Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 66: It Wasn’t An Easy Life
Ningyan wished he could say he had expected Han Yunyi to be related to him but he hadn’t.
The resemblance was there, yes. The white hair, the strange sense of familiarity. But many beasts had white hair. He hadn’t wanted to assume something so significant based on that alone.
They sat around a small table inside the chamber. Yunyi poured tea for Shenzhen first, then for Ningyan, and finally for herself. As she did, a soft smile lingered on her lips. A small smile that made Ningyan’s chest warm in a way he didn’t quite understand yet.
"Thank you," he said quietly.
He lifted the cup, took a small sip, and stared into the tea. Across from him, Shenzhen took a sip as well then nearly dropped her cup.
"So," she blurted, staring between them, "he’s your sister’s son, Yunyi-jie? Your nephew?"
"Yes," Yunyi replied calmly. "He has her eyes. And once he said his father was Su Zhaoyan..." Her voice faltered. "Ruyin..."
Her expression creased, as though an old wound had been pressed.
"She loved that fool," Yunyi said softly. "And she died because of that love." Her gaze shifted to Ningyan. "She left you alone."
Yunyi raised her hand, hesitating just short of touching him.
Then she withdrew it, smiling gently as she settled back into her seat.
"I am happy we finally met."
Ningyan swallowed. "Jun Haoxuan didn’t tell you about me?"
Yunyi shook her head. "No. Not really."
"Were you in the manor on the night of the festival?" Ningyan asked carefully. "You should have sensed me."
"I wasn’t here that night," Yunyi replied.
Ningyan exhaled slowly.
He needed to relax but caution was etched deep into him. Trust had never come easily, and he feared betrayal. He needed to keep distance, no matter how warm someone felt.
"I don’t think big brother knows he’s your nephew," Shenzhen chimed in. "He would have said something if he did."
"That, I don’t know," Yunyi said with a faint smile. Then she turned to Shenzhen. "Weren’t you heading to Wind City to see Shanyuan?"
"Later," Shenzhen replied quickly. "We have a visitor."
She was clearly eager, too eager, to hear what Ningyan wanted to discuss. Ningyan shifted slightly, discomfort evident.
Shenzhen noticed. But her smile widened.
Yunyi sighed softly and placed a gentle hand on Shenzhen’s shoulder.
"Why don’t you have the servants prepare your favorite treats?" she suggested. "I’m sure Ningyan would like to try them."
Shenzhen frowned, her delicate features tightening as she looked at Ningyan.
"You could just say you don’t want me here," she huffed. "Hmph!"
She rose to her feet and stomped out of the chamber, leaving the air behind thick with quiet.
Yunyi smiled gently and looked at Ningyan, who returned it with a shy, uncertain glance.
"Ignore Shenzhen," she said softly. "He’s spoiled but he’s kind, and he means well."
"He?" Ningyan blinked, wondering if he had heard correctly.
Yunyi chuckled. "Yes. Shenzhen is a male dragon beast. He simply happens to look and dress like a woman."
Ningyan blinked rapidly. "Oh. Wow. He really looks like—" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"I’m sorry." Yunyi suddenly bowed her head deeply.
Ningyan’s eyes widened in alarm. He waved his hands frantically. "No.. no, there’s nothing to apologize for!"
She lifted her head slowly. Her eyes were wet now, shining with unshed tears.
"I came for you," Yunyi said quietly. "After Ruyin’s death. I tried to take you away but they chased me off. I couldn’t protect you." Her voice trembled. "And now we meet like this."
She studied his face, as if committing it to memory.
"You grew well," she whispered. "You have all of Ruyin’s features. Her presence. I’m certain you carry her fire, too."
Ningyan smiled faintly. "It wasn’t an easy life."
He paused, then straightened slightly. "But... that’s why I need your help."
Yunyi looked at him attentively.
"My cultivation," Ningyan continued. "I need to expand it. Strengthen it. My beast core was broken for a long time, and I only recently repaired it. I haven’t had the chance to properly hone my strength."
Yunyi froze. "Your core was damaged?" she asked sharply.
Ningyan forced a smile. "Yes."
She stared at him as though seeing him clearly for the first time.
"And you repaired it?" Her voice dropped to a whisper. "That has never been done. Not once."
"I suppose I broke a record," Ningyan said lightly, though his eyes were serious. "But my life is dangerous. I want to do everything I can to grow stronger."
He hesitated, then added quietly, "There are so few of us left. I want to change that. I want to unite us."
Yunyi’s expression softened, though hesitation lingered in her gaze.
"Ningyan..." She reached out slowly, carefully, and took his hands in hers.
He didn’t pull away.
"You’re right," she said. "There are not many of us left. And uniting our kind will not be easy." A faint smile touched her lips. "But you have a way of drawing attention. You’re already making history."
She squeezed his hands gently. "The first known beast to repair his own core."
Ningyan blinked. "That’s... a big thing."
Yunyi laughed softly. "Very."
He let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. "That’s a relief."
Yunyi’s smile deepened.
"I will teach you everything I can," she said. "And I will give you everything I have."
Ningyan smiled. "Thank you. It really means a lot."
And it truly did.
Warmth spread through his chest, relief washing over his senses. Just hours ago, Mingze had told him he was alone in this world. Now... Now he had found family.
His eyes burned with the threat of tears, but he simply smiled through it and sniffed lightly.
He didn’t rush Yunyi.
Instead, he told her about his life. From his childhood, to his cultivation struggles, to how he had ended up entangled with Yan Wuhen through the spirit mate chain. Yunyi was visibly shocked, but in turn, she revealed something that left him stunned.
She was married. Not just married but married to Jun Haoxuan’s late sister.
Jun Shengyi. The sibling who had died from illness.
Ningyan stared at her. "You’re married into the Jun family... then why did Wuhen tell me there was a rumour that you were a slave?"
Yunyi laughed softly, shaking her head. "Shengyi was quiet. And so was our marriage." Her smile was faint. "And you know how our kind is treated. Anyone who saw me beside a Jun family member assumed I was there against my will."
Ningyan scoffed, then sighed. "I’m really sorry for your loss. I heard Jun Haoxuan killed the healer who failed to save her."
Yunyi’s smile tightened. "Yes. The Abyss Serpent Clan and the Azure Dragon Clan are at war now." She exhaled slowly. "As if we didn’t already have enough wars within dragons, with their own internal conflicts."
Ningyan nodded. "Yes... but the illness—"
Yunyi stiffened instantly. "I’d rather not—"
"Oh.. oh." Ningyan waved his hands quickly. "I’m sorry. That was insensitive."
Yunyi looked at him for a moment, then softened.
"You know," she said quietly, "I was only ten years old when Ruyin was pregnant with you. Shengyi and I had been married for barely a year."
Her gaze drifted, unfocused.
"She died so young. She was only two months older than Haoxuan. They bickered constantly." A sad smile tugged at her lips. "She was strong. Beautiful. I never imagined I would lose her like that."
Ningyan didn’t speak. He simply stood, moved closer, and gently pulled her into an embrace.
Yunyi accepted it immediately.
