Transmigrated Into The True Heiress-Chapter 138: Another Thing Coming
Chapter 138: Another Thing Coming
"What the actual fuck—" Gloria’s voice was cut off as the call ended abruptly. She glared at the screen, muttering curses under her breath. Her first instinct was to call Amalia back and demand an explanation, but her curiosity got the better of her.
Switching off her phone’s "Do Not Disturb" mode, Gloria was immediately bombarded with a flood of messages and missed notifications. The sheer volume made her stomach churn. Among the chaos, one text caught her eye:
"Madam Gloria! The stock prices are plummeting, and the shares—"
Her heart raced. Stock prices? Shares? What was going on? She opened Instagram, where a trending post immediately caught her attention.
"Alan Latham and His Fiancée, Myra Allen, Caught in Scandalous Sex Video!"
Her breath hitched as she clicked on the post. Beneath the attention-grabbing headline, the caption read:
"The leaked video has sent shockwaves through the business world and the elite social circle of the Lathams. In the footage, the focus isn’t just on the act itself but the shocking conversation between Alan Latham and Myra Allen during their intimate encounter."
Gloria’s jaw tightened, as she continued reading.
"Myra Allen, who has recently been revealed as an illegitimate daughter by her stepsister, Ephyra Allen, is heard admitting to her role in her family’s criminal schemes. In the video, Myra is heard wishing that Ephyra had died during the car accident and subsequent attack orchestrated by her mother. She gleefully admits that Ephyra’s survival was nothing short of infuriating. Alan responds by agreeing and laughing, stating that Ephyra was lucky to have survived and adding that Marianna could always ’try again.’ This damning conversation has caused uproar online and further tarnished the Latham and Allen families’ already crumbling reputations."
Gloria’s hand trembled as she scrolled through the comments, each one more brutal than the last:
"So glad Ephyra exposed them. Myra and her mother are monsters."
"Alan is just as bad. Imagine laughing about trying to kill someone!"
"This family is a disaster. No wonder their stock is tanking."
This is disgusting. They deserve to lose everything."
"What kind of monsters talk like this?!"
"Ephyra’s courage in exposing them is inspiring. Justice must be served."
Gloria’s thoughts raced as she tried to make sense of the situation. The engagement, the masquerade, the arrests—it was all spiraling out of control. Her nephew Alan and his fiancée Myra had gone from the family’s golden couple to the center of a devastating scandal.
In the background, the television blared on, a breaking news report flashing across the screen. The anchor’s voice rang out:
"The fallout from the Latham-Allen scandal continues, with new evidence emerging in the form of a leaked video. Public outrage is mounting, and both families are scrambling to contain the damage. Latham Laboratories has suffered a historic drop in stock value, while Myra Allen’s family faces charges ranging from fraud to attempted murder."
Gloria furiously threw her phone on the floor as she screamed, startling the attendant who moved back. Cautiously, she called out, "Ma’am? Is everything alright?"
"Shut up and get the fuck out of here! And call me a maid, now!"
The attendant immediately nodded and hurried out. Soon, a maid came in and bowed.
"Ma’am, the attendant said you called for–"
"Call Eric here for me! Get me my husband, right this fucking minute!"
The maid hurriedly nodded, bowing deeply before scuttling out of the room. A few minutes later, Gloria’s husband, Eric, entered, his tailored suit slightly rumpled and his face drawn with tension.
"Gloria?" he called softly, his tone cautious as he stepped into the spa room.
She whipped around to face him, her eyes blazing with fury. "Eric! Did you see the news? Do you know what’s happening?!"
Eric pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a heavy sigh as he nodded. "Yes, Gloria, I saw it a few moments ago."
Her nostrils flared as she jabbed a finger toward him. "And what about Father? Has that stubborn old man said anything?! What is his plan?!"
Eric moved closer, his voice low and steady in an attempt to calm her. "Adam hasn’t said much yet. He’s keeping his cards close to his chest, as usual. But I’m sure he’s already working on damage control. You know how he operates."
"Damage control?" Gloria sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. "This isn’t just another PR nightmare, Eric! This is a full-blown catastrophe! Stocks are tanking, the media is tearing us apart, and that idiot nephew of mine has single-handedly dragged the Latham name through the mud!"
Eric stiffened, his jaw tightening. "I’m well aware of the situation, Gloria. Yelling at me won’t fix anything."
Her laughter was bitter and sharp. "Fix it? Oh, don’t be ridiculous. The Latham empire is crumbling because of Alan’s stupidity and Leandra’s arrogance! And now Myra Allen has ensured we’re the laughingstock of every business circle in the country. Father’s precious favorites have ruined us all!"
Eric crossed his arms, his gaze steady despite her outburst. "Alan and Leandra might’ve caused this mess, but we need to focus on protecting ourselves. We can’t let their failures drag us down with them."
Gloria took a deep, shaky breath, her hands curling into fists. "Then what do we do, Eric? How do we salvage this? Because if Adam thinks he’s going to let those two off the hook while the rest of us suffer, he’s sorely mistaken."
Eric’s expression darkened. "First, we secure our assets. Talk to the lawyers, the accountants—anyone who can help shield us from the fallout. Second, we need to distance ourselves from Alan and Leandra publicly. If the board starts sniffing around for scapegoats, we can’t afford to look complicit."
Gloria nodded, her rage tempered by cold calculation. "Fine. But I want Adam to hear from me that his little golden children aren’t untouchable anymore."
Eric’s lips curled into a thin smile. "Don’t worry, Gloria. By the time this is over, Father will have no choice but to reconsider the family hierarchy."
Gloria returned his smile, her anger tempered by cold resolve. "Good. Because I won’t let that spoiled little bastard and his scheming fiancée ruin everything we’ve worked for. If Adam Latham thinks he can keep playing favorites, he’s got another thing coming."
