Chapter 133: Ready To Destroy Everything

When Su Ningyan woke the next morning, the first thing he noticed was the absence of warmth.

The bed was empty.

Just hours ago, he had been wrapped securely in Lan Meishan’s arms, held close, steady, safe.

Now, nothing.

Ningyan exhaled slowly, pushing himself upright as the weight of last night settled heavily in his chest.

"Ugh..." He rubbed at his eyes, then his forehead, before drawing his knees up and hugging them loosely. "This is going so badly."

Now that he knew what was inside him... he didn’t know what to do.

How was he supposed to explain that the crystal had already fused with his beast soul?

Would Rong Yue still try to rip it out of him? Would that kill him?

...and how, of all things, had something Lan Yunlai wanted so desperately ended up inside him?

Ningyan let out a quiet breath and rested his chin against his knee.

His gaze drifted downward, then stilled.

The winged markings around his ankles.

Frowning slightly, he lifted the hem of his robe. And froze.

"...What?"

The color had changed.

What had once been a soft red now burned a deep, ominous purple.

"Oh no..." His fingers trembled slightly as he traced the markings.

That wasn’t good.

If anything, it confirmed the crystal had indeed fused with his soul.

At this rate, the male leads might kill him first.

"A-Yan?" Meishan’s voice came soft and low behind him.

Ningyan startled, his head snapping up as his heart lurched.

Meishan stood there, holding a set of neatly folded robes in his arms. His dark hair fell loose over his shoulders, glasses resting lightly against his nose, lips slightly parted as his gaze settled on Ningyan.

"Did something happen?" He stepped forward without hesitation, setting the clothes aside before cupping Ningyan’s face gently, his touch careful, searching.

Ningyan blinked at him. Then, before he could stop himself, "I thought you left me."

The words slipped out quietly. Unfiltered.

Meishan stilled. Genuine surprise flickered across his face as his thumb brushed lightly against Ningyan’s cheek. "Why would I do that?"

Ningyan pressed his lips together, his gaze dropping to avoid those eyes. "...You should be angry with me."

Meishan didn’t respond immediately. He simply looked at him.

At the way Ningyan sat there small, drawn in on himself. His hair a complete mess, strands sticking out like an abandoned nest. The faint way he bit his lower lip, as if caught between speaking and retreating.

Meishan’s expression softened.

"I’m not," he said quietly. "I don’t think I should be."

His hand moved to Ningyan’s hair, fingers sliding gently through the tangled strands, carefully working through the knots without pulling.

The touch was slow. Patient. Unhurried.

Ningyan’s eyes lifted again, violet and bright, still filled with guilt... but also something else. Something searching.

"But..." he started, then shook his head, as if dismissing his own thoughts.

"The crystal..." His voice dropped slightly. "How do we get it out?"

A pause. "What if we can’t?"

Those questions only deepened Lan Meishan’s concern.

He had been turning those same questions over in his mind ever since Rong Yue confirmed what he had long suspected but refused to believe.

How had the crystal entered Ningyan’s body in the first place?

"We’ll find a solution," Meishan said quietly. "But for now... let me take care of you."

His gaze softened, steady and unwavering.

"I won’t let Rong Yue, or anyone else hurt you."

That made Su Ningyan smile faintly. "...Okay."

Later, after bathing and changing, Ningyan stepped out dressed in light white robes, soft and flowing, lined subtly with deep violet beneath. His hair was tied into a loose ponytail, a few strands falling over his forehead, framing his face.

When they entered the breakfast chamber, only Rong Yue was there.

He sat casually, golden hair unbound, robes loose, one leg crossed over the other. His tiger tail swayed lazily behind him.

But his eyes locked instantly onto Ningyan.

The servants around them faded into irrelevance.

"Pleasant morning," Rong Yue greeted.

Meishan inclined his head slightly.

Ningyan didn’t bother. He walked straight to the table, grabbed a piece of sauced meat, and popped it into his mouth.

"There’s nothing pleasant about this morning," he said flatly. "Except my husband."

Rong Yue’s lips twitched.

"I suppose I’ll need time to adjust," he replied, glancing toward Meishan. "This development is... unexpected."

"More unexpected than the fact that there’s an ancient crystal inside me?" Ningyan shot back as he settled down with Meishan. "How did you even find me?"

"I have my ways." Rong Yue took a slow sip of wine, unbothered. "It wasn’t difficult to connect the pieces. Not once the pattern became clear."

The way he looked at Ningyan made something in Ningyan’s chest tighten.

This wasn’t the same Rong Yue from the academy. That version hadn’t looked at him like prey.

"My father wants the crystal to stabilize his cultivation," Meishan said calmly, cutting into his food with measured precision. "To amplify it. To ascend."

He paused. "It has been sought for centuries. It was once in the possession of Jun Yongri... then passed to his son, Jun Haoxuan as one of the dragon clan’s most powerful artifacts."

Rong Yue nodded faintly. "I’m aware."

Ningyan frowned, eyes narrowing slightly. "Then why do you want it?"

Rong Yue raised a brow. "Why do you think?"

"I’m not in the mood for guessing," Ningyan replied dryly.

A soft chuckle escaped Rong Yue.

Instead of answering, he leaned forward slightly. "Why didn’t you kill Madam Qin Linhua?"

Ningyan stilled. "What does that have to do with—"

"They tortured you," Rong Yue cut in smoothly. "Since childhood. Sent assassins after you. Destroyed your beast core. Ruined whatever peace you had left."

His gaze sharpened.

"And your rage..." he added softly, almost thoughtfully. "I felt it. Like a living thing. You went there ready to destroy everything."

His eyes locked onto Ningyan’s. "And yet, you didn’t kill them."

Silence stretched.

"Why not, Su Ningyan?"
