Treasure Hunting System: The Ocean Conquerer-Chapter 681 - 310: Inconsistency
A gray-black, ominous aura was spreading towards the verdant green swamp, attempting to corrupt and transform the area.
Within the transport convoy heading towards the Muddy Land, the bearded, middle-aged leader rode a peculiar mount, his gaze fixed on that region. His brows were tightly furrowed, as if deep in thought.
In the water, Jason, standing on crystal platforms beneath his feet, approached the leader, observing his grave expression.
He asked, "Uncle Madru, you don't look too good either. Is this journey unsafe?"
They had been following this advancing team, traveling in one direction for two days and nights. Jason had already become acquainted with most of the people in the team.
"Jason." Madru turned his head. Seeing it was Jason, he smiled.
Then he sighed. "Indeed. Those damned creatures from the Land of Profanity seem particularly agitated this time."
To the indigenous people of the Land of Spirits, the Life and Death Boundary was known as the Land of Profanity.
"Previously, they wouldn't be in such a rush. I hope we don't encounter their attacks halfway; that would be troublesome."
Hearing this, Jason curiously asked, "Have you experienced this many times? How long have these attacks from the Life and Death Boundary been going on?"
The war between the Life and Death Boundary and the Land of Spirits probably hasn't lasted very long, Jason mused. According to the information Simon obtained from the Great Library, there were only a few related records, and those were from recent years. This indicates it began recently, not some tradition from ancient times.
"That's right," Madru said. "There have been about a dozen attacks from the Land of Profanity in the past thirty years, almost one every two or three years. Earlier, when I was little, there weren't any such attacks. Everyone coexisted relatively peacefully, and those creatures seldom ventured into our territory."
Jason nodded; this aligned with what he knew.
"There's someone ahead, dressed similarly to you. Do you recognize them?" Simon, airborne on a platform specially designed for his flight, flew over and asked.
"Someone? Could you describe them in detail?" Madru asked.
Simon nodded. "They're dressed like you and also seem to be hauling something."
When Madru heard this, he nodded, relieved. "They should be the team from the Muddy Land. They've come to deliver supplies to the village."
This puzzled Jason and Simon. Their group was delivering supplies to the Muddy Land, while the other team was delivering supplies to the village. However, their confusion was brief, and they didn't ask further, as the other team had already appeared in the distance.
The two teams continued towards each other and soon met.
The opposing leader and his accompanying soldiers were superior in strength, weaponry, and armor compared to the militia from Madru's village, though their style of dress was very similar. The leader's strength was around the Third Stage.
He eyed Alka's group cautiously, asked a few brief questions, and then merely nodded at them.
Afterward, the two teams didn't linger, crossing paths and leaving in the direction the other had come from.
Alka briefly observed that most of the goods transported by this team were round, unknown items. They even handed a bag to Madru.
Madru came over, opened the bag, and distributed the white, spherical objects inside to Alka and the others, one by one.
"What are these?" Chadite asked, looking at the white, spherical object in his hand, tapping and pinching it; it looked and felt somewhat like a fruit.
Madru took the one in his hand and bit into it directly. Juice splattered out, and a somewhat sweet and fragrant scent filled the air.
"Flower Fruit, a gift from the Flower Fairy."
So, the natives here call 'Brilliant Fragrance' the Flower Fairy? Alka wondered.
Following Madru's example, he took a bite of the fruit in his hand. Juice spurted out. The flavor wasn't overly sweet but was perfectly balanced. With each bite, he could clearly feel abundant liquid flowing into his mouth, an excellent thirst quencher. The juice also had a very faint salty taste.
Overall, it could definitely be described as delicious.
"Not bad, right? It's a delicacy that can only be grown in the Muddy Land. The village usually exchanges fish for it."
Madro said this and then returned to the head of the team, leading them onward.
Everyone bit into their fruit and chatted for a moment. They discovered that each person's fruit tasted different. Each cut off a piece and handed it to Juanlu.
This small interlude didn't slow their pace.
...
"Finally, almost there. Phew." Madro, at the head of the column, couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief; they were less than a few hours' journey from the Muddy Land.
To their side, they could see the gray-black aura had intensified. A faint scent of danger now hung in the air, along with that strange smell. He had smelled this same peculiar odor before, during the naval battles with the enemy's Ghost Ship. It was a faint, metallic odor, somewhat like rust, yet not quite like blood.
The day's journey had left Madro unusually tense, afraid they wouldn't reach the Muddy Land before encountering an enemy attack.
