Chapter 82: The system’s gifts.

Sienna raised her eyebrows. "What, you don’t want to?"

The vendor laughed. "Lady Sienna, I can’t pay royalties, I am not that rich. How about a lifetime supply of eternal gratitude, free cookware and pan polish."

Sienna chuckled, walking away. "I will take the gratitude. No holo-boards, no television adverts and no BeastNet ads. If that pan explodes someday, I don’t want people laying blame at my feet." She had never heard of a pan made from meteor iron.

"Deal." The vendor shouted.

Beside her, Geo muttered, "You do know that she will definitely put it on BeastNet, right?"

Sienna nodded. "The people here do as they please."

"Next time, we are not taking your walk by the trading hub." He added.

"Why?" Sienna asked with a grin. "I am enjoying this. Besides, having a reputation as the woman who fought beast men with a pan is better than my old reputation. I think I should start my own pan cookware brand. What do you think?"

Geo put his hands behind his back. "The idea is not bad. Of course, you have to start from a pan, which is what you are known for. Then, you can introduce knives."

She frowned. "Why knives?"

In a voice that screamed business, he replied, "You wield the pan to battle, a blade is another weapon that is right up the alley. After the blade, we bring in forks and spoons. You might need to hit someone with all those things in order to accumulate attention and sales."

She chuckled deviously. "Don’t we have a royal punching bag for that? I will just invite Sting over. People will attach my cookware to royalty and victory in battles."

Geo was surprised to hear how skillfully scheming she was. Maybe she had more in common than the couple let on.

Meanwhile, behind them, the pan vendor was sketching designs for the first interstellar cookware calendar: Sienna and the dragon beast man. She was the hero and he was the villain.

As soon as she returned home, Ali launched herself into her arms. "Mama, where did you go without me?"

Sienna replied with a tired but motherly smile, "On a walk to lose some pounds." She lifted the girl into the air, "But it seems, like I have gained them all back in the form of a little fox baby that is getting chubbier everyday."

Ali giggled adorably.

"What have you been up to this morning? Other than sniffing the kitchen for food?" She asked her daughter.

Ali twisted her lips, "mmm, I ate a small cake," she measured a gap between her hands that was definitely not small. "It was lemon, grandma Byra made it. She added lots of honey, and bananas.." then, widening her eyes, she whispered, "the yellow ones!"

Sienna laughed. Other than her, and some monkey beast men, apparently, not many people ate bananas in this world. Even Ali was not a fan of the taste. "Was it good?"

Ali nodded. "I kept some for you and papa."

Mrs. Miller walked over with a snort. "It was your mama’s diet cake and you claimed it. How can you keep some for her when it was hers?" She pinched the little one’s nose. "Greedy little thing."

Ali pouted. "Mama, grandma Miller bullied me." She complained.

Sienna rolled her eyes. "Come on, my little baby with a big appetite. Wait for mama to have breakfast and then we can go an start planting strawberries."

When she sat at the table to eat, she was alone. Her daughter ran off to play with the grandmother that she claimed had just bullied her. As Sienna indulged in overnight oats with bananas, nuts and honey, she remembered something important: the system had rewarded her for completed the last mission and she never checked.

She waved her hand and a box fell on the table. Inside was a neatly arranged collection of gifts--clearly made to please playful pets.

Sienna brought them out, one by one, The first was a squeaky star shaped toy which glowed faintly in the dark. "I know who will be claiming this." Ali would grab a hold of it as soon as she saw it.

But, it could be used to tempt Elias into fetching so she decided to hide it for the time being.

Next came the puzzle cube that dispensed treats when solved. Sienna laughed, picturing her three foxes glaring at it like was a rival strategist. Ali would work hard because she was foodie. Eli would play with it to prove he could win at the game. Elias would poke around out of curiosity. The last was a kite. She would unfold it from outside and see what it truly was.

The next compartment was larger and it had snacks. Nutrient bars, dried fruits strips and packets of jerky. She sampled a dried fruit strip and nodded approvingly. "Healthy and not boring."

At the bottom of the box lay packets of seeds, brightly colored. Now that part was unexpected. The system didn’t just cater to the pets, it seemed to cater to her needs as well. Each seed packet came with a manual. There were sprouting beans that promised rapid growth, leafy red cabbages that were resistant to pets and strawberries, as if the system knew she planned to plant them.

Sienna smiled, "These fast growing ones will probably be better than the seeds I bought from the market." She polished off breakfast, changed into an old dress and rushed to the backyard, which workers had prepared for planting.

Then, she cordoned off a section where she would be planting the system seeds. Sienna knelt in the garden, her hands carefully pressing the special seeds into the soil. Beside her, Ali bounced with mischief, digging dirt with her hands and pouring it to the side.

Eli looked on with disapproval, like a tiny lord watching over his servants who were not doing a very good job.

Clumps of soil fell into Sienna’s hair and she sighed. "Ali, sweetheart, we are not playing that game." She brushed soil from her hair.

Meanwhile, across the yard, workers lined up under grandpa Corven’s watchful eye, planting rows of ordinary seeds with military precision. Grandpa Corven barked instructions like a commander, ensuring every furrow was straight.

Eli nodded at his great grandfather with approval. When he looked at what his mother and sister were doing, he smiled wryly. These two females needed to be barked at by grandpa Corven as well.

Ali’s crooked rows stood out like laughter among discipline.

But three hours later, the work was done, crooked and straight. And Sienna had an unfriendly royal visitor on her doorstep who had come looking to tangle for a second round.

That devious chuckle Geo had heard in the trading hub returned, and this time, it was even more devious. Even Eli was scared.
