Chapter 21: Beauty and Wine

Before exchanging his Wisdom points for Wisdom chests, Aizen first used them to learn the basic blade technique. This learning process was a shortcut, achieved using Wisdom points directly. Otherwise, practicing the basic foundations of blade techniques would have taken months of rigorous hard work, and even then, it would take a year before seeing significant improvement.

After spending another 100 Wisdom points, in addition to the points he had already used on basic movement and finger techniques, Aizen was left with only 1,200 Wisdom points. He suspected that Wisdom points would be of great use later, particularly when learning higher-level techniques. The more powerful the Sorcery arts, the more points would likely be needed to learn them quickly. Therefore, it was crucial to start saving Wisdom points now.

However, Aizen also had an immediate need for Wisdom chests. After offending Leo and killing Gormak, he anticipated that others would come looking for trouble soon. He needed life-saving measures and resources to protect himself before trouble arrived. Thus, he had to prioritize the Wisdom chests, even if it meant putting off saving points for the future.

Opening the chests was easy enough, but luck was not on his side. The two intermediate Wisdom chests he opened did not contain any life-saving items he was hoping for. Not even a high-level technique or a sharp concealed weapon like the Life-Sealing Needle showed up. Instead, he had used up his fortune, and the fickle goddess of luck had abandoned him, favoring someone else instead.

Aizen looked at the two items he received, feeling a sense of disappointment.

Human Skin Mask (Middle-Aged): Grade 1 medium-level rare item.

Description: Wearing this mask will change your facial appearance, but not your body shape. Anyone perceptive enough will see through the disguise immediately.Phoenix Rouge (Women’s Cosmetic Item): Ungraded. Description: This is a top-tier rouge that beauty-loving women covet, and it’s incredibly rare, something money can’t easily buy.

His reward for using 1,000 Wisdom points amounted to a human skin mask and a box of rouge meant for women. His luck was truly miserable. Yet, he reminded himself that gambling always carried risks. If one dared to gamble, one had to be prepared for the worst.

Taking a deep breath,Aizen tucked the human skin mask into his robe. He then considered the Phoenix Rouge, recalling that Lilith Blackthorn probably wouldn’t have any use for it. Nevertheless, the rouge was a rare, top-tier product that beauty-loving women highly valued, and it could be just as valuable as a high-level Magus arts technique if used wisely. It wasn’t entirely useless.

Now, with only 200 Wisdom points left, Aizen decided not to exchange them for basic chests, as the cost-benefit ratio wasn’t worth it. He took out a bottle of Vitality Pills from his robe, sat down cross-legged, and consumed one pill to aid in his cultivation of the Star-Absorbing Technique.

The Star-Absorbing Technique wasn’t a simple meditative practice that could make him strong. It was a unique sorcery art derived from the Northern Darkness Divine Skill. To enhance its power and level, he needed to absorb internal energy from opponents during combat, converting their energy into his own. The absorbed energy would flow into his dantian and then spread throughout his meridians, strengthening his bones and accelerating his energy flow, making his attacks more potent.

Mastery of the Star-Absorbing Technique also required the ability to refine and purify the absorbed energy thoroughly. If he absorbed too much without proper refinement, the energy would backfire and endanger his life. Aizen knew how to increase the technique’s power quickly, but he couldn’t afford to expose his abilities yet. Among the black-clothed disciples, few practiced internal energy cultivation, and even if they did, their energy reserves were insignificant. Absorbing their energy would yield little benefit, so he decided to train quietly until he entered the outer sect, where stronger opponents would be more available.

The effect of the second-grade Vitality Pill was impressive, but his training was cut short when he heard a soft sound coming from above the chamber. Aizen immediately knew he had a visitor.

He calmly ended his session, his eyes glinting with sharp awareness. Rising from his meditative posture, he exited the secret chamber. A stool that had been placed to hold down the trapdoor had fallen over, one of its legs tied to a string that connected to the door latch. When the door was opened, the stool would be pulled down, creating noise. This setup worked only if the intruder wasn’t stealthy or had no ill intentions.

If someone with quick reflexes or malicious intent tried to break in, they would cut the string silently, leaving the stool in place, and Aizen would not hear a sound until it was too late. Still, Aizen had prepared for every possible scenario. Even while meditating, he remained alert enough to sense intruders and respond immediately.

Standing at the door was a woman dressed in a striking red outfit. Her lips were painted red, but her face was unnaturally pale. Yet she was undeniably beautiful, with an elegant smile on her lips that looked like the sunset-tinted clouds on the horizon.

"Are you the Viper Blade ?" she asked. Her voice was smooth and magnetic, with a slow, melodious cadence that struck a chord in the listener’s heart.

Aizen glanced at the Blade at his waist, then shook his head, neither denying nor confirming her question. His response suggested uncertainty rather than refusal.

The beautiful woman stepped gracefully into the room. Her bare feet were like flawless jade, with toes that were as exquisite as precious pearls, making one feel tempted to hold and admire them. She was out of place in this dirty, chaotic room, which reeked of death and decay. Yet, she had come anyway. Her smile, enchanting as sunset clouds, never wavered, even when Aizen did not answer her directly.

"You killed Gormak. I’m here to kill you," she said, her tone light, as if announcing something delightful.

Aizen noticed that she was holding a wine jug in her left hand, while her right hand was empty. Was she planning to kill him with a wine jug?

In the courtyard, Lilith had silently appeared, her bright eyes fixed on the red-clothed woman standing in Aizen’s room. Aizen also saw Lilith Blackthorn. Perhaps Lilith Blackthorn knew how dangerous this woman was, but he only knew her name: Ada , also known as the Red Lady. Her reputation was infamous, and it was said that she killed without using weapons, relying instead on water—or in her case, wine. This peculiar sorcery art was unique to her, and Aizen suspected that a single wine jug could indeed be deadly.

Still, he would not stand by and let her take his life without a fight.

"How about you take Gormak’s place and become mine?" Ada proposed. She had moved to within five paces of him, but as his Blade lifted slightly, she stopped. Her tone was teasing, but her steps halted, as if she sensed the danger.

Aizen could not betray his faction and join the Red Lady. By killing Gormak, he had already prepared himself for retaliation, even from someone as fearsome as the Red Lady. His preparations included strategies for dealing with her.

The air in the room suddenly filled with a unique fragrance, a blend of alcohol and a woman’s perfume. The scent was intoxicating, designed to ensnare men. Wine could make a man drunk, and a beautiful woman could make him fall even deeper into a spell of enchantment.
