Chapter 33: Forest Murderous Intent

The news of Leo’s death quickly spread throughout the entire Black-Clothed Disciples’ area in the Western Courtyard.

This was no small matter. Leo was the top Black-Clothed Disciple of this generation in the Western Courtyard and the Left Clan’s appointed representative in Demon Mountain City.

How did he die, and who killed him? Many were curious.

Soon, rumors began to leak. It was said that before Leo’s death, he had taken his three top subordinates out of the city to hunt down Aizen. After that, they never returned.

As everyone was still in shock, more news broke: it was Valentino who killed Leo, and the incident had already reached the ears of the Left Clan’s high-ranking officials. Valentino was to face severe punishment.

Many people began to think deeply, and the more they thought, the colder they felt.

It seemed highly likely that Leo had fallen into a trap set by Valentino, with Aizen as the bait. After luring Leo out of the city, he fell into an ambush arranged by Valentino and his men, where he was directly killed.

With Valentino’s Sorcery skills, combined with his two trusted lieutenants and the support of Aizen, the Viper Blade, as well as Lilith, the Flying Cloud Hand, Leo’s death didn’t seem unfair. Perhaps Leo had never expected Valentino to have the audacity to kill him.

Of course, all of this was merely speculation from outsiders. The true events were only known to Valentino and those directly involved.

Valentino had battled with Leo for years, but now that he had finally taken Leo’s place and assumed control of the Left Clan’s territory in Demon Mountain City, he no longer had the same burning ambition and fervor.

His ambitions and courage had been crushed by Aizen, and his once-passionate blood had cooled in Aizen’s terrifying shadow. He realized he could only live under Aizen’s oppressive presence, filled with anxiety, fear, and desperation.

After helping Valentino take over Leo’s territory, the officials sent by the Left Clan left. Some of them had investigated the circumstances of Leo’s death.

The entire situation had too many suspicious points and happened too suddenly.

However, since Leo died outside Demon Mountain City, where the Clan’s protective formation did not reach, the case was closed once Valentino admitted responsibility. The blame for Leo’s death was placed on him.

The high-ranking official who had favored Leo was indeed furious and wanted to kill Valentino in retaliation. However, under the persuasion and pressure from other officials, the situation eventually developed in the way Aizen had anticipated, following the desired course.

By now, Aizen had left everyone’s sight and had taken on a mission from the Hall of Glory before plunging into the dense Ten-Thousand Mountain Range surrounding the Western Courtyard of the Devil Clan.

The system mission gave him only one month, and while there were shortcuts to becoming an Outer clan disciple, they were difficult. Aizen needed to make some preparations.

The Devil Clan was divided into four courtyards: East, South, West, and North.

These four courtyards were positioned at the four cardinal directions of the Ten-Thousand Mountain Range, forming a defensive formation and sitting atop the spiritual dragon veins of the mountain range.

The courtyards were fiercely competitive with one another but remained united against external threats. Historically, most sect leaders of the Heavenly Demon Clan had come from the Eastern Courtyard.

The Eastern Courtyard was the true lineage of the Heavenly Demon Clan, while the other three were later offshoots. Thus, the Eastern Courtyard held the most power, with the other three courtyards being relatively weaker.

The Eastern Courtyard was located on Demon Sea Peak in the Ten-Thousand Mountain Range. Unlike the other courtyards, it did not have a courtyard master; only the Clan master presided over it.

The current Clan Leader, Ligt Vermont, was an unparalleled expert, rivaled only by the three great Leaders in the world. Under his leadership, the Heavenly Demon Clan had entered an era of unprecedented prosperity.

Aizen now traveled alone with his sword, heading toward the Eastern Courtyard.

He had taken on three missions from the Hall of Glory in one go: "Harvest Heart-Piercing Poison Grass," "Collect the gallbladder of an Eastern Mountain Tiger," and "Find a certain amount of Red Cloud Stone deep in the mountains."

The first two tasks required him to approach the vicinity of the Eastern Courtyard to complete. Heart-Piercing Poison Grass grew abundantly in the Ten-Thousand Mountain Range but was concentrated near the Eastern Courtyard. As for the Eastern Mountain Tiger, its name suggested where it frequently roamed.

Only the Red Cloud Stone had no specific region but was difficult to find. The stone was actually formed from the droppings of a rare bird called the Red Cloud Sparrow, which had high medicinal value.

The Red Cloud Sparrow was an unusual bird, scarce and elusive. It often chose a spot to drop its waste in large quantities, which then hardened into Red Cloud Stone. Though a rare specialty of the Ten-Thousand Mountain Range, it was not easy to come by. Aizen took on the mission hoping to get lucky.

After traveling for a while, he came across a small forest stream. The water was clear, with tiny aquatic creatures and small fish visible within.

Suddenly, Aizen heard faint sounds.

He had been vigilant throughout his journey, knowing that the mountains were full of dangers from both beasts and humans. He continuously infused his internal energy into his ears to catch any subtle movements.

The sound he heard was the brittle snap of a decaying tree branch, followed by the chirping of insects. It was almost imperceptible, yet Aizen immediately grew alert. Still, he didn’t show any sign of noticing or slow his steps, maintaining his casual pace as if unaware.

As he approached the stream, his ears twitched, but there were no unusual sounds—just the gentle murmuring of the water. The forest was eerily quiet, without even the sound of insects, which was, in itself, a sign of danger.

Aizen slowed his pace, recalling where the sound had come from. At the moment he did, a crisp "click" echoed in the air.

The noise made Aizen’s hair stand on end, like a cat bristling when threatened. It was the sound of a crossbow trigger being pulled.

Without a moment’s thought, Aizen leapt to the right, his body seeming to float as he dodged.

An arrow whizzed past where he had just stood, embedding itself in the ground with only the feathered end visible, still quivering slightly.

A cunning ambush and a decisive shot.

Before Aizen could even catch his breath, multiple sharp "twang" sounds followed. The piercing whistle of arrows cutting through the air came at him with lethal intent.

Aizen’s eyes narrowed, and as his heart grew cold, his killing intent surged. A flash of cold light swept from his waist like a lightning bolt slicing through the darkness.

A series of metallic "clang" sounds erupted as his longsword deflected four arrows. The force of the impact left his wrist numb.

The forest came alive with rustling as five assailants emerged from different directions, closing in on Aizen with cold, murderous eyes.

Each of them wielded gleaming, deadly weapons, slashing through the air as they attacked with merciless precision.
