Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 124: Our Bargaining Chip
"Are you sure this is a good idea, A-Yan?"
Lan Meishan asked as he watched Ningyan who was currently in his masked beastman form, climbing the high fence surrounding the most abandoned corner of the clan manor.
Ningyan’s white tail swished excitedly from side to side as he struggled to pull himself up.
"I don’t think I’ve had a single good idea in my entire life," he said with a heavy breath, finally managing to sit on top of the fence. "But I’m very sure about this one."
He looked down at Lan Meishan.
Meishan was staring up at him with an adorably worried expression behind his glasses.
He had been looking at him like that all day.
Ningyan sighed inwardly. He had woken up that morning in Meishan’s arms, free from the pain in his chest.
For a moment, he had almost decided to forget everything and simply distract his husband by finishing what they had started the night before.
Their wedding night had already been interrupted by: Yan Wuhen, the strange demonic energy and the sudden pain in his chest.
He pursed his lips at the thought. He just wanted to run away into the mountains with Lan Meishan and live quietly away from innocent beasts.
So, instead of killing Madam Qin and drawing even more attention to himself, thus attracting even more bounty hunters or worse like Lan Yunlai, he had chosen the peaceful approach.
A simple deal.
He was a married man now. The raw anger he’d felt that night in the water city’s lower district had settled.
And he still needed to figure out what exactly was wrong with him.
The chest pains. The strange dreams about the crystal.
He hadn’t had another dream since the one on the ship, but that didn’t comfort him at all.
Especially not after the pain he had suffered the night before.
"I don’t like this," Meishan said suddenly. "I should come with you."
Ningyan sighed. "The assassins using those demonic tools already exposed that Madam Qin is working with your father."
Meishan nodded slowly. "I know."
He looked troubled. "Many beasts have begun practicing both demonic cultivation and beast cultivation at the same time."
His expression darkened a bit. "The corruption is killing many of them... but some are actually succeeding."
He looked up at Ningyan again. "And regardless of that, I still need to protect you."
His voice softened. "I know you’re afraid that the other me might appear... but I’m still capable of protecting you."
Ningyan pressed his lips together. "I just want to propose—"
"Hey!" A voice suddenly echoed from the compound.
Ningyan froze.
He quickly grabbed the top of the fence, his legs dangling as he flattened himself against it.
Lan Meishan immediately stepped closer, positioning himself beneath Ningyan in case he fell.
Ningyan’s wolf ears twitched.
Two servants were hurrying toward each other nearby, both looking tense.
"Have you seen Su Nianci?" the first servant asked anxiously. "I went to her chamber, but she’s not there."
"What?" the second servant replied in alarm. "Where would she go on her name day? There are so many guests waiting to see her!"
The first servant looked panicked. "Madam Qin is going to have my head!"
Su Nianci’s name day?
Ningyan’s eyes widened. He suddenly lost his grip on the fence.
But Lan Meishan immediately caught him in a perfect bridal carry.
Ningyan blinked. Then he burst out laughing.
Wrapping his arms around Meishan’s neck, he kicked his feet playfully.
"Oh, my sweet husband," he teased.
Then he leaned forward and kissed Meishan on the cheek.
Meishan’s entire face turned bright red.
"It seems today is Su Nianci’s name day," Ningyan said softly, his breath brushing against Meishan’s neck.
Then he dramatically threw his head back, staring up at the bright blue sky.
Madam Qin Linhua had four children.
Su Mingze. Su Hengyue. Su Qiyuan. And Su Nianci.
Su Mingze was about a year older than Ningyan.
Su Hengyue and Su Qiyuan were the same age as Ningyan, though both had been born earlier in the year.
Su Nianci, meanwhile, was about a year younger than all of them.
There really wasn’t much difference between them.
Still...
It was Su Hengyue and Su Qiyuan who had broken Ningyan’s beast core in the original plot.
Strangely enough, those two brothers had barely been mentioned in the novel until the moment when Su Ningyan wiped out the entire Phoenix Clan.
Even then, the story had always focused more on Su Mingze.
Realizing this made Ningyan uneasy.
It felt like he was slowly sinking deeper into the original plot.
Except now the story had been completely scrambled. Nothing was unfolding the way it had in the book.
Su Nianci...
"I..." Meishan suddenly cleared his throat, blinking rapidly. "I can sense Yan Wuhen."
Ningyan’s eyes widened. "What?"
"My brother as well," Lan Meishan added.
He carefully placed Ningyan back on his feet.
Ningyan stood there, trying to process the information.
Lan Shiyu’s presence made sense.
But Wuhen?
Was that why he was here? To attend Su Nianci’s name day?
What the hell was going on?
"On second thought," Ningyan suddenly said.
He turned toward Meishan and grabbed his face with both hands, squishing his cheeks together. "I need you."
Lan Meishan blinked slowly but nodded.
Ningyan took a deep breath. "I need you to act as a distraction."
He spoke quickly now. "Wuhen will definitely notice you, and he’ll immediately assume I’m nearby. So while you keep them busy..."
Ningyan’s eyes gleamed mischievously. "I’ll find Su Nianci and abduct her."
Meishan blinked in surprise. But after a moment, he nodded again.
Ningyan grinned, clearly pleased with his plan. "She’s Madam Qin’s only daughter and her youngest child."
He shrugged. "She loves that girl more than anything."
Then his expression turned cold. "But Su Nianci is just as awful as her mother, so I don’t feel bad about it. She’s our bargaining chip."
He clapped his hands together once. "So let’s do this smoothly, okay? And don’t let Lan Shiyu provoke you."
Meishan pressed his lips together. "I’m glad you chose this path."
Ningyan smiled. "It might not work."
"That’s true," Meishan said calmly. "But it’s admirable that you chose not to spill blood... even though you were ready to."
Ningyan chuckled. "Oh, I’ll spill blood if she refuses, dear husband."
His grin turned mischievous. "Think of this negotiation as a chance for Madam Qin Linhua. I don’t care if I have to wipe out the entire clan if she refuses to have the bounty dissolved."
Lan Meishan blinked at him in surprise.
Ningyan released his face and turned away.
Then he stretched his arms lazily.
"So..." He glanced over his shoulder. "Shall we begin, dear husband?"
