Chapter 152: All Are Mortal Until Innate

More than a month had passed since their last meeting. Seeing Lilith again, she was as spirited and graceful as ever, light and elegant in her movements.

"I didn’t expect that you’ve already become the person in charge of an entire city. Ranked seventy-fifth on the Human Ranking, and among the tens of thousands of outer disciples in the sect, you’ve become the fourth. The Four Fiends of the Heavenly Demon Clan... perhaps now we should call them the Five Fiends."

Lilith carried a sword, clad in black with a blue headscarf. Her fair, delicate face still bore sweet dimples when she smiled, giving her the appearance of the girl next door. However, she now carried a more mature and capable air.

The Four Fiends of the Heavenly Demon Clan originally referred to the top four among the sect’s outer disciples, all of whom were prominent figures on the Human Ranking and renowned in the Magus world. They were dubbed the Four Fiends of the Heavenly Demon Clan by those in Magus World.

Aizen, sitting in the pavilion, chuckled, "Four Fiends, Five Fiends—it’s all just talk from others... In the end, we’re still pitiful beings stuck at the step of transcending the mundane. Without breaking through to the innate realm, it’s all just an illusion."

Lilith’s bright eyes lit up as she gazed intently at Aizen. "It seems you’ve already touched upon that step and are exploring how to cross it. Are you confident?"

"The world is ever-changing; how could I say for sure... But I’ve already reached a bottleneck. To take the final step, staying here and cultivating in seclusion will be of no use.

Your arrival is timely. I will stay in the city for another half month to support you in taking your position. I’ll also notify Elder Mustang. Once everything is stable, I’ll leave."

Aizen’s words were calm, but to Vincent, who overheard, they were utterly astonishing.

Although he had mentally prepared for this, he was still caught off guard and felt a tinge of unwillingness. However, in Aizen’s presence, he dared not act out.

"After I leave, you two must fully support Lilith. If you act with insubordination..."

Aizen trailed off with a shake of his head, but the implications in his words sent a chill down Vincent’s heart.Christopher, on the other hand, remained composed. He had already gained much and did not desire more.

"Actually, it’s unnecessary," Lilith interjected. "Though I haven’t reached your level, I understand that cultivation relies on wealth, companions, methods, and location.

Traveling and cultivating may indeed broaden your experiences and insights, potentially leading to a breakthrough. But here in the city, enjoying its resources and using them to build a solid foundation, you could still achieve a natural breakthrough through accumulated efforts."

She waved her hand, showing she wasn’t simply being polite. Lilith understood that to Aizen, power was merely a tool for gaining strength.

They were the same type of people, but her reasoning was not without merit. Cultivation depended on wealth, companions, methods, and location. Having the resources and the advantage of the city might indeed lead to success through accumulation.

"It’s too difficult, far too difficult. The Innate Magus Stage is unlike any other... It’s a step out of mortality. To cross this threshold requires an unyielding, fearless spirit. That cannot be cultivated through seclusion alone. I must venture out."

Aizen stood with his hands behind his back, sighing.

"If that’s the case, I won’t try to persuade you. Your strength has grown so much that you’re even ranked on the Human Ranking. It seems your martial foundation is quite deep. How about giving me some pointers on my swordsmanship?"

As Lilith spoke, her hand was already on her sword hilt.

With a sharp clang, the sword left its sheath, and its shimmering flourishes danced like silver blossoms.

Lilith’s movements were graceful and lithe, like a celestial maiden dancing from the heavens. Yet, in her hand, the sword was decisive and deadly, its energy fierce and murderous.

"This isn’t the Decapitation Sword Technique, but it carries some of its essence. The sword flows with agility, and its intent is refined. It seems you’ve mastered the Decapitation Sword Technique to the level of perfection and integrated it with another sword style."

Aizen’s eyes shone brightly as he immediately discerned the extraordinary nature of her technique.

"Take this sword!"

Lilith’s figure flickered, darting forward like a bird weaving through a forest. In an instant, her sword was before Aizen.

