Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife-Chapter 283: Unbelievable news
Chapter 283: Unbelievable news
The rest of their journey to Pendragon was as tense and fast as it could ever be. The tension around the two was so thick even the two soldiers traveling with them could feel it pressing down on them.
The princess had not ridden with Zane, even though he had offered; she had refused and said she would ride with one of the other men. They hadn’t spoken to each other again, not even when they reached the gates of the imperial palace.
That night, after Zane had left her tent, Thalia had been consumed by mortification and shame. He had looked at her with a look she thought was disgust before he left the tent and never came back to check on her again.
She had lain there waiting and hoping he would come so she could assure him that whatever had happened between them was her choice and she would still do it again if she could turn back time.
She wanted to assure him not to blame himself for it, but the fact that he never saw the need to come and check on her or see how she was doing after he had taken her so roughly, when her body was still new to this, meant he didn’t really care and probably thought she was cheap and disgusting for giving herself away so easily without a fight.
If she had fought him, he would have snapped out of the state he was in when he made love to her, but she hadn’t. She had enjoyed it and moaned out his name to the top heavens.
She had cried herself to sleep that night, hating herself. She had heard him talking to the other soldiers outside her tent, but he had left without checking on her, and when it was morning, after he sent someone to bring her breakfast, they had begun to prepare for their journey and he had not looked at her once or talked to her. And then he dared to ask if she wanted to ride with him on his horse.
Thalia had rejected his offer, and he had nodded his head and told the soldier to take her on his horse. Though she had been the one to reject his offer, she had been disappointed when he didn’t insist she ride with him.
The entire journey, Thalia had had to fight back her tears and mortification as it almost felt like the entire world knew what she had done that night with him. She didn’t regret it, but she hated that she was treated this way for it.
Now, however, as they reached their destination and she saw the familiar grounds of her home, the place she had grown up in, she wanted nothing more than to run to her chamber, lock the door, and bury her head in her pillow and cry. She wouldn’t let him see her cry, and as he came to help her dismount the horse, she slid down herself, ignoring his outstretched hand.
Thalia was walking past him when Zane reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her. She fought back her tears before she turned to glare at him, unsuccessfully as she was too emotional, and her face was everything but fierce. It didn’t scare him away like she wished it would so he would never come anywhere near her again, but it made him release her arm.
"What do you want from me?" she asked softly as he stared at her without uttering a word. She saw the look of guilt and remorse in his eyes, and that almost made her want to cry for some reason.
Zane had no idea where to start as he felt ashamed of himself. He should hate that something like that had happened between them, but for some reason, whenever he closed his eyes, he saw her and felt her beneath him again. He’d never felt half as good when he did that with the courtesan before.
It was different with the princess, but he was ashamed for liking it when she looked and seemed to hate him for it. He dared not tell her how much he would give anything to redo it and treat her gently instead of roughly. He had slept at night on their journey hating himself and wanting to talk to her about it, but he feared what he would hear from her.
Now, however, he couldn’t let her go in there without him at least apologizing, even though his apology wouldn’t change the fact that he’d taken her innocence away from her.
"About that night..." Zane began to speak when suddenly the entrance door of the palace flew open.
"Thalia!" Alden’s excited voice boomed from the entrance as he hurried down the stairs to meet her.
At first, Thalia couldn’t believe what she saw and stood frozen in place. Her brother was alive! She ran into his arms, and he lifted her off her feet and swirled her around while he laughed in happiness and she cried.
At the top windows of the many ones in the palace, Ave watched the siblings’ reunion with a smile on her face, trying to keep her own worries at bay and the things eating at her since this morning when she’d discovered something important about herself.
She tried to keep the thoughts aside and focused on the siblings. She watched as the first prince set his sister down and went to shake and hug Zane in gratitude, but she thought she noticed the look of guilt on Zane’s face as her eyes were sharp to see their faces.
Ave couldn’t dwell on that as her own worries soon came crashing down on her, pressing her down until she could no longer think of anything but how to make things go smoothly after this. For the weeks Zane had gone to get the princess, she and Lucian had spent every moment of the days together, basking in each other’s love and warmth.
These past days were the happiest ones she’d ever had since the day she found herself in this world. Lucian took care of her and made sure she took her medicines on time, and in no time her injuries were healing and fading away.
She’d thought she would be scarred, but from the rate it was fading away, she doubted if it would leave behind a hideous scar. Her face had healed completely, and her skin had been glowing so brightly recently that everyone had noticed her glow. The first day she went down to welcome the rest who had come back from Nazia, they had all commented on how different she looked and how bright she shone.
Ave had thought it must be because of the healing medicine she was taking and everything else Lucian kept gifting her. He had brought her expensive oils she’d heard from the maids were from another kingdom known for making beauty oils and accessories. He hadn’t only gotten her oils but dresses and jewelries to the point she had no place to store them anymore. Every day he always found excuses to give her things, and he would ask for a kiss in return—a kiss that would lead them both to bed.
She had been happy with her life and husband, and when the twins and Lydia commented on her looks when they first came back, she had naturally thought the reason was the oils, accessories, and the change of wardrobe. She had beamed happily, and even Lucian had noticed the change a few days ago and commented on how she had regained her health and body.
