Transmigration: From Farmer To Empress-Chapter 2060 - 2068: Sisters Reunited (Part 3)
Chong Wu said, "The matter of my marriage is for my parents to decide. My eldest sister-in-law can voice her opinion, but it is not up to her to agree or disagree. You are overthinking this."
In fact, Dong Wan’er knew that Yuwen Yanran couldn’t decide on Mu Chongwu’s marriage. However, she feared that Yuwen Yanran might make things difficult for her behind her back, so she decided to be proactive, speaking ill of her, so that Chong Wu would harbor a sense of resistance towards Yanran. Consequently, even if Yanran said anything unfavorable about her in the future, it would have no effect on Chong Wu.
After making some reassurances, Dong Wan’er finally agreed to go with Chong Wu to Mu Mansion to meet his parents, though she still bore an anxious and cautious demeanor.
After what happened yesterday, Chong Wu already considered her as one of his own. Seeing her like this, he couldn’t help but feel a bit of pity and said, "Wan’er, don’t worry. My parents are reasonable people; they will certainly like you. Even if they don’t, I will never let anyone make things difficult or bully you."
Dong Wan’er’s goal was achieved, and she knew the man’s heart was captured. She couldn’t help but feel elated, but her face showed a gentle and reserved expression. She shyly smiled and said, "With you here, I can rest assured."
At that moment, she dressed and tidied herself, got in the carriage with Chong Wu, and headed towards Mu Mansion.
At present, Mu Mansion was no longer the residence of a fifth-rank official that Mu Zhongqing inhabited when he first started his career. Three years ago, when he became the Prince’s mentor, Nangong Yi specially allocated them a luxury estate situated among the buildings where princes and princesses resided, adjacent to the Palace. It was enormous, with halls and pavilions, striking and grand, and the garden was lush with trees and rocks, no less impressive than the neighboring royal and princess residences.
Following Chong Wu, Dong Wan’er entered through the main door, which was adorned with three flower-dropping gates. On either side were cloistered verandas, and in the middle was a main corridor where stood a large purple sandalwood-framed marble screen. Turning past the screen, they strolled among flowers and willows, touched stones by springs, passed the ivy rack, entered the Fragrant Wood Pavilion, crossed the Peony Pavilion, and walked through the Peony Nursery, where hundreds of green bamboo stalks provided shelter and shade. The path below was paved with stones, and at the end of the path was the main hall where Mu Mansion received guests. The red railings and white stones gave it a refined elegance.
Inside the reception hall, sat a dignified and comely middle-aged woman, around forty years old, at the highest seat. She wore a lake blue Shu brocade beizi, embroidered with entwined peonies and edged with crescent shapes, and an ocher horse face skirt below. Her head was adorned with a forehead band embroidered with chrysanthemums and inlaid with sapphires. She wore no jewelry, except for a pair of exquisite white jade bracelets on her wrist. Evidently, this woman was none other than Madam Mu.
Lady Du sat upright in her chair, with four young and beautiful maids standing behind her like geese wings, each dressed in the same attire. There were also two smartly dressed maids present, everyone holding their breath and focusing, not daring to misstep in etiquette.
To Lady Du’s left sat a young noblewoman dressed in a red cloud satin beizi embroidered with gold and flowers, and a jade-studded flower-scattered cloud mist skirt. Her hair was adorned with a magnificent eight-treasure pearl bun, pinned with a Five-Phoenix-Facing-Sun Pearl Hairpin. A crimson golden coiled dragon tassel circlet adorned her neck. She was resplendently luxurious, like an immortal concubine. This was indeed Dong Wan’er’s long-unseen younger half-sister, Dong Lian’er, also known as Yuwen Yanran! 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Upon seeing each other, Yanran was instantly shocked. Dong Wan’er had mentally prepared herself. Though a heavy jealousy arose in her heart at the sight of Yanran, her preparation allowed that jealousy to quickly vanish. Her face maintained its gentle and respectful demeanor as she carefully followed Chong Wu forward and kneeled before Lady Du.
"Dong Wan’er humbly pays respects to Madam Mu."
Seeing her complete rituals with humility and obedience, Lady Du politely said, "Rise and speak. Come, meet your eldest sister-in-law; she got married last year and is now newly pregnant."
