to happen—which she knew wouldn’t, now that she had his mark on her neck.

Turning her head, she buried her face into his pillow. His scent still lingered on it, and she inhaled it, taking her strength from it and schooling her heart and feelings under control so she wouldn’t long for him or feel miserable for the lack of his morning kisses and hugs. She didn’t want him to be tense and restless because of her; she wanted him to be able to think with a clear mind, get everything over with quickly, and come back home to her.

She missed him so much she tried to make herself unfeeling for his sake. The thought of him alone made her body ache in places that had nothing to do with him—or perhaps it had. Her breasts ached and tingled because they hadn’t gone through his morning ministrations. He’d always sleep with his hand cupping her breast, and after the day they finally made love, he’d wake her up with his mouth closed around her nipple.

Today felt utterly different from all the other days, which was why every part of her body ached and tingled. She didn’t feel like leaving the bed nor the room. If she could sleep the rest of the days until the day he would return, she would have.

Ave would not have gotten out of bed had the maids not come to prepare her bath and help her dress. She wasn’t surprised when she didn’t see Nadia with them. She wouldn’t have allowed her to even help her prepare this morning with her condition last night had she come. That woman needed more rest than she was allowing herself, and Ave had seen it in her walk last night.

Ave didn’t dwell on the looks the maids were giving her as they helped her bathe and dress. She was used to them being like that by now, and when they finished, she had her breakfast alone as she couldn’t find either of the twins in their rooms when she went to eat with them. It was obvious from the clean bed that neither of them had slept in that bed. She’d seen with her own eyes Celeste sneaking into Rylan’s room, and she didn’t have to ask to know where Isolde was because she had known the girl used to go out to meet Harry, who Ave had heard refused to go back to his village because he wanted to fight beside Lucian’s men after the training he’d gone through with Oliver.

Ave sighed as she continued to eat her food. She was officially alone and lonely. Her husband was away, and her sisters-in-law and her brother didn’t seem to have time for her, which she totally didn’t blame them for. She had not had time for them as well when Lucian was around. She barely even spent a minute or two with them.

Inside the chamber Rylan was given, he stared at the sleeping young woman in his arms with a soft expression that had never been on his face unless he was with Ave. He couldn’t believe how she had managed to convince him into allowing her into his bed last night and even spending the night nestled in his arms like this.

He watched her peacefully sleeping face with her blonde hair spread around his chest and exposed torso as he recalled what happened last night. He had just come out of his bath, wiping his hair when he saw Celeste sitting at the edge of his bed in her silk nightgown, and her shimmering blonde hair pouring down her small shoulders.

She was looking at him shyly with a small smile on her beautiful face. She was sitting stiffly on his bed, but her eyes were bold as they trailed his half-clad body where he had just gotten out of his bath with nothing but a cloth around his waist. He didn’t know why he found satisfaction in the fact that she looked at him with such bold, enticing eyes like she’d never seen anything like that before.

Rylan had been so surprised when he first saw her that he’d let go of the linen he was using to wipe his hair, but the moment he regained his senses, he’d scowled at her and demanded what she was doing in his room at that time of the night.

Celeste had then looked away from his exposed torso to his eyes, meeting his gaze with her cheeks tainted red as she said, "I couldn’t sleep in the room alone..."

"Alone? Where is your twin?" he’d asked strictly as he grabbed a robe and wore it as the girl’s eyes kept swaying to his body.

"She’s not in the room when I came out of my bath. She’s gone to...to see Harry, I think."

Rylan had not been surprised by that because he’d heard whispers around Lucian’s men that Isolde and Harry seemed to be sneaking around a bit too much, and they seemed to believe very soon the two would be wed after the war, as Lucian had promised the young man a position among his men for his talent to make unique tents. But then, he couldn’t believe the other girl would dare spend a night out with the lad without being wed, and here was this one in his room. Who raised this girl?!

Rylan had strictly told her to leave his room and go to Ave since Lucian was not around, but she’d said Ave had company in the room, and they seemed to be discussing and getting along that she did not want to be there to ruin their talks.

He wasn’t going to allow her to spend a night in his room after what she had done the other night! Rylan had thought as he went to pull her by the arm to take her out of his room, but when he reached the door, he stopped short as he found it locked and the key was not on the door lock. He turned to look at Celeste when he heard her giggle and the sound of dangling keys from her direction.

Rylan’s scowl deepened when he saw the key dangling in her fingers as she moved away from him and ran back into the room.

"I knew you’d send me away, so I locked the door and took the keys!" She laughed smugly as she clutched the key in her palm. She had gone down to the library in this palace this morning and got to read some interesting stuff that fascinated her about men and love. She wasn’t a book lover and had never liked reading, but boredom had gotten her there, and she’d happened to find a book that talked about love and men with detailed descriptions of how to make a man head over heels for you.

A short story about two lovers and how the woman had succeeded in making the man she liked love her had been written at the end of the book, and she’d read it and learned a lot from it. It had been embarrassing to read the part where the two made love because the writer had been so detailed about it, she had blushed and felt like a sinner reading it. If her mother were to ever know about what she had read in that book, she’d be married off to any man who would take her before she would bring disgrace to the royal family.

"Come here," Rylan said to her with a commanding voice as she moved to the end of the room with the key in hand. His expression was blank and somewhat aloof as he stood in front of the door beckoning her forward.

Celeste shook her head no, despite the fear that suddenly went through her spine when she saw how aloof and angry he looked as she shook her head. Had she made a big mistake by coming here at night to try out the scene she read in a book with him? Was it time she forfeited her plans and went back to her room?

"Don’t make me come over there, young lady. I am not a patient man; you don’t want to see my other side when irritated," he warned with a dangerously calm voice as he locked eyes with her. Rylan knew after what she had made him feel the night before, his threats were only empty, and he could never harm her regardless of what she would do. He just wanted her out of his space before he’d end up doing something he’d regret.

He had never thought the young girl had such womanly curves like it showed now that she wore a silk nightdress that hugged her body in the right places, and the sight of her in that blue nightdress alone sent his head and brain roaring with dirty thoughts that disgusted him. She was the last woman he wanted, and he wanted her to stay as far away from him as possible. He’d warned her yesterday, and yet she came to him tonight again.

Rylan saw the fear in her eyes as she looked at him in silent contemplation of whether to give the key or not. He hoped for her sake she would give the key because he didn’t know how a small woman like her could rouse such intense feelings in him and make him want to do things to her that the thought of it made him feel like a big bad wolf. Not to mention the feeling of wanting to make her his.

It was stupid and utterly senseless to suddenly feel possessive over a woman he barely knew. Yeah, she used to cling to him at some point when he was Aaron and in the imperial palace, but he’d made sure not to give her the chance to think that he welcomed her or wanted a woman like her. She would blush slightly when he’d look at her among the crowd of guests, but when he scowled, she’d look away.

However, now that he was in his true form and appearance, it seemed she didn’t feel intimidated by him like she did when he was Aaron.