Her footwork mirrored the essence of a bird soaring in the sky, twisting and turning with an elegant swiftness. It was clearly the essence of the Sky Lark Steps technique.

"Buzz! Buzz!"

The sword edge quivered, filling the pavilion with frost. The autumn wind was sliced apart as her sword targeted Aizen’s vital acupoints and key meridians.

With just this one strike, both Vincent and Christopher’s expressions changed drastically.

This sword strike condensed its sword light, focused yet not dispersed, with an incredibly strong penetrative power.

Even as mere spectators, Vincent and Christopher felt an intense sense of threat, as if a chilling sensation swept through their entire bodies.

This Lilith—wasn’t she only recently promoted to an outer disciple? How could she already possess such strength?

Even Aizen couldn’t help but feel a flicker of surprise.

However, his current strength far exceeded Lilth’s.

If in the past he had to look up to Elder Mustang, who was at the half-step innate realm, now Aizen himself was also at the half-step Innate Magus Stage. His combat power was no longer comparable to that old fellow Elder Mustang.

Watching Lilith’s sword technique, he took an appreciative and instructive attitude.

"Swish!"

He suddenly pointed out with one finger.

The finger moved like a spear.

His hand bore no protective gear.

He had long discarded the Black Fiend Gloves.

This finger struck like lightning, yet as it pointed out, it danced like a spear, swaying left and right.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!"

A series of metallic clashes echoed. Lilith’s sword, swift as a torrential rain, was easily broken by Aizen. However, in that instant, she followed the momentum of his finger strength, shifting her sword’s trajectory into an upward slash.

A silver arc flashed.

This strike was like a silver whip, impossibly fast and seemingly indefensible.

It was sharp and lightning-quick.

It was the killing move of the Decapitation Sword Technique—the Neck Coiling Style.

Aizen smiled faintly, his eyes gleaming sharply. His palm suddenly struck out, imbued with internal energy that carried a twisting, coiling force. It resembled an old ox chewing grass, with its tongue wrapping around sharp blades and pulling them into its mouth for grinding.

Lilith’s long sword was struck squarely by Aizen’s palm. His internal energy exploded, causing the blade to tremble. With three fingers, he pressed and twisted it, producing a screeching sound as the sword twisted like a braid.

"What?!"

Lilith’s expression was one of shock. She felt her arm go numb, as if struck by an electric current, and was overwhelmed by a powerful twisting force. Her long sword slipped directly out of her grip.

"Ha ha!"

The long sword was firmly clasped in Aizen’s three fingers.

His fingertips emitted a crimson glow—this was none other than the power of the Heart-Ripping Claw.

For Aizen, who had achieved a minor accomplishment in the Demonic Body technique and stepped into the half-step innate realm, using the Black Fiend Gloves was now unnecessary.

The Black Fiend Gloves were merely a sixth-grade weapon. While they provided some protection and slightly enhanced his defensive capabilities, his mastery over fist, palm, finger, and claw techniques was so profound that he no longer needed any protective gear.

Even in battle, his hands would not easily be injured, and his attacks could shift seamlessly and unpredictably, leaving his opponents unable to counter.

"I didn’t expect your strength to have grown so much," Lilith remarked, rotating her right arm and massaging a few acupoints to restore the numbness in her arm’s meridians. She looked at Aizen with a tinge of amazement.

"I had just attacked with all my strength, holding nothing back, yet you disarmed me in just two moves... It seems I still have a long way to go before I can match the powerhouses on the Human Ranking."

"Don’t be discouraged," Aizen said calmly. "With your talent, as long as you train diligently, you’ll soon rank on the Human Ranking... But no matter how strong one is in the acquired realm, they remain mortal. Without transcending mortality, one cannot achieve sanctity. The Innate Magus Stage is merely the beginning of a new journey."

Aizen handed the sword back to Lilith and walked toward the lake beyond the pavilion.

"You may all leave now. I need to cultivate in seclusion for a while."

He stepped onto the water. The water reached no higher than his knees as he slowly walked away.
