Chapter 272: Final Act I: The revival of history

Everyone inside the guardhouse where Deimos was being treated fled the room when Sally regained her consciousness. At first, some of them tried to sedate her, but to no avail.

So Deimos, with his remaining willpower, tried to subdue a wolf, who seemed to enter a feral state. However, he quickly realized this wasn’t just as simple as going feral.

Something darker and dreadful was at play.

He commanded everyone to leave the guardhouse, and now, everyone was outside, staring at the door they locked. Everyone could hear Sally’s loud, painful screams.

"Father..." Teresa walked closer to Deimos as fear and worry took over her face.

Deimos forced a smile as he patted her head mildly. His mouth opened and closed, but words were stuck in his throat. So in the end, he couldn’t even speak a word of white lies to soothe his daughter’s worries.

"Auntie, big sister Sally will be alright." To his surprise, Toby held Teresa’s hand and squeezed it. Both Teresa and Deimos gazed down at the young Tarsa, only to see his innocent smile.

"She said she is the strongest. She is probably healing..." he knew he was lying, but he believed in Sally. He spent a fair amount of time in the palace to get close to Hugo’s siblings.

The person Toby was closest to was obviously Tito and Cora, but her relationship with Sally wasn’t that bad. In fact, they would sometimes spend an afternoon tea together because Sally was having fun gloating while Toby believed every nonsense she was spewing.

"Father... Reese."

Suddenly, from their side, they heard the muffled voice of Priscilla. When they turned their attention to her, Priscilla had her head hung low with her shoulder trembling. She held herself as if she was cold when her body was on fire.

"Priscilla, are you..." Teresa stopped when Deimos suddenly placed his hand on her shoulder. Looking back at her father, her brows knitted together. "Father?"

"Teresa," he muttered, and then louder to the others. "Everyone! Stand back!"

Before Teresa could understand his father’s sudden shift in attitude, someone already grabbed her arms and dragged her away with Toby.

"Father!" she yelled, staring at Deimos, who stood in the same spot. "Wait! What’s going on?! Priscilla --"

Teresa nearly choked when she saw Priscilla descend to her knees and then followed by her screaming. The latter was tossing and pounding herself on the ground, just like what happened to Sally and to Daniel.

"What..." tears shone in her eyes, unable to close her mouth. All she could do was get dragged away with her eyes still on her father and sister.

First Sally, and then Tomas.

When Teresa arrived at the gates and guardhouse, her heart broke a thousand more times upon seeing the state of her father. If not for the fact that Deimos was alive and reassured her losing a limb was not a problem, she was still weeping until now.

But now... even Priscilla, the youngest princess, was acting strange. She couldn’t understand it.

Actually, she didn’t see this coming. Everyone was aware of the inevitable war, but not tonight. Up until she had dinner, everything was normal, just like any other night.

Who would have thought? She wondered, hearing the remaining pieces of her heart fall apart. That tonight would be a night that would etch in everyone’s mind forever.

"Father!!" she roared, trying to break free from the warrior dragging her to a distance. She succeeded, but before she could rush to help her sister and father from what she thought was going to happen, the door from the guardhouse flew open with a bang.

Her breath hitched as silence instantly enveloped the entire area. Teresa’s eyes shook, staring at the smoke coming from inside. When a figure turned up from the thick fog, everyone’s brows furrowed.

"A woman." — that was what came in everyone’s head.

It was not a young woman that had a size of an eight-year-old. The figure that was walking out was a grown woman. Everyone’s eyes went round, only to snap them when someone let out a loud howl.

When their attention veered to the source of the howl, all they saw was a female wolf morphing to its completion. Before they could even figure out what happened to Priscilla, she had already bared her teeth towards Deimos.

BAM!

Deimos’ hand paused mid-air in an attempt to stop his daughter from attacking him. But alas, before Priscilla could even get too close to him, a foot landed on the wolf’s body, causing her to fly away and roll on the ground.

"Ugh... Papa, my head hurts." He froze when he heard a woman’s voice calling him sweetly whilst complaining. He twisted his neck as if it was rusting. Gaze landing on a mature woman who looked like the mature version of his daughter, Sally.

"Sally...?" he called, watching her brows elevate. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Papa, my head hurts." She frowned and complained once again, walking closer to him so he would pamper her like usual. She was rubbing her head gently.

"Someone bullied me earlier."

"Sally." Her frown grew worse when Deimos called her name once again with the same disbelief tone.

"Papa, why are you looking at me as if you’re looking at a ghost?"

"Sally!?"

The space between her brows wrinkled upon hearing Teresa’s voice from a distance. She turned her head in her sister’s direction, tilting it in confusion. From a distance, everyone was standing over there while looking at her in disbelief.

"What the hell is wrong with her?" she muttered and raised both her brows when she felt something drape over her shoulder. Peeling her eyes away from the crowd to her father, Sally blinked countless times.

"Cover your body first."

"Oh." Sally clipped the coat in front of her and gazed down. For a moment, her eyes kept blinking as the ground seemed a bit distant. Only then did she notice her long fingers that were clipping the coat in front of her.

"..."

It took her a minute before her eyes went round as her jaw fell open. When she raised her head at Deimos, the latter let out a sigh of relief.

"It seemed you were fine, after all." He heaved another sigh of relief as he stroked her head.

"Father, how did I...? Wait. Am I dreaming?" she pinched her cheeks, knowing her dreams were always about having a normal height that matched her age. When she winced at the pain, Sally gasped once again.

Deimos was still standing next to her, and the people were still in the distance.

What the hell was going on?