He said her waist and hips had become a bit thicker. She had glared at him and, self-conscious, put on a robe to cover herself because she had also noticed the change in her body, but he had assured her that her changes were in a good way.
"I love your body regardless of how it looks, love. I was just saying because I couldn’t help but notice how those hips of yours are distracting me all day. Come here." He took the robe from her body and touched and kissed her all over until she was mindless. However, with the changes in her body also came the weird sickish feelings she had most mornings since the day she was recovering from her injuries.
She had thought the sickness was the side effect of her medicine and had stopped it three days ago, but last night during supper, she had thrown up before she could stop herself at the smell of the chicken dish she used to love so much. Lucian had thought she was poisoned from how much she was coughing and throwing up and had summoned the kitchen staff, even though she told him she was fine.
However, this morning, after Lucian left for the royal meeting he was called for, she had sent Lydia to call the physician as she could no longer take the sickish feelings anymore. She wanted to feel that morning energy she used to have before—not feel heavy and unwilling to leave the bed in the morning.
Because of it, she had not had time to think of all the things she said she wanted to do now that she was free and could move in the palace the way she wanted. Apart from the evening strolls she took with her husband every evening, she had no energy to do anything else. Sometimes he would even end up carrying her back because she felt too lazy to walk back.
But not once had Ave associated her sickness with what the physician had told her with a smile playing on his wrinkled face.
"Congratulations, Your Highness. You are pregnant!" he had said with excitement while Ave looked at him in horror and disbelief.
"His Highness would be thrilled to hear this! I must announce it to him immediately and tell all the royal court members!" The elder man had said as he began to pack his equipment into the box. Ave’s brain had gone on flight mode for a moment, but his words snapped her back, and she hurriedly stopped him.
"Please don’t tell anyone yet!" she had exclaimed, and the man had turned to look at her like she was out of her mind. It was a tradition for the physician to announce such news to the important court members, and this would secure her position as the Empress if they were to hear it.
"I... I would like to tell my husband about it myself, and he can choose whether he wants to tell the court members about it or not. You wouldn’t want to announce it to the rest without knowing if he wanted that, would you?" she had asked, and the man’s eyes had widened as words had spread of how the prince loved his wife and cherished her above anything.
He wouldn’t want to spread the news if the woman didn’t want him to. He quickly nodded and promised to keep his mouth shut until she announced it herself.
Well, too bad, she would never do that. She had no plans of telling even her husband about it anytime soon, not after they had had that conversation that night, and she knew what he thought about her having his child. The Nazia had made him believe it was impossible for her to have his child, and Lucian had been happy about it because he feared losing her to childbirth as Kale had lost Nadia that day.
Her husband’s worst fear was losing her, and he wasn’t willing to take any risks at it, not even the risk of bringing his own child to the world.
He had said he would make her get rid of the child if ever she got pregnant by any chance. He had not taken any precautions to avoid pregnancy because he believed she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant, but now here she was, pregnant with his child and thinking of how she would manage successfully to hide it until the last moment where it would be too late to get rid of.
She had been depressed since this morning about this. She was happy to have his child but depressed that he wouldn’t share in the joy of it because of his fears. Lately, she had noticed he had so much on his mind; he lived in constant fear of Elara taking revenge on them for killing her son and her brother.
Though Ave worried about that part, as she’d lived in a future where there was no Pendragon Empire, she never allowed the fear to cloud her happy days, as she believed the woman had no way to reach them when the others were dead—unless she found another way. But Ave would never allow her to ruin her family.
Lucian, however, seemed to worry about Elara more than he let on, because she could see how he tensed up at the news of how she was impossible to find. He always pretended to be at ease, but she knew him better. She’d also noticed how he worked more than he did when he was a prince. He hadn’t taken the throne yet, but he had begun to work into the nights. Sometimes she would have already fallen asleep by the time he returned.
Perhaps if they could see little of each other and she made sure to fall asleep before his return, she could avoid him seeing any more changes? Ave thought but scoffed. That was impossible. Lucian could not sleep a night without holding her. He would still notice if her belly started to show. He bathed with her most mornings and couldn’t seem to get his hands off her even when they walked side by side. It would be an impossible feat to hide her pregnancy from him.
Though she still had a few more months before she started showing, she must think about ways to hide it before then. His coronation would be in a few days from now, and she would make sure to decide on what to do.
Sighing, Ave realized the people she was watching from the window of the room had gone inside. She stared at the winter land of the palace for a while before she glanced down at her flat belly and slowly raised her hand to press against it. Even though she couldn’t feel the presence of the child yet, she felt utterly and completely attached to it already. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Smiling with determination, she whispered, "Don’t worry, baby, your mother will keep you safe. I will have you even if it will cost me my life..."
If only she had all the Rosa powers without consequence, she would have determinedly faced Lucian and assured him that having his child would not harm her, though she hoped it wouldn’t because she could never afford to birth a child into the world where its father would despise it for costing her life. No matter what happened, she would have to make sure she survived it and held their baby to surprise Lucian.
And firstly, she must study about pregnancy and keep herself healthy. She didn’t want any complications if she would be doing this without her husband’s support or knowledge.
Taking a deep breath, Ave left the window to go and welcome the elder princess and also send lunch to her husband, who had not come out of his study since morning. That man had too much to work on, and she needed to make certain he wouldn’t forget about things like eating and resting between his work.
