Transmigrated to Game World with SSS Wife-Chapter 53: Dragonwalker
"Heritage? What does that mean?" Nick asked, looking over to Juliana who had a similar perplexed expression. The more he learned about Ugyr, the less he seemed to understand.
Granted, he only knew her for a few days, but still. He doubted some summoned elves could've really called someone like her.
Like everything else in that 'dungeon', she was weird.
Ugyr walked slowly across the room in a way that almost looked like a slithering snake. She remained silent as she walked toward them, taking time to appreciate the grandeur of the house.
Her travel ended at the head of the round table they were sitting at. She traced her hand across the top of a chair before pulling it out. Its legs struck against the floor, creating a loud and harsh screech. This screech was silenced by her stifling chuckle.
Taking care to lift her tail as she sat down, Ugyr sent Nick a glance filled with desire as she said, "Right. What do I mean by heritage?"
She shrugged before lifting the tea pitcher by just her forefinger, relishing in the flimsy balance. When she poured the tea into her own cup, not a single drop spilled on the table or anywhere else. There never was any threat of the pitcher being dropped, as Ugyr was far too dexterous.
"Well, it's simple really. You are a Dragonwalker as well as a Progenitor. Think of it like this. When a new Progenitor comes into existence, they are given a selection of races to choose. Orc, Elf, Human. Bleh races. Boring races."
'A new Progenitor? What's that–like a new player? A new King of the Cosmos?' Ugyr had no intentions of answering Nick's internal questions, as she found too much joy in the current topic.
"Every once in a while, a special Progenitor comes along. These ones are able to choose the walker race. However, that doesn't necessarily mean the category they fall into is all that special. For example, a Humanwalker would be far less powerful than a Trashwalker."
'Do we really need to drag the human race through the mud every second? Ever since I've come into the game it feels like my race gets the short end of the stick. That's bullshet!'
A soft purr danced along Ugyr's vocal cords as her tail perked. She finally reached the best part of her explanation!
"Basically, my king, not only are you a Walker, the race most commonly aligned with omnipotence, but from within that selection you are one of the best of the best. Basically, in a group of 10 Progenitors, all 10 of you would be able to destroy reality itself should you choose. However, only you would be able to kill the other 9."
She sent her tail under the table and used it to stroke Nick's right leg as she purred, "After you grow, anyway."
So the SSS-Rank thing was more of a potential deal than anything else. However, there was one thing that stuck with him throughout the entire explanation: a question he couldn't shake.
"What are Progenitors? Or who?"
Ugyr stared at Nick for a few seconds.
Within that timeframe, it was like all life left her eyes.
He felt as though he was staring into the void.
"You came from the Forgotten Quadrant?"
Ugyr's voice returned just as instantaneously as the light in her eyes. The change was so fast that if the experience wasn't so vivid and shocking, Nick could've easily believed he had imagined the whole thing.
But looking into empty eyes was the worst feeling.
The complete lack of life...
Nick shivered and then looked at Juliana, wondering how she reacted to that moment.
Nothing.
She didn't show any signs of even noticing Ugyr's glitch. No wide eyes, no heavy breathing, no erratic scanning of the room.
Instead, all her body did was simply nod and say, "Yeah, I think so. That's what they said, anyway."
It was like Nick was the only person in the room who remembered the previous discussion. Both Juliana and Ugyr had already moved on to discussing the Forgotten Quadrant.
Tea boiled as she sipped it, smacking her lips as she set it down. A sly look crossed her eyes as she looked at Juliana and Nick.
"You must not have been too far into it then. If you were, the experience would've been beyond unforgettable. Because, Y'know, burning skin, poisonous air, continental-sized monsters, etcetera. Not recommended for the weak."
Continental-sized monsters?!
What kind of hellhole did the tutorial spawn him into?
Actually...
"Uh, what keeps those monsters from attacking us and everyone else in the city," Nick asked, his voice low from shock.
Ugyr stirred her tea with a claw as she watched the boil bubbles, pondering the question.
"Well, wise men created theories. They don't want to, there's some kind of seal keeping them out, blah blah blah. Wise men have daughters to tuck in at night. They have to lie and create safety."
She stopped her finger, and just moments later the rest of the tea had evaporated instantaneously. With a single motion, she slid the cup to the side and then licked her finger.
"Truthfully, if they wanted to, I believe those monsters could pulverize a city like this overnight. I've never seen anything suggesting a seal, and I come from the Forgotten Quadrant as well. The things I've seen... if anyone truly believes that some stupid raider or hunter or whatever stands a chance, they're stupid as hell."
Rude.
Though he saw the strong belief in every word she said.

Once again, the only path forward for Nick was to gain more power and strength. What point would there even be in living on if some huge monster he had no chance of defeating decided it wanted some exercise?
At any second, the Forgotten Quadrant could claim more land.
Its secrets could rampage through the city as if it were just a pebble.
Nobody would be left to mourn the deceased.
Nick, Juliana, Amelia, Ugyr–they'd all be forgotten.
